lol No, you don't go by historical Christianity. "Another gospel." Wrong kid. We teach the everlasting gospel (Revelation 14:6) of Jesus Christ. "No Jesus plus any human effort" So you're saying Jesus lied when he said we're to do good works? You're saying the Bible lies when it says we'll be judged by our WORKS? We stand on the gospel of Jesus Christ. You are way off with the Bible. Historical Christianity contained temples, prophets, apostles, revelation, etc.
I find it amazing that this argument still goes on when the the scriptures tell us that we are justified by our faith and our works. James 2:24 if we are to be justified by our works how can we make no effort and be justified (ie Saved) . this man is the one who is deceived. Sorry but its true. What we forget is that our efforts are miniscule in comparison to what Jesus Christ does for us.
@goper1966 that whole chapter, when taken in context, is clearly teaching that we are justified by faith alone, but that the true saving faith produces works. James is contrasting those who say they are saved, but have no works to show for it, versus those who are truly saved and, out of that faith, produce good works as outward evidence of that faith.
LOL, who gives a shit. Since Christianity is based on mythology. Mormonism is mythology based on mythology. Who gives a fuck. Isn't it all just about trying to be better people. You Jesus freaks are a hoot. You worship a brilliant sexually ambiguous preacher (there is some evidence that he may have been either married or even bisexual) who had a God complex. Stop pointing your dirty fingers at other poor saps who are trying just as hard to make a meaningless existence worth living. Peace.
If your friends ask, Does your church believe you are saved by grace or works? you could say, We believe that we are saved by grace after all we can do (see 2 Ne. 25:23). We dont earn salvation. Heavenly Father and the Savior will bless us with eternal life, through Their grace, if we do our part. They have asked us to have faith in Jesus Christ, repent throughout our lives, be baptized and receive other ordinances, and faithfully endure to the end.
What is ironic about the doctrine presented here is that Mormons agree with a lot of it...yes, only through Jesus alone can we be saved. Yes, there is no amount of good works, church attendance, etc. that will get us into heaven...yes, yes, yes! Amen! HOWEVER, Jesus said "If you love me, keep my commandments." Guess what, that takes effort! And nurturing a love for God, like any other type of relationship, takes commitment and effort. That's why we (mormons) do what we do.
@jman91843 You obviously do not understand... your work does not make you righteous before God, also most of this stuff is not at all accepted by the LDS church.. IF you accept it... amen, awesome! But the church teaches much different ideas, this is why they don't believe christians can make it to the celestial kingdom if they arent a part of the church! Meaning not being with God or saved... this is extremely different than what the Bible teaches.
HISTORICAL CHURCH?...Would that be the Roman Catholic Church or The Church of Jesus Christ?
One of these two Churches have led millions away from your true salvation in which Christ died for.
If I recall correctly Martin Luther & others left the RCC & started their own & splitting from the RCC continued ever since.
And what happened to The Church of Jesus Christ? Wasn't that what the RCC based their beliefs on? They lost it & God took away from them the "authority" to act in His name.
My heart goes out to the Mormons. I used to be one them. I know that Mormonism is not just another Christian religon. I pray that they will learn the truth about their religion, and come to a relationship with Jesus Christ.
@Yunginspirit You would say that considering you are Mormon. Would Jesus be deceitful and not tell someone the whole truth? Mormonism is very cautious about how much they say about their beliefs. They use the bait and which method of teaching others what their religion is really all about. By the time someone knows the truth it's to late, they've already been baptized into the church, and the indoctrination has started. The sad truth is Mormonism is light-years away from being Christian.
@Grace: No, Jesus was perfect. Altho 'He opened not his mouth' to his accusers bar a few times, Christ was not being deceitful. When one joins a new Church they are like babes who cannot chew solids without teeth...they must first 'eat milk.' Then progress 'line upon line, precept upon precept' until they come to a full knowledge of the Gospel. First we are taught the basic Principles & Doctrine. There is so much to learn & it's up to us to study, ponder & pray to know the Truth of all things.
@Yunginspirit I know Jesus wasn't deceitful, Mormonism is deceitful. "The Gospel" is free to all, and available to all, all they have to do is pick up the Bible and read it. It's Mormonism that will tell you, "oh no first you have to learn, x, and y, then maybe if you are good enough, and worthy enough you will learn z. "
@MrHappiness777 - I'm confused, Yunginspirit didn't say anything about "being good to earn his way to heaven"... He said, Jesus taught if you love him you will keep his commandments... We dont get to Pick and Choose what part of the bible we believe in. In no way shape or form do Mormons think they are perfect, but we love our Saviour and so we do our best to keep his commandments... do you not believe the same?
@ITakeAStand im sorry but you do not need to SAY that you believe in merited salvation or not, but i know for a fact that MORMONISM separate from your own beliefs believes fundamentally in a salvation based in merit... the only problem is that the entire Bible says that this is wrong.
You need to repent and find the true meaning of being a follower of the Lord Jesus. You need to repent and learn the true meaning of what it means to be a member of a world wide family. Stop spreading separatist views, divisive views concerning your brothers and sisters. Hitler was the master of such propaganda and amen to an individual that follows such a satanic path. Amen.
Though I try to appreciate what is being said, I can not accept any "person" who would speak ill of another organization. I find this individual no different from someone who has to instill fear in a fearful congregation to earn a paycheck. All I hear is a desperate act of someone who is grasping and trying to bring people unto himself all in the name of ego and monetary gain. How much did you earn off this propaganda?
@akamasteryoda " How much did you earn off this propaganda?" I don't know, how much do the G.A's and Mormon prophets earn? They are paid, they do receive a "living allowance". I wonder how much they earned for their propaganda during General Conference.
@akamasteryoda You have no idea how amazing and giving Todd is. Almost every pastor in a major church is paid. There are a lot of issues in relation to Mormonism expressed in Christianity and even to non-Christians. This isn't the first person to say it, think it, or believe it. You just happened to stumble upon Todd's.
