Haha i love my 97 GT. I have a huge ass sub in the back and she pounds. Car is pretty quick to, i can get her up to 110 mph like nothing (mind you, then the governor kicks in). has a lot of clicks on it, but it still runs great. really cheap to fix to, haha.
my 01 sunfire gt ive already soaked about 3 or 4 grand into since maybe the start of April. thats not car repairs, thats just "out with the old, in with the new". keepin that car runnin great cuz Sunfires are a real good car and also very cheap to fix. i'd encourage it as a car to start out in. FLOWER POWER all the way.
i have found with a full system the car is sound proof. As soon as you close the door no bass leaves the trunk or anywhere if the windows are up. pretty amazing! only car ive ever seen that does that!!

I have an 02 sunfire and its pretty quick, not the greatest but after i get turbo it'll be nice.. I wish i had got the gt like yours , too bad its auto.
The 2.4 produces a good solid 8 second 0-60, which is not 'fast', but come on now, it is an economy car. They sell the supercharger kit for less than $1600 which upsets me as I want one for my Ecotec 2.2 but they want near $2600 for it. Not fair... Anyways, this 2.4 with max bolt-ons, cams and a tune with HP Tuners, this car can hit 60 in 6.3 seconds which is pretty good.

and what are you gonna do up? a civic? civic is averaging around what? 100hp? The sunfire gt is averaging around 150hp stock, the 2.2 around 120hp stock. Even the 2.2L in 5 speed will throw you back in your seat and take out the civics with rims and a fart pipe. So think twice before you diss the sunfire, 'cause apparently you know little about them.
ps: why the auto dude? the 5 speed picks up a lot quicker AND gets better gas mileage.

oh ya, even the 2.2L in them in 5 speed can own anything, and the automatics are also decently quick. I have a 2002 Cavalier with the 2200sfi, 5 speed. It'll take on nearly any car around here, every car at my school last year except for the integra with nearly 300hp and NOS. But people, it takes more than just a good car to race, it takes skill if it's in a 5 speed. and it takes balls when on the right roads.

This year there's an mr2 and i had that on the highway until i hit 170km/h and my governor kicked in... i've never had it on a strip or any sort of closed track for that matter. srt-4... hm, i know that's a dodge, can't remember the name of that car, pretty much the new version of the neon... i think? Very powerful car
Nice car, don't let them bother you. I just bought my 5th '96 Sunfire GT and am modding it out for show. Automatic IS the way to go. Add a B&M shift kit and the T40 (most reliable automatic made), with some simple bolt-ons, can outrun Cobalt SS Supercharged's. I run in the 9.8 range in the 8th and high 14 in the 1/4. Plenty fast for a reliable car that gets 30 MPG combined driving and is STRONG after 150K miles! It took Porsche 50 years to figure out to make their car's rears look like Sunfire!

Seriously, from an ex-GM owner, DON'T PUT MONEY ON THEM!!! I had a '97 Cavalier Z24 (same thing as you basically) and they represent well the GM letters ---> General Mistake. I bought my self a 2000 Integra GS-R and I love it. Trust me, you will have WAY more fun driving a Honda/Acura and they are much easier de mod (B-Series engines are so versatile)... I'm not crapping on your car; I'm just telling you my awful experience. Think twice, I wasted more than 5k $ on that peace of crap.

First of all, it sounds rice. get yourself a hold of high comp. pistons, im sure you can find cheap ones on ebay. Your probably wan to clean the mess up in that engine, some hard cleaning could get you 15-20 whp more considering the fact that its a 10 year old car and that it was probably never opened.
Nice car. Definitely in far better shape than my 1996. It would look far nicer with the Cavalier 5 spoke Z24 rims though, that's what mine has and it really makes it look better. On yours it would have an even better effect since it's in such good shape.

That time is not including the supercharger.
With the supercharger, it can drop down to 5 seconds 0-60, depending on the pulley used and the tuning. Get the supercharger!!!

and what are you gonna do up? a civic? civic is averaging around what? 100hp? The sunfire gt is averaging around 150hp stock, the 2.2 around 120hp stock. Even the 2.2L in 5 speed will throw you back in your seat and take out the civics with rims and a fart pipe. So think twice before you diss the sunfire, 'cause apparently you know little about them.
ps: why the auto dude? the 5 speed picks up a lot quicker AND gets better gas mileage.

ah, of course, the ecotec. How could i have forgotten. They started putting them in the z-series cavalier and the le cavalier in... 2002 wasn't it? I don't know what sunfires it came in, i've ended up getting a little more into the cavaliers since i'm looking at one right now.

oh ya, even the 2.2L in them in 5 speed can own anything, and the automatics are also decently quick. I have a 2002 Cavalier with the 2200sfi, 5 speed. It'll take on nearly any car around here, every car at my school last year except for the integra with nearly 300hp and NOS. But people, it takes more than just a good car to race, it takes skill if it's in a 5 speed. and it takes balls when on the right roads.

where you live i'll race ya!!! my srt... i've raced people with turbo sunfires and cavis and they were pretty close. when i was stock turbo. best on stock clutch, turbo, and street tires was an 8.7 at 86 mph in the 1/8 whats yours?

i have an '02 stock cavi with the 2200sfi at about 120hp. Whoever said the people at my school (aside from buddy with the integra) are actually smart enough to buy a good car. This year there's an mr2 and i had that on the highway until i hit 170km/h and my governor kicked in... i've never had it on a strip or any sort of closed track for that matter. srt-4... hm, i know that's a dodge, can't remember the name of that car, pretty much the new version of the neon... i think? Very powerful car

Nice car, don't let them bother you. I just bought my 5th '96 Sunfire GT and am modding it out for show. Automatic IS the way to go. Add a B&M shift kit and the T40 (most reliable automatic made), with some simple bolt-ons, can outrun Cobalt SS Supercharged's. I run in the 9.8 range in the 8th and high 14 in the 1/4. Plenty fast for a reliable car that gets 30 MPG combined driving and is STRONG after 150K miles! It took Porsche 50 years to figure out to make their car's rears look like Sunfire!

Seriously, from an ex-GM owner, DON'T PUT MONEY ON THEM!!! I had a '97 Cavalier Z24 (same thing as you basically) and they represent well the GM letters ---> General Mistake. I bought my self a 2000 Integra GS-R and I love it. Trust me, you will have WAY more fun driving a Honda/Acura and they are much easier de mod (B-Series engines are so versatile)... I'm not crapping on your car; I'm just telling you my awful experience. Think twice, I wasted more than 5k $ on that peace of crap.

First of all, it sounds rice. get yourself a hold of high comp. pistons, im sure you can find cheap ones on ebay. Your probably wan to clean the mess up in that engine, some hard cleaning could get you 15-20 whp more considering the fact that its a 10 year old car and that it was probably never opened.

Nice car. Definitely in far better shape than my 1996. It would look far nicer with the Cavalier 5 spoke Z24 rims though, that's what mine has and it really makes it look better. On yours it would have an even better effect since it's in such good shape.
