I have a solid black line on a 51 inch plasma samsung tv. It is horizontal and it an inch above the bottom of the screen and about 6 inches tall. Could this be the same problem?
thats tmartn's theme at the beginning lol. But yeah i got the same problem the top half of my plasma tv is scrambled with a bunch of colors. but after like 5 to 10 minutes it goes away. I know eventually it will probably stay like that forever but for now i can ignore it
i have a panasonic 42 or 47 idk but the problem is that i turn it on it last like 1 or 2 minutes then it starts flashing the image then the screen just turns all black but the tv is still on help plzzz thx
I have a LG42 Inch Model LF11 that show only half the picture. The other half is black. Could that be a Y board problem or a logic board problem. thanks! Carly
DO I NEED A POWER SURGE PROTECTOR or One with also EMI ? filtering?
Are house the lights flicker when fan gets turned on. Im getting a panasonic Veria near new. I had to give up my big CRT panaonic due to the 3 error code. I just dont want to do the same to it. Also is it better to leave it in stand by. or turn off, and what freqency tuen off from wall. Id rather have a CRT. I love VHS and just the old stuff. ANd reto games. And a low bandwith youtube stream would look crap too.
dude have a 46" lcd by samsung what a piece of shit. 2 years and now have half the screen that is very dark and if i hit the tv which i often fucking do it brightens up. the half that is affected seems to bleed slowly as if the lcd is cold if that makes any sense. There is a video if you search for samsung lcd vertical banding that looks like my problem. do you have any idea what this could be? also is this planned obsolescence or just shit manufacturing?
question for experts... I have a unusual issue with my LG 42" 42PQ12 720P Plasma...
the lower half of the screen will have fuzz and stuck pixals when the tv is first fired up... once it has been on for about 15 mins to a half hour it goes away... however it has got worse over time... you really only see it when there is a white area on the bottom.. and the rest of the screen is darker.... it used to only be noticable when using my PC on the tv... however now it is noticable on everything. help
This was my exact issues and you saved me from buying a new TV. I found the buffer board online for ~$80 and TV works great!! Thanks for the vid, very much appreciated.
Good Video, a lot of good information here, thanks very much for posting. I had a question and hope maybe you might be able to assist or point me in the right direction. I was given a Samsung Flatscreen. Model LN-S4041D. It has no sound. To get sound before i had to power it on for 10 minutes, then turn off and on. Now I don't get any sound at all. If there is any advice on a repair I can do myself I would certainly appreciate it. Thanks in advance and best Regards. Andrew
Great video, but its not the same as my issue i'm having :( I was using Netflix on the Xbox 360. All of a sudden my (50' Samsung Plasma) tv got crazy red flickering and the screen went black as if were turned on. I disconnected it all, turned it back on to cable and it has sound but absolutely no picture. Any suggestions? It is about 5 years old.
@agdthatguy Its his sense of humor...LOL listen to the beginning. " For those from Canada...This is the LEFT and the RIGHT side of the back of the television" (there was a R on the right and a L on the left as well that he pointed to. i have a Hitachi 50" and it wont' stay powerd up it play for about 20 min then shut down the blue power light blinks three time then pause then repeats the three blink i have to unplug it then wait for about ten mins only to have the same thing happen someone pleas help :(
@tina3038 I have a Samsung that has done the same thing. I replaced the voltage detector about a year and a half ago, and that solved the issue up until about a month ago. Putting in another voltage detector (a 20-cent part) didn't resolve it this time. It's my suspicion that the flyback transformer is producing too much voltage, causing the voltage detector to engage and shut down the TV. The flyback transformer is a high voltage component that should be replaced by a professional.
@appmanga i agree i would never try to fix it myself but you want to know whats crazy about my situation it will stay powered up while i'm playing Zelda Ocarina of time for the 64. but as soon as i get into playing Black Ops it plays for like 20 mins then just shuts down but thanks for replying friend i appreciate it :)
@tina3038 If you have heard a high pitched whine from your TV before you started having this issue, it's possible that your flyback is the issue. Working on any electronic device has dangers, and is best left to the qualified professional. Good luck.
HEYY!! maybe you can help me out. i have a 58" samsung plasma tv. ive had it for almost exactly 1 year now, and when it was on a white screen i noticed in the upper right corner it had dark moving horizontal flicker, that has grown a bit in th last week of so and takes up almost the top half, but stays more on the right side, on the very top however the line (only on whites and sometimes yellows) does go across the tv. i can upload a video if needed.
I have a Samsung lcd with similar symptoms to this! what can be the cause?? A couple of Caps were blown on my power board i have now replaced them but the problem is still the same :( any suggestions would be appreciated Thank you..
i hv a Samsung 48 inch plasma and for the last few months, horizontal lines which are black in color hv been appearing on my tv on the right hand side. these lines are bold and thick and the do not stay all the time.sometimes he screen is normal, sometimes the right hand side is completely black and sometimes, these horizontal lines are appearing.....can u tell me wats going on?

