  • Yeah, no way could I think a middle and elementary school band could play this. I'm playing this now in my highschool band, fun stuff!

  • Playing this now, it's great. We don't have any Euphoniums or Baritones, so there's a little gap, but I'm covering the parts with Tenor Sax :D

  • i'm playing this in my high school's AA concert band. It's not dumbed down at all. (i'm first chair tuba at the greenwich high school symphony band)

  • @guitarmt3095 Are you sure. (Have you talked to your band director.) If so bravo, for you are an amazing musician, playing with other amazing musicians.

  • @MegaZcollins yes, i just played my part along with this recording. all three movements, chaconne, intermezzo and march.

  • This song is soo awsome we did this for our winter concert and it was epic. Music is just so cool :)

  • Beautiful piece. Awesome bassoon parts as well. I played this last in my high school's wind ensemble. It was so much fun, and so many good memories. There should not be 2 dislikes at ALL!

  • I'm in my schools concert band and we're playing this for our next concert. Im principal trumpet... and I love the 3rd movement but Im almost happy we're not playing it..

  • I'm doing this piece, first suite, and metroplex in my next High School band concert. My director is out of his mind.

  • im playing this in band and im in eighth grade. we are only playing the first movement tho. nd @OurDearFriends ... there are easier forms of this song with less notes.. it just doesn't soon as good.

  • i remember in middle school our symphonic band played this and i was in it ^_^ best year ever. i miss the old times

  • Im a freshman in high school, which im in advanced symphonic band, and were playing this! :) This is a challenge, but I love this piece.

  • klarinet partij is lastig, rijp voor examenklasse. Klasse 3 denk ik.;

  • still a great composition from this great Master.

Really i like the clarinet-part, real great. though thinking, with te percussion.

  • our highschool's symphonic band is playing this now :) i can play the baritone/euphonium and flute parts for this, even though im not in the band. I could find the notes by ear and write them down :)

  • Nice to hear this played by a professional orchestra, for a change.

  • beautiful. the band I'm in is gonna play this at concert pretty soon. So great to play such a wonderful piece. :D

  • i have no idea how a musical wonder like this is created

  • isnt this what blue knights played this year?

  • @Gwyndion500 yeah! it was on there page. Everyone thought i was crazy when i noticed that

  • Haha we played this in my Symphonic band freshman year, and I'm first chair clarinet, so I had the beasty duet/solo in the second movement. *sigh* What a great piece!

  • my highschool band is playing this and i have the first trumpet part. It's not that tough of a piece, you just have to pay a lot of attention to detail. I think the highest note i have to play is a C above the staff.

  • @TomTom40202

my band is playing it too! haha i love it already actually. i will admit that the intermezzo is a little challenging. and the march requires quite the tonguing ability ha

  • ye'know people, if you pressed dislike, JUST CLICK THE OTHER ONE!!

  • Elementary school kids can play this... down an octave. But it would have to sound really bad, and would sound good when you played it but would lack detail and movement.

  • Me and my 80 twins actually played this one in the womb. Safe to say I learned my lesson about piccolos in an enclosed space the hard way.

  • Bass Trombone part for this is amazing.

  • @xLesPaulGibsonx O hai :)

  • @trombonegirlJH Hi there.

  • what band played this.

  • @Paola7448 yeah...i belive you....HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA YOU'RE SOOOOOOOO FUNNY!!!!!!!! LMAOOOOOOOOOO

  • all these fith graders think their sooooo cool posting lies about how awesome they wer in their concert playing this song.... YEAH RIGHT!!!!!!! IM A MMIDDLE SCHOOLER (7TH) AND EVEN WE CAN BARELY PLAY THE CHACCONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "OH, I PLAYED THIS IN OUR CONCERT YESTERDAY AND WE WERE BEAST!" OH YEAH? I DONT GIVE A FUCK!!! IT WAS PROBABLY HORRIBLE!!!!! KISS MY ASS FIFTH GRADE POSERS!!!!!!!

  • @supersiroscar Fuck yeah man.

  • @supersiroscar respect

  • I see there is only one person who dislikes this... I wonder who it is???

