The metrobuses were first, but you cant replace that character of the Dommys. The only bus since locally that has had character was the B10m, all the rest dont compare. Rotherham isnt the same without competition like Andrews, SUT, and Rotherham and District.
I remember when the Dominators and Metrobuses were new, they were the best thing since sliced Wards (beer), far better than the old daimler fleetlines and Leyland Atlantians. One thing I remember of the Dominators was a smell, the old daimlers just smelt of hot engine, the Dennises had a sweet smell, weird!
The Sheffield bus with the most charactor had to be the Ailsa Volvos though with the badly co-ordinated gearboxes, used to love them, ah, memories!
The good old days when you could tell one bus from the other are long gone. My dad was a driver between 1959 & 1986 and I have many fond memories riding up front on these. He even showed me the engine that said ''Powered by Rolls Royce'' on it. Happy days.

Actually I used to ride these betweek Sheffield and Bakewell five days a week and the long wheelbase one's with the big Tubocharged Gardner engines went like shit off a shovel. One was running 15 mins late out of Sheffield once and he drove it like hell and we arrived on time into Bakewell.
Nice! Is there on board footage of these buses? I remember riding them back in 1996 on my field trip when we went to Sheffield for the day.