so what causes this then in the 1st place as ive just had my broken plasma tv replaced with a samsung and what started of as on of the green lines has now became like 7 or 8 but when you tilt the screen forward some disapear the company i got it from is ringing me thurs with a view to replacing the tv as i only got it today 16/02/11
I have a Panasonic TH-65pz750u plasma tv with vertical lines in the upper middle of the screen but no horizontal lines. should I just change the C3 board first before changing the y board?
Good luck with getting one that works more than a month before 1/3 of the screen develops vertical lines. Look at the video on my post to see what I'm talking about. And apparently this is a very common issue as BEST BUY can't get a replacement for about a month. Every store that reported to have one of these televisions in stock was accounting for a television that was returned for the same reason.
Did you try reflowing the buffer chip of the y board upper? I am wondering if the chip was bad or maybe just the connections to it. (Connections to SMD parts can and do go bad.)

@lionstrike5858 LED tv's uses new modern screens that wont break that easily. So your very expensive screen is most probably fine. The red and blue vertical lines i have no information about, but from my perspective i would try to look for bad caps ( do not look near the power supply, its probably fine the way it is! ) If none were to be fine, try cooking the video / processor card in the oven at 195 Celsius for about 7 minutes and try again. Note, might damage some caps depending on their value
@Allow003 But always, before you cook your card. Clean everything and spray some kontakt 60 and kontakt WS and plug it back together. If this did not work you can cook it. Because the last resort you want to try is to cook it, and when you do this its very important not to fail. There are videos on Youtube that will guide you if your confused. Regards Alexander
@DishonestApparel I have A Samsung plasma tv about 7 or 6 years old and i have 3 vertical lines in the screen can i fix it with your way like in the movie ?
Hello, This symptom was permanent or intermittent?? I have a LG TV with a similar problem, but in most of the time, does not show the problem, for that reason I have not fixed.
Ok I need help, My parents haven't noticed, but my fathers Samsung HDTV is like the tv in the video shown, but it's not the top half, it's the whole screen except the very bottom, cuz it's normal, A)What's wrong with it? B)How can we fix it? And C)How do I tell dad without him flipping shit? Please and thanks :)
Ok I need help, my parents don't know yet but I just noticed that my dads Samsung HDTV is like the one shown in the video, but it's not half, it's like the whole screen except a strip down at the bottom, and it's normal, and it's probably a year or two old, A) what's wrong with it? B) how do I tell my dad so he doesn't flip shit? And C) How can we fix it?
i bought my samsung lcd plasma 42" 2 months ago and my kids just broken the screen i can hear the sound and everything but no picture i have 1 yr waranty still they won't pay for repair cuz they said its my fault someone told me just toss it away and buy anew one cost of the repair is duoble what u bought for i can't afford a new one any help?
so basicallyy u bought the tv for soo much money and yet it broke on you?? wth I'd go to the store and argue with the sellers. its a 2010 flat screen for god sake!!
gt the same plasma and problem as in ur vid..........but now i hav no picture at all..... would the part still fix it and were did you get the y-board from
I think i got same problem as you tho the lines are halfway down. 2 lines left and right going from top to halfway down they are colorfull so you think i got the same problem? Those lines are perfect space aparta maybe 3inches from left and right
did you mean that the tv exploded after you used this method to replace the y board, or were you talking of another issue with the tv? I was thinking of getting a non functioning tv and trying this myself.
@djcountry1985 No, the gas is gone so you need a new screen. You'll be lucky if you can find the panel at all, so just buy a new tv then catalog the other parts and sell them on ebay.
My 7 month old Samsung PN50B650 recently started displaying very thin horizontal lines across the screen, at first only one about 3 inches from the bottom, then 3 more lines appeared a few days later close to each other. At this rate I expect more. Are these boards somewhat universal? I cannot find any resources regarding what type of board (model no.) I would need to put in the TV if I am unable to get a solution out of Samsung. This video alone gives me hope, and for that I thank you.
@WhiskeyFoxtrotTango I believe if you look up the part, it will tell you which other TV's it is compatible with. You may want to do random selection of Google Search combinations for your TV model number and 'board' 'y board' etc. Unfortunately my knowledge of TV repair begins and ends with the 2 TV's we happened to fix...