  • @PACKofPARTYpeople James Swearnigan cuz hes got nothing on holst

  • Im playing this piece now and im a junior in highschool, there is no way kids played it in elementary school

  • @odstfred Yeah, I don't think any elementary kids played this. If they did, it would be terrible. I was a freshman in college when our Wind Ensemble played this song.

  • nah i actually agree with fashnbug. i wanna actually hear how good they played this piece.

  • @fashnbug Uhm, calm the fuck down.

  • @kneedyslexiako

Don't listen to this asshole, fashnbug!

  • I love Holst beacuse there was a dedicated Contralto Clarinet part in this piece. WHY THE FUCK DOES NO ELSE ONE EVER WRITE A PART FOR MY INSTRUMENT?!

  • @UnholyJesus181 i know right ?!!!!!!!!!! well im playing that old hound dog rag and im so exited for it because in the beginnig only the clarinets play!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! yesssssss!!!!

  • We played this last year in Wind Ensemble, it was pretty awesome. :)

  • Great French horn part!

  • damn, the clarinet got the solo in the second movement

  • Ok so I saw that this video has one dislike. WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND DARES TO DISLIKE THIS MASTERPEICE!?!?!?!

  • @ironspeed12

    Trolls.

  • @ironspeed12 they probably misclicked it :P haha

    they should have -_-

  • my band love holst we always play something from him..... best music EVER!!! i love how he gives so much to the clarinets its magical when u pla it

  • my band love holst we always play something from him..... best music EVER!!!

  • The march is definitely my favorite part.

  • Who was the asshole who misclicked "like"

  • @technic201 **assholes**

  • @Paola7448 THATS SO NOT TRUE! Lol unless you've all been playing since you where like....2. Haha

  • My middle school band played a more condenced version of this,

I love it, this song is amazing(:

  • Comment removed

  • I love Holst's Suites. Second Suite has to be my favorite though. These are so much fun to play. :)

  • I did this in HS... back in 1999/2000 - but I was lead French Horn - this was HARD but FUN!

  • my high school Wind Ensemble played this last year, i really enjoyed it.. heh it was kinda difficult for me but in the end once i fiigured it out it was fun..

  • Someone is tone-deaf

  • Please don't start arguing again. Just ignore and let it go. This beautiful music should not be provoking this type of behavior.

  • what are with these people saying they played this in middle, elementary school?!

    BUUUUUULLLLLLLLSHIIIIIIIIIIIT

unless your all prodegies. then good for you. this is easily a grade 5-6 peice ( hence a good high school symphonic band/ college band )

  • @OurDearFriends Amen. A. Freaking. Men.

  • @OurDearFriends I agree with you on this! We had juniors and sophomores and a few freshman, including myself, play this for a concert at school and we are in the top band and still struggled with it but finally got it.

  • @OurDearFriends those kids saying that say they played this in elemetary school probably played the song that just has some of the main melodies from this piece and is dumbed down a lot. I've played both versions now so i know

  • @OurDearFriends They could still have played it, Just not in its pure form, The name was shared, but not the exact music. Also, just because it was played doesn't mean it was played WELL.

  • @OurDearFriends

there's a like I think 4(?) arrangement, it gets the job done but nothing compared to the military band arrangement

  • @OurDearFriends there are something called arrangements. but if they mean the REAL thing than thts bull shit

  • @OurDearFriends They may have played it in Middle School, but with way less notes, emotion, accuracy and such. The arrangement was probably very simple and mostly unison. I've played certain pieces in 5th grade and then again in my High School years.

  • I highly doubt Elementary schoolers are playing what is recognized as a grade 6 piece in my state.

  • @Paola7448 Holy shit, what Elementary school are you from?

  • 1st corenet trumpet ohh yeahh. Trumpet section is where its at

  • Ive played this on tuba

  • I can hear my music teacher now: On the UP BEATS!!!

  • Can't compare it to anything... one of the greatest pieces of literature ever.

  • @Paola7448 Elementary schoolers playing a grade 5 tune? Hahah I think you are lieing.

  • Fun piece; Holst is neat.

