  • This,my friends,is what you call a woman.Buxom and full, with an otherworldly talent whose purity seems to transcend corporeality. This is a lady, who commanded beauty,in every sense of the word. She epitomizes all the feminist ideals.A true woman.Beautiful and talented - what more could you ask?If only there were more women like her today...

  • I'm studying this piece in college and she's so accurate. I only listen to this recording because she doesn't make mistakes, its fantastic

  • this was so gorgeous.

  • I first heard Rita Streich sing nearly 40 years ago. She still remains my favourite coloratura soprano. A voice for all eternity - like this song.

  • How beautiful, I like her manner a lot, and nice to know there are performers of this magnitude who also close theri eyes :D

    What a shame the accompanist didn't get a mention; it's a duet .

  • Beautiful, priceless footage. Who is the pianist? Thank you.

  • Who is the pianist? This is wonderful. Lorna Kelly

  • This is just marvellous. I can't find the words to describe her interpretation. Perhaps natural , an d to the point.

  • musically and this pianist is FANTASTIC

  • Wunderbar!! So so beautiful.

  • Perfection, many could learn from this!

  • Rita Streich has such a beautiful voice. Thanks very much.

  • She kind of looks like Meryl Streep.

  • @barefootfernticle So now we know who to cast if they ever make a movie about Rita Streich's life :)

  • Whi is the pianist? I'm getting fed up with al of these vocal performance uploads that completely ignore the identity ofi the pianist! This performance could not have taken place without the superb collaboration of the pianist.

  • Marvelous!TY

  • One of the great voices.Brava! TY.James.

  • Truly Beautiful indeed.

    Is the accompanist Hertha Klust?

  • Just so you know, the accurate and respectful term for the superb collaborator is "pianist," not the servile, second-best, less important appellation "accompanist." Isn''t it amazing that almost nobody bothers to identify the pianist in these vocal uploads, reducing them to lesser importance and unnecessary status?

  • Just so you know, I prefer the word accompanist. "The pianoforte accompanies the voice". There is nothing degrading in that expression, other than in your pompous head.

  • The pianoforte may accompany the voice, but the PIANIST EQUALLY COLLABORATES with the singing artist. I am a humble servant of the art and have worked as a highly respected professional musician for over thirty years; your rush to judgement and name calling is more revealing of your pompousness than mine; I am only standing up for much abused "accompanist" colleagues of mine. To be equal is not to be pompous.

  • Truly beautiful.

  • beautiful!!!!!!

  • What an incredible performance! Rita Streich was truly a gifted soprano. I never witnessed her perform, and am doubly grateful for your kindness in posting, Thank you so much.

  • Beautiful. The only other soprano that gave me a chill with this lied is Elizabeth Schwarzkopf.

  • Superb! Brava! TY.

  • Thank you so much for postin this!!!

  • A wonderful artist. The phrase "Durch der Menschen stille Brust" is heavenly.