hey, not sure if this has already been asked...but the entire screen is black on my Samsung plasma..can this problem be fixed the same way as described in the videoo? Thanks!
@brianerrigo Looks like an issue more in line with the LCD repair video we have. These are the only 2 videos we've repaired so our knowledge begins and ends there...
@DishonestApparel Hi, what about a 42" plasma hd ready tv that has a bluish verticle line going all the way down the right or left hand side of the screen...
If this was a screen this is how I'd explain it: [l ] - with the l being the bluish vertical line...
I have a Samsung Plasma HP-R452C. A 42". And It has a thick vertical black line going down the central. What could be wrong? Someone told me that its the Central Invertor, but I want to make sure before I buy the part
@roy360360 it is actually weak solder points.. i just recently fixed that on my 42' plasma. where the black line is there are the flimsy cables that plug into the board, and theres chips on the plug, u add solder to the solder points and it will fix the black line.
Does this work for LCD screens also? I have the streaks at the top and a big 3 inch grey circle at the bottom. If you can help that will be great. Thanks
@fotograferdave I am not 100% Sure. I did some research before I found the part that fixes this one...I don't think LCDs have the same boards as Plasmas...
the bottom half of my tv is all pink and red with green, is this the same problem? top half is perfect but bottom half is all messed up. whats wrong with it?
im having the same problem another poster mentioned. no video but i have audio. I was told this could either be the main sustain board or a power problem. Ive checked the front panel it's okay. i checked both y boards, they're okay. do you have any tips on using a volt/ohm meter to test electric problems or how to test main sustain board without replacing first?
@tech24218 I'm not that sophisticated yet. My apologies. See the video on LCD that we put up, which has a blank video problem, but the audio was fine.
I have a Sony 47 inch S Series, i have a similar problem with mine, a litle older than 2 years. Mine does it on the hole right side but only when i first turn it on, at first it lasted a couple minutes and know it takes like half an hour before it clears up, so im guessing sonys have Right and left Y-Boards. Ill take a video of it and post it for you to watch and advise.
I have a 42" plasma Samsung model HP-R4262X/XAA and my screen is black but the sound comes on. Do you think that replacing the Y boards will repair this problem?
@MegaEngins Possibly. I think it may be a different board causing it to go black. Did you ever have those red/green lines appear, or did the entire screen go blank? Check out our LCD Blank Screen Video. That may help...
I have the same in the 42' Samsung HP-R4252X. My tv went with the lines from across the tv & red dots blue dots & green dots popping up & going away. I saw you replace the Y board in this video. What do u thing I need to replace?
hey, my plasma displays horizontal messy lines, but its only on the left side of the screen. right half is perfect, what controls left and right of the screen? it's a 42 inch lg plasma btw, thankyou~
@cuvubu1 Don't think it's a Y Board issue. Unless of course LG separates out left and right instead of top/bottom. You may be able to find some info on this online. Sorry couldn't be a better help.
hey, my plasma displays horizontal messy lines, but its only on the left side of the screen. right half is perfect, what controls left and right of the screen? it's a 42 inch lg plasma btw, thankyou~
@cocoakain Green line through the bottom may be the Y-Board lower, but not too sure. The research I uncovered was more about vertical lines across one of the 6 panels (if the whole board is bad, it would be 3 panels, either all top 3 or bottom 3).
I also don't think mine had the 'snow' effect. More of a green/red appearance (as seen in video)
@dominikajolantazyra When you say 'still happened' does that mean the upper half of your screen is still showing those vertical lines? The upper board controls the top half of your screen and the lower board controls the bottom half. If you replaced the upper board and the bottom of your screen has a problem, then you need to replace the bottom y board (y-board lower).
@kjbryan09 I am not sure. My initial thought was that it just fixes the vertical lines that appear on either the top or bottom of the screen. If it is just the bottom half, then maybe the entire Y board is shot and it will work again if replaced. Otherwise the motherboard may be your problem.
Thanks so much for posting this! I'm gonna give this a try on my HP-R272 and hope it works. You've been very helpful. I just hope I can find a replacement Y-board...
my son threw a bottle at the tv . it got broken from the inside. can be fixed?? >Samsung LCD