  • ... We played this for a music competition! :D Ahh 8th grade symphonies :D such a epic piece! :D

  • holy crap...im a senior and im having major freshman flaskbacks!

    ps:go trombones!!

  • Playing this in band...It's a Tuba players dream song!

    Senior baby. :)

  • Clarinet part RAGES! Clarinetsss!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I think I have this very same version of the piece. Everything sounds exactly the same.

  • played all three movements of this yesterday for the school concert (im in year 10) it's a great piece

  • we r playing this for our winter concert in one week

  • @Paola7448 if you have a video of it... i would be glad to watch it :)

  • @Paola7448 Sorry but I find that difficult to believe. This is an advanced piece that are played at high school and college levels. If you did play this, it was an easier arrangement by Sweeny...not the original.

  • Sounds like the Cleveland Winds digital recording... 6ft bass drum. AWESOME!!

  • @GT3RD I remember our band director seating the flutes right next to that thing since it was postitioned near the front of the band on the side. Then he showed us the piece we were going to learn and play. All I could think at that moment was "Oh no."

I love this band arrangement though. Memories. :)

  • my highschool is playing this, but it wont sound this good. there are only like 4 ppl in the class who are rly good(including me), and only me and this flute player are actually serious about music and are in 2 top orchestras in the state... I wish that their was a school of arts school in my area -_-

  • i'm playing this in band for ABDA. i'm pretty hyped up. :)

  • we're playing this, and it's my junior year in high school. (:

  • people say they played this in 6th or 7th grade, they were playing an easier version Arranged by Michael Sweeny because when i was in 8th grade we played the sweeny version. This is leveled 'Medium-Advanced'

  • We are playing the first movement. (Choaconne)

  • im really hoping my band plays this this year.

  • played this shit when I was in 11th grade, raged on the bone, it was awesome

  • ah... we played this this my freshman year of high school... oh i so love to play it.. first clarinet part was fun.

  • I played this in band when I was in 6th grade.

  • 30,000th viewer!!!!!

  • Best Classical Piece ever, thank god our band played this, otherwise I would've never known it existed

  • @drumraider Think about what you just said. Until you played it, you had no idea it existed.

There are plenty of other pieces out there you have never played.

Don't make such a blanket statement.

  • @BergerKing064 It's a great piece, and I'm sure drumraider was just being complimentary..no need to get hung up about it...

  • god this song has some the most epic parts EVAR! im playin bass drum to it atm, so awesome XD

  • I played this college...very fun piece to play especially since Im a trumpet player ;)

  • love this song .......played it while i was in high school...

  • i love how holst wrote euph on the origonal score,

  • i beleive we played this my freshman year... with Rolling Thunder and (i know i'ma get this title wrong) As Summer turns to Fall (it was amazing graze lol) and we got all 1s and a 1 plus... that was one of the most fulfilling and challenging things i ever over come.... i then knew how much in love with music i was :)

  • I think this is the Dennis Wick/London Wind Orchestra recording- a very fine version IMHO

  • im playing this piece for my grade 9 recital!! i play horn

  • LOVE this song. i feel that the melody is lost a little in this recording, but it's all about the director's preference i suppose.

  • I'm in 7th and we are playing it too.

  • we played this my freshman year in high shcool...back when we were a 5A school...back before we fell to shit...now going into my senior year there is no way on God's green earth our band could play this...man i wish i could relive that UIL again...good times...good times.

  • I'm in 7th grade and we're playing it. This Symphonic 1 though. But still, 7th and 8th graders shouldn't be playing this level stuff! Adult classic literature is very, very, very hard to play. We sound nothing like this! This piece is so old, it was copyrighted in 1921 and copyright was renewed in 1948! Like I said it is such an old piece, I guess they had harder music back then, though.

  • epic

  • @redskinsfan201 Well, you were being one. Any band worth it's name should have a good brass section- unless it's a brass-less group. This group was, and it sounded great. That's all I was saying.

  • my 8th grade symphonic band is playing this in symphony hall in atlanta next weekend for national level festival.

  • we played this in my high school concert band this year. its a fantastic piece. thank you.

