Bobbie Gentry had the most unbelievable black hair by any singer ever. June Carter, Rita Coolidge, Sandie Shaw, Cher, and Crystal Gayle were close, but they didn't compare to Gentry (just as Lynn Anderson and Dolly Parton had the most excellent blonde hair; maybe Dusty Springfield too). Is there any wonder why Marlo Thomas chose her hair for the last season of "That Girl"?
@EricandDish She had (probably still has) thick, thick dark hair. Was fortunate to meet her and she was gorgeous, stunning. And most impressive- nice- a great gal.
Best singer- song writer of the sixties! My favorite ever. I've got all of her albums. I remember being so upset when she married Mr. Spiders and Snakes!
Great band. ANd thank god for the reverb all over this, especially on the drums. SOunds great. People could play at this point and live sound was all it should be. ANd I don't care what anyone says in this daft comments trail, the outfit is cute. Bobbie, I will play bass for you any day of the week. GIve me a call, I'm just down the street, let's do a gig. We'll touch them with love.
Love this song, reminds me of when I listened to it when it came out and I was in High School. Bobbie retired in LA and worked for years behind the scenes in sales/production in films/commercials. Curious, after she divorced Jim Stafford, who doesn't claim the son they had together (was it his???) she went into seclusion. She's since remarried and who knows if she's single again.
Raven Records will be releaseing Bobbie's studio albums Ode to Billie Joe and Touch Em With Love as a two-fer with bonus tracks shortly. The last 2007 Raven release of Bobbie's 'PatchWork- Fancy' albums has sold way above expectations with over 50,000 units sold, mostly on the internet.
Wow- thanks so much for this! What a treat to see more clips of Bobbie. I remember seeing her perform this song on TV and thinking how cool she was way back then. I've always loved Bobbie's voice- I think she had a great instrument. She could purr and melt butter or growl on rock and roll numbers like this. This album had some great vocals and tunes.

I am just discovering Bobbie Gentry thru the magic of YouTube. She is a unique artist. They don't make 'em like her nowadays

Really? That's an amazing figure for someone with such a low profile. Maybe at last the world is starting to catch up.