TheJoseM915 7 months ago
@lionstrike5858 LED tv's uses new modern screens that wont break that easily. So your very expensive screen is most probably fine. The red and blue vertical lines i have no information about, but from my perspective i would try to look for bad caps ( do not look near the power supply, its probably fine the way it is! ) If none were to be fine, try cooking the video / processor card in the oven at 195 Celsius for about 7 minutes and try again. Note, might damage some caps depending on their value
Allow003 2 months ago
@Allow003 But always, before you cook your card. Clean everything and spray some kontakt 60 and kontakt WS and plug it back together. If this did not work you can cook it. Because the last resort you want to try is to cook it, and when you do this its very important not to fail. There are videos on Youtube that will guide you if your confused. Regards Alexander

WhiskeyFoxtrotTango 1 year ago
@WhiskeyFoxtrotTango I believe if you look up the part, it will tell you which other TV's it is compatible with. You may want to do random selection of Google Search combinations for your TV model number and 'board' 'y board' etc. Unfortunately my knowledge of TV repair begins and ends with the 2 TV's we happened to fix...

I have a Samsung Plasma HP-R452C. A 42". And It has a thick vertical black line going down the central. What could be wrong? Someone told me that its the Central Invertor, but I want to make sure before I buy the part
roy360360 1 year ago
@roy360360 Not sure here. These are the only 2 TV's we've repaired...
DishonestApparel 1 year ago
@roy360360 it is actually weak solder points.. i just recently fixed that on my 42' plasma. where the black line is there are the flimsy cables that plug into the board, and theres chips on the plug, u add solder to the solder points and it will fix the black line.

im having the same problem another poster mentioned. no video but i have audio. I was told this could either be the main sustain board or a power problem. Ive checked the front panel it's okay. i checked both y boards, they're okay. do you have any tips on using a volt/ohm meter to test electric problems or how to test main sustain board without replacing first?

I have a Sony 47 inch S Series, i have a similar problem with mine, a litle older than 2 years. Mine does it on the hole right side but only when i first turn it on, at first it lasted a couple minutes and know it takes like half an hour before it clears up, so im guessing sonys have Right and left Y-Boards. Ill take a video of it and post it for you to watch and advise.

MegaEngins 1 year ago
@MegaEngins Possibly. I think it may be a different board causing it to go black. Did you ever have those red/green lines appear, or did the entire screen go blank? Check out our LCD Blank Screen Video. That may help...

hey, my plasma displays horizontal messy lines, but its only on the left side of the screen. right half is perfect, what controls left and right of the screen? it's a 42 inch lg plasma btw, thankyou~
cuvubu1 1 year ago
@cuvubu1 Don't think it's a Y Board issue. Unless of course LG separates out left and right instead of top/bottom. You may be able to find some info on this online. Sorry couldn't be a better help.

@cocoakain I don't remember, but I did a parts search in Google and clicked "shopping". Basically found the cheapest result.
DishonestApparel 1 year ago
Interesting. Would you happen to know how to fix the same model that has snow in the screen or a green line though the bottom half of the screen?
cocoakain 1 year ago
@cocoakain Green line through the bottom may be the Y-Board lower, but not too sure. The research I uncovered was more about vertical lines across one of the 6 panels (if the whole board is bad, it would be 3 panels, either all top 3 or bottom 3).
I also don't think mine had the 'snow' effect. More of a green/red appearance (as seen in video)
DishonestApparel 1 year ago
what if you have toshiba?
junglechickjm14 1 year ago
@junglechickjm14 That I can't tell you. Most plasmas likely have a form of this part, but do a bit of research to make sure it's the exact one.
DishonestApparel 1 year ago
@DishonestApparel oh,k . thanks anyway and for this video.
junglechickjm14 1 year ago
@dominikajolantazyra When you say 'still happened' does that mean the upper half of your screen is still showing those vertical lines? The upper board controls the top half of your screen and the lower board controls the bottom half. If you replaced the upper board and the bottom of your screen has a problem, then you need to replace the bottom y board (y-board lower).
DishonestApparel 1 year ago
will this work if the bottom half of the screen is all black?
kjbryan09 1 year ago
@kjbryan09 I am not sure. My initial thought was that it just fixes the vertical lines that appear on either the top or bottom of the screen. If it is just the bottom half, then maybe the entire Y board is shot and it will work again if replaced. Otherwise the motherboard may be your problem.
DishonestApparel 1 year ago
Thanks so much for posting this! I'm gonna give this a try on my HP-R272 and hope it works. You've been very helpful. I just hope I can find a replacement Y-board...