  • i played this when i was in 7th, brings back memories of the 8th graders that were with us that year that are now freshman, miss u guys

  • so the Flute part at 4:00 and 4:30...pretty difficult to get out. lol i was actually pretty suprised our band got first with this great song.

  • i can play this on trumpet, Cornet 1 part. its difficult but i can play it easily now! fun

  • the band i am playing in is playing this i am listening to help me play. i play trombone tenor!

  • :D I've had the pleasure of hearing Troy play this twice now- once with an all Clarinet choir :3

I absolutely love this piece. I hope my director decides to play it sometime before I graduate!!

  • @SaikiRokoshi how can you play a song for a military band with only clarinets. that's retarded.

  • @redskinsfan201 Because they were good enough players to pull it off. Better than a judgmental turd such as yourself I'm sure >>

  • @SaikiRokoshi judgmental turd? good one. Sorry but a military band should have a good brass section

  • amazing piece. We played it in tenth grade and its still one of my favs.

    Gustav Holst = GENIUS

  • I'm playing it to and I'm in 7th. Crap, my band teacher must really want to push us, since he is retiring this year and he wants to go out with a bang.

  • @Spazman100 wow nice. what instrument do you play?

  • @Devosaw

    Clarinet. It's awesome!

  • @Spazman100 very impressive if you can play this on clarinet

  • @Devosaw

    Thank you.

  • @Spazman100 keep at it and just watch you will be so pro!

  • @Spazman100 7th grade? Holy crap. Your school must be full of musical prodigies. My friends high school band is having a hard time playing this.

  • @Yoofokneeum

Musical prodigies? I wish. Most of the people in my band class just talk among eachother. It's really annoying, especially since it can break your concentration.

  • @Spazman100 I know how you feel. My band is the same way. I'm in grade 9 and theres only about 3 other kids in my class that really understand music and can match my level.

  • @Spazman100 he sure picked the right song then haha

  • youtube is too slow now in its new template, my videos keep stopping all the time to load and its pissing me off

  • wow ppl are seriously fighting over classical music...

  • So beautiful! We played this in band for festival. All 1's! Had to look up a version on youtube to mark as a favorite. Thanks!

  • 9:12 to the end inspires me.

  • @tgoye and tptguitar5280

Why can't you just listen to the music and stop senselessly arguing in the comments? This piece is too good to be doing that bullshit.

  • I love March! So uplifting-making!

    Thanks for sharing!

  • The oboe soloist halfway through Mvt 1 was really weak -_-

  • Love the sax, trumpet and french horn in these pieces. The sax is the best.

  • trumpets better

  • @sonicsupa99 i played the michael sweeney version

  • mrs. lehr! PLAY THIS!

  • ooo i met micheal sweeny :)

  • I Play This Song In My Band{I Play Flute}

Its Definatly A Chalenge. But Is Cool Song!

  • @tgoye ah, but the real challenge here is spelling challenge and definitely right! hahaha jk :)

  • Yeah,,the reaal hard part is not being a asshole!!

  • @tgoye lol alright whatever

  • Wow,,whatever??

  • @tgoye look who's the asshole now, fucker! lol

  • @tgoye can't believe youtube lets retarded 13 year olds like yourself have their own accounts

  • @tgoye i just think little shits like you are annoying as hell. your mamma should slap you.

  • @tptguitar5280 I love it how you go on about spelling, yet seem completely unable to spell yourself.

  • @LiveTalkNow I didn't misspell anything, you retard. Haha!!

  • If you teacher hasn't mentioned it; note how that part after the flute/oboe exchange where the low winds take over again, it's the melody inverted. Pretty sweet right?

  • im playing this song but it was arranged by michael sweeney

  • that would be the "nerfed" version.

  • @sonicsupa99 I'm really curious as to how that looks like.

  • their about the same piecies of music just different intros and an ending

  • played this in hs freshman year alto sax haha was definitely a challenge but made first sax the year after thanks to hard work and this piece

  • Secretaddictt, this sounds like the Freddric fennel version, I have a copy of it on CD and its An Exact Match

  • no this is the Holst version trust me.

  • I played this in college as a tuba player, it was probably my favorite of everything i ever played
