I think it would be just as accurate to say "In terms of insuring that their genetic material is passed on to the next generation, men are naturally predfisposed to having as many partners as they can." That's not to say that we're incapable of cultivating more meaningful relationships, but there is a biological paradigm underlying many of the social constructs. Don't know where this, "Myth" came from, but it sounds like a leftover from the Victorian Age; However, having multiple sexual partners in the past is unappealing in both men and women. People that have had a lot of sexual partners in the past, generally have problems, BIG PROBLEMS. Most are train wreaks waiting to happen. If someone's used to having a different sexual partner every three months, what's the chances of a healthy monogamous relation forming that lasts more than a few months?

You are looking at things under ideal conditions...and in true life stuff is very different. but sticking to ideal conditions....woman may have less children than a man can have, but seeing how sperm is so readily available its almost insured she can get a child. however only few men get to copulate with many if any (under ideal conditions) and so this double standard is actually against men, coz only a fraction of men get more females...hence monogamy in society...(crap ive ran out of space)

There will always be people who save themselves for marriage, just as there will always be promiscuous people, male and female, who sleep around and are looked down upon.
