@namffuakable well, as a personal note I believe all are American and the need for hyphenated catagories are no longer anything but localism or antiquated terminology within the American lexicon but ethnically an Hawaiian, Polynesian, is just that an ethnicity whereas "nevadan" is not an ethnic group except for the fact that you could supposedly call all Americans in Nevada, native Americans...most likely an interesting discussion for others.

@namffuakable the original definition of "Hawaiian" was any legal citizen to the Hawaiian islands regardless of ethnicity. After American seizure of the islands, the U.S. redefined the word to mean anyone of aboriginal Polynesian descent. Originally the word "kanaka maoli" was used to describe those Polynesians, just like the Maori of New Zealand and the Ma'ohi of Tahiti. People even today still refer to themselves as kanaka maoli, or just kanaka, or even just maoli.

I love this... mainly because I live here in Hawaii, and got to see those places regularly. The first and last scene are of Hulopo'e Beach on Lana'i... a fantastic beach, a beautiful tidepool excursion, and a regular hangout for spinner dolphins... also where I often have to go to work :)
