  • Presta vales are crap, as are those stupid mountain bike pumps without a flexible hose. It wasn't broke twenty years ago. Who were the cretins who thought we needed something new (and useless). I think we should be told who invented this heap of Sh*te. I have a physics degree, and I've spent a year trying to pump my bike tyres up.

  • Presta valves are handy, but some pumps/adapters are fiddly to remove after inflating the tyre and can deflate the thing, which is about the second most frustrating thing in the world.

  • do i always have to pump out my tire (presta valve) when i want to pump my bike? pls hlp

  • Oh man.. I have a presta valve..

  • there is no any spring in presta valve

  • I Love the Presta Valve, Sadly i have a Schrader on my BMX and when you get flats your valve sometimes goes into the rim (if you haven't take it off)

  • i HATE presta valves :@ with a passion!!!!

  • You should give the presta valve a quick push down after unscrewing it to loosen it a bit before attaching the pump

  • @TimpBizkit

    I agree. This is important.

  • Is one better than the other?

  • Thanks. It seems that bicycle pumps have changed in the 30 years since I last had a bke. Tyres now succesfully inflated.

  • do you have actual sample for woods/dunlop valve? tia

  • everyone i know just uses slime tire sealant and we don't ever have to worry about fixing flats. Slime has been the best sealant i have ever tried and the satisfaction guarantee on all of their products proves it. seriously the peace of mind is great and well worth the 5-10 bucks! for my mountain bike to my road bike, i have even used the slime kits for my car tires and it has saved me twice now! i am a loyal customer and just spreading the word because it is such a great product!

  • Pimp your ride

  • Thank you! I did not know the nut was supposed to go on the outside of the bike rim! This is a big relief! How can one check the tire pressure with a presta valve?

  • This helped me a lot. Thanks

    :D

  • it explains how to inflat a dunlop vavle for about 3 seconds

  • This video is just good at presenting the different types of valves. However, it fails to properly show how to pump the Wood/Dunlop valve.

It is really hard to pump a Wood/Dunlop valve. I almost never managed to properly pump it. Also, the pumps are mostly hand pumps and therefore, it is very tiring to get the tyre inflated.

I just hope that the Wood/Dunlop valve be completely banned. The Car/Schrader valve is just the best. You can just go to a gas station.

  • @ssobhee

ive searched EVERYWHERE for a -how to inflate a dunlop valve- but i jus cant seem to find an answear !? is it impossible or something ?? my mountainbike uses these damn valves and i really need to inflate them...but no matter what i try, the air just never comes inside !! can you please help mee?

  • @OctoberNote THe easiest solution I found for dunlop/woods valves: new inner tubes with a different type of valve.

  • THANK U SO MUCH THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR VERY HELPFUL! IM A BIT DUMB! LOL X

  • Helpful

  • urmm can i ask what is the difference between a normal bicycle's valve and an athlete's bike valve ?

  • thanks man, really helped me, i am an extreme biking noob!

  • Great advice. All seems simple when you know how. Thanks for the help.

  • speak up!

  • Why do every standard have at least two competing standards? Why not settle on one instead of making everyone's life miserable?

Thanks for clearing up the mess.

  • I noticed you skipped the part of filling the woods or dunlop valave which is actually the difficult one. I mean who can't figure out how to fill a schader or presta valve?

  • what do you do if the pump doesnt fit onto the schrader valve? mine justs doesnt screw on because the plunger is sticking out very slightly.

  • how do i pump a schrader valve?

  • I believe the answer is around the 2 minute mark

  • cool!!!!!!!

  • I'm from Australia, but spending 6 months in Japan. When the middle came out of the Wood's valve of my new inner tube, I'd assumed I'd broken it. I didn't know there were alternatives to Schrader valves.

I turned the rubber thing around in my hand pump as suggested, and now I'm off! Thanks so much!!

  • Haven't had presta's before. Didn't realize I had to unscrew the top before inflating. Thanks!

  • you're retarded

not everyone has used a presta valve before especially people who normally have mountain bikes

  • How do I use a foot pump?

  • thanks for the help, I just got a new bike and it's been a long time. Plus I'm from the states so living here in the EU these valves are FREAKIN me. Cheers.

  • Many thanks for this info. I'd never seen a Presta until today, and although I had a pump, couldn't figure out how to work them. Embarrassing!

As per other comments - what's the point? Wood valves have been around for ages and work perfectly well. What problem are 'they' trying to solve with a Presta?

Standards make life so much easier - e.g. spanners, threads, etc. And then some dope invents something new - like Torx heads and complicates things. VHS / Betamax. BluRay / HDDV?!! Arrrrgh!!

  • we must brothers from diffrent mothers bro. my new MTB came with presta valves today and i was like WTF is this? while sitting in a garage full of tools ,with no presta capability!!! i'm still not mobile yet as i dont no where to get a airchuck to fit it

  • Had no idea what I was doing wrong with a new presta valve. Never realised the tiny nut could be screwed off!!

Thanks very much, extremely helpful :)

  • perfect video. presta valves are useless! thanks tho :)

  • I feel so useless I cant even blow up my tyres !!!! Ive been trying most of the day !!! Think I need a man !!

  • I have a Topeak mini pump and can't make it work on my presta valve eventhough the packaging says I can. Can anyone help?

  • unscsrew the head attachment and reverse (turn around) the attachment part. Then screw it back on. I had a similar pump once. You just have to change the fiddly bits in the attachment and it should work. good luck

  • thank you! it was very helpful for a rookie like me lol.

  • Presta's seem to be a pain in the ass

  • It is. Just found that out, Presta was on the only 27" tube at walmart.

  • cool valve plug

  • Cheers, I now know my valve's a presta.

  • same lol on my giant stp 2

  • i have a schrader valve i believe. i recently bought a new pump (just a simple one) and it doesn't fit! highly annoying. my bike its quite old and i just assumed the pumps would still be the same.

    this video helped! thanks.

  • great video, lifesaver for me, a new presta valve owner

  • i dont know why u have so many thumbs downs ,when everyone here agrees with you comment but are to polite to say it your way

  • Thanks very helpful. Didnt bother ask when I was a the shop.

  • thanks this was helpful

  • Thanks for the video, very informative and answered my question too.

  • wow great video, i needed help and it helped me

  • Argh. I still can't figure out how to pump up my woods valve bike tire. The valve keeps flying out or the tube won't pump up the tire as I don't have a fancy locking switch like the one in the video. How do I pump these things up?!

  • It may be that the valve is broken. I've fixed a number of woods valves by replacing the inner part (whatever it is called) of the valve.

  • A spring plunger.

  • Pretty good. Presta valves don't have springs in them, do they?
