I always have said make it legal. I myself dont smoke marijuana.However I know Its safer then booze, safer then tobacco. It can make paper products aswell. Dont know why its no legal, its just plain weird to me. A 21 year old kid can kill his liver, mess up his kidneys, and vomit the whiskey and beer back up to just have a hangover.... It's not a global conspiracy to keep people from thinking, even most pot heads I know couldn't tell you WHY exactly pot should be legalized or why it's illegal, but rather any prohibition law that is made is almost always about money and putting more people through the criminal justice system.

So, what in the hell happened in California on Nov. 2nd? I do not understand it. My son and I were talking and he thinks it's because of all the older people and their fear. I said honey the baby boomer generation invented pot in this modern age. Now, my husband and I (35 yrs) have never gotten high together but we both see how this prohibition law is wrong. Think of all the revenue CA could have raked in. Are the voting results in CA rigged? Who benefits if pot is illegal?

The two businesses that benefit the most in California would be the "Medical Marijuana" community and the prison system. "Med pot" dispensaries would obviously see a huge drop in their sales as people went "homegrown", plus most of the customers are obviously bullshitting their symptoms. A lot of med pot "patients" I've talked to only choose "med" over "street" because the latter is legal.

And if all the pot prisoners in California were freed, God forbid that we'd have to fight REAL crime...

One of the largest battles legalization will have to fight are ad/smear campaigns against marijuana that are paid for by alcoholic beverage companies for fear that if people start smoking much herb, their appetite for booze will decrease.

Causation does not equal correlation. If someone wants to try coke, chances are they weren't satisfied with weed. So on and so forth.

@spinemelter2000 yes, you're right, but what i'm trying to state here is that (as many people have commented already before me) there's a fairly linear progression, or a ladder of drug use that branches out as you get into harder drug territory. the first substance of choice is alcohol, since it's easy to raid a liquor cabinet and fairly simple to obtain (and that's even if you're not of legal age). i personally don't know many people that do hard drugs, but i'd agree with your statement.

I understand your point of view. My speculation on marijuana as a gateway drug could be wrong because I've never used it or any other illegal drugs, and I didn't have alcohol until I was 21. People who break the law have crossed a certain line, even if the crime is something as trivial as smoking marijuana. I personally have reverence for laws. I've used plenty of OTC and Rx drugs, which I'm not proud to admit, but I draw the line based on legality of the drugs I use.

If it's a gateway drug in the sense I described, I think legalizing marijuana would reduce that stigma, and people wouldn't have to worry about whether they're doing something illegal. I agree that marijuana should either be legalized or that the laws prohibiting it need to be more liberal.

i don't smoke, however I do take into account the historical value of marijuana. look up the history of marijuana just preceding our secession from great britain. a part of what made the secession possible was our ability to rely on locally made clothing from hemp products. prior to this we were dependent on britain - we were legally required to harvest hemp, send it to britain to be made into clothing, then have it sent back to us with a tax put on it.

I don't think you'll find anyone who would argue against you on that matter, but perhaps you'd agree that any movement forward is better than nothing at all? I mean, we need to get our foot in the door and it looks like we may have done just that. I don't think that means we'll stop there though. We'll still be active.
