As far as the lack of expression goes, that's why back when singers used to also act and do playback for themselves, it looked so much more realistic (e.g., Saigal, Suraiya, Noor Jehan, Karan Deewan, Khurshid, Kanan Devi, Rajkumari, etc.).
suraiya & devanand had true love 4 each other but grand mother of suraiya poke her nose in their affair objecting 2 their love so their marriage couldnt b solemnized. the loving pair & couple was thus separated.suraiya didnt marry & till her death & had the full size photograph of dev in her bedroom. dev ultimately married kalpna kartik . twas a gr8 tragedy. the song is very sweet & an xclent composition of s d burman. lata g as usual with honey sweet divine voice make the song immortal.
NO doubt one of the best combination of the Trio of the century. The same song was sung as a cameo song by Late sh. GOLDIE (vijay anand ji) in the not so famous but must see movie CHOR CHOR with no other song besides that
Very beautifull song sung by beautifull Lata ji with HER Nectar Dripping Voice.20*****Yuan Ji helped me to find your site for this song.which i was looking for some time.
yes! he was madly in love with her and was BASHED UP by her maternal uncle when he approached them, strangely enough surraiya yielded to family pressure ........
later on dev married kk while shooting for "taxidriver" they went straight from the set and he was wearing the same uniform/dress.
Oh, I miss these songs as today the songs are too long and too much with music that just drags and drags..look at the curves in this song..so much remarkable and earsloving..
I agree that Madhubala might have added her incomparable grace to the picturization. KK was a reluctant actress unlike those like Madhu, Meena Kumari, Nargis, Nimmi, Suchitra Sen, Nutan, Vyjayanthimala, and Waheeda Rehman whose skills were honed by their professional commitment. Still, please enjoy KK's feminine, purity-filled beauty. All of the above stars including KK in the 50s projected an image of sweetness and purity that I don't see in today's Bollywood.
S. D. Burman's three outstanding song numbers which so lovingly capture the ecstatic state of a person who has just found what he or she was craving for, the other two being 'Khoya Khoya Chand' and 'Kanton se khench ke yeh aanchal' !
I have also always thought this is a phenomenal song by Dada Burman totally wasted in the picturisation. But your comment made me think. You are right, the problem is with Ms Kartik. She lacks grace. I feel if the director got Dev Anand into the frame..it would still have been better!

Dev, Kalpana made great sweet pair on screen. Mix in SD Burman to that and you get truly memorable romance.
