  • I'm not the greatest fan of muscle cars, I would pick a japanese car every time over an american car, BUT, I still respect the fact that the mucsle cars can haul a bus with their immense V8s. Also I don't like when people tune muscle cars only for 1/4s. I've see a foxbody with a 500ish hp and some drag radials. It barely had any dials inside the car, he didn't reinforce the body, no roll-cage and some other stuff. In short, it was a death trap.

    Every car has potential, if it's tuned correctly

  • I like functionality no matter import or domestic, personally I think it comes down to how the driver can maneuver his (or her) vehicle. That being said I personally like domestic V8s but I wouldn't pass up the opportunity to drive a well put together car... As long as it isn't a "Donk"

  • @AgentStyles FWD cars need spoilers too. Downforce is a must. The Audi TT is FWD and it NEEDS a spoiler or else you would die trying to do a highspeed run. The car didnt have downforce therefore causing oversteer.

  • @AgentStyles actually a front wheel drive car reacts to a spoiler the same way a rear wheel drive car, by creating stability with down force at high speeds, when i say high speed were talking one hundred twenty plus mile per hour. The argument of a useless spoiler is of car that doesn't have enough horse power to use it, not that its drive train goes threw the front wheels. their are plenty of front wheel drive cars that need spoilers, its just V8 guys who think the spoiler belongs to them.

    I love the Rx7's and Supras but i'm not going to dump 85K into a car and only run 9's in a 1/4. yes that is fast but why not dump 85K into an 8 cylinder car or one of those 10/12 cylinder euros and and outrun sound?

    I don't think that one or the other is better, I just think that everybody should race in there own class and quit competing with something that isn't even a close comparison.

  • not just the older guys are muscle guys, i got my first foxbody when i was 14, built it up to eventually reach 320rwhp naturally aspirated, and i'm 19 now building my second one with a 408w stroker and spray. you will never catch me in the seat of a japanese import, domestic cars are my life, and i'm not the only one, i can tell you right now being a student at UTI there are alot of the imports but all the serious guys drive the domestics.

I remember when I was 18 I worked at Advance Auto Parts my senior year and all of the other guys working there were older than me and all of them liked Imports they use to laugh at my S10. After I swapped my 350 in it stock it would crush there modded Hondas and the manager had a Subaru that I would own. Now my S10 is a pro street that runs on the 10.90 Index.

  • 90% of the import vs domestic thing is fwd vs rwd.fwd is an inferior performance platform in every way. that said; the sky's the limit these days in terms of hp per ci, to a point. people are pushing 2.0l engines over 1000 whp. and the lsx motors are knocking on 3 grand. both will almost never hook up on the street, so to each his own. i will say the muscle car trannies and rear ends are a bit cheaper and more robust than the imports, which generally makes them a bit cheaper to build.

    im in to muscle cars and imported cars but ive got a completely stock 12a rotary in my car which i picked up for 2.5 thousand car and engine and it would do around 12 sec.

    so really its not always cheaper to get a v8. but its really on personal preference.

  • i like the big V8 cars. but i am thinking about building a high boost EVO X. the only reason is i am a E85 fan and i can really take advantage of the 105 octane in E85 without spending that much money. around $3000 to $5000 for turbo kit, $500 for 1300cc injectors, $500 for Buschur Racing Evo X Double Pumper fuel system, $500 on a high boost E85 tune. ill have better gas millage than a V8 and as long as the V8 is running 91 or 93 octane pump gas i should beat it. also it's a better daily driver.

  • The thing that makes me laugh about all of the import vs. the domestic... The vehicles. Yeah we can build a 1.6 liter single cam to make 700 hp. Domestic, they have 5.7 and 6.2 liters that are barely starting to make real hp numbers. What was it before 300 hp out of 5.7 L. Lets see the domestic take a muscle car on a road course. Imports can drag and road race, muscle, well I have yet to meet one who can take a 30 mph turn at 70. Imports offer more opportunity. You can disagree, IMO.

  • @savagexhaley14 your refering to the 572 big block crate engine from chevy.. which is a 9.3 L engine which is equal to 75 hp per liter compared to the S2000 honda first gen which makes 247 hp out of 2.0 L. Which equals 123.5 hp per liter. Can't fight the numbers. Import engines are better performers. When US engines go back to the L47 engine design and perfect it, then US engines will be in the game. The L47 made 650 hp when it was used in the IRL 162.5 hp per liter. New age, need new engines.

Look the point is All the displacement in the world will never outperform efficiency. If I were to invest the time to make a V8 worth anything more then a paper weight is if a customer paid me. The engines single cam OHV w/pushrods is a antique, a waste of motion and a failure that should have been done away with in the 70's.

  • @Marshmallowrex ya and a lame ass turbo kit on an 89 5.0 you will easily go low 11's . one of my good friends has a respectfully fast eg coupe. but he has spend over 8g's between the gsr block trans and turbo kit. dynoed at 390 atw on 12 psi and 460 on 16. its a very big turbo. still only about an 11 second car. now spend 8 g's on a 5.0. you will easily have a 10 sec or even 9 second car. not only that you can pick up a 5.0 lx coupe for around 1500. honda is not bang for buck.

    When was the last time you saw a Lamborghini? a Ferrari or Saleen S7 or even a Mclaren F1?

    Its about the numbers, they don't lie. You can't classfy something that is in very limited numbers. Even the Dodge Viper can't be listed in that group because there's so limited numbers of them.

  • I know of a place that bulds monster 4cyls for the strip.No doubt they can be MADE to be real fast.For me it's not the end point,so much as the starting point.That's why I prefer muscle.That and the feeling of being in a car made of metal.And the rumble opposed to the whine.The feeling.Muscle has more to offer for me.But yes anything can be made fast with money.

  • @tyu198 The newer versions 89+ of the 5.0 come with 225hp stock and with less than 2 grand you can easily make it a 300 hp car. Id rather get me some real muscle for less than 6k than waste 12k on some import that cant run for shit.

    Lets see...by your math, lets add 30K on top of, say, 1200 for a used CRX..add tune, and a few other upgrades, Id say 45K total...to get close to, if not, better times than a "fully built V8" that costs around 50-70k with a way bigger motor.
