do you know where to get repalcement blades? And how long they usually last? I love mine..works on the junk, the trunk, chest, arms, pits, legs...it rocks
Tx for a thorough review. I was surprised to hear you say the trimmer without the comb has an "Ouch" factor. I've had mine for 9 months, never use the comb & trim everywhere inc the crack of my ass with no pinching or problems. If you want "Ouch" use an epilator for the same job! In answer to marceltorretta's question about the trimmer, it shaves the entire body adequately but not quite close enough for my liking. Also see Amazon's reviews for the same model.
I understand it's a good product. Although it seems to shave pretty well, I've seen some complaints about the trimming. I would like to trim most of my body hair rather than shaving it. (chest, for example). What do you say about this feature in this device? Is it easy to perform a homogeneous trimming with the length of your choice?
@marceltorretta - There will always be complaints about any given product (you can't please everyone). As for trimming most of your body hair it should be fine for that. But to be perfectly honest I haven't used it in such a way. I only use it for my pits, "down there" and my chest.
@YMSCanadian Ok, I see. I would like to buy it, but it seems we don't have this model here in Brazil yet. There is only the previous model, without the trimming head. I'll see what I can do. Thanks for answering.
@marceltorretta Well the intent was to put forth a good product but it was a total fail for my uses. Pivoting head is totally useless and works against the user. The shave of the foil blade is not close at all and does end up with leftover stubble. Also makes a person red with irritation unlike a better shaver.
thanks for the review, I'm looking for a good (price doesn't matter,) willing to spend a nice amount for something decent that will trim beard and body hair. anyone help me please? is the included clipper on this one good enough to trim beards?
@YMSCanadian - hey, thanks for reviewing this. i just got mine yesterday from future shop in Toronto. when it came to replacing the foil on the shaving head where did you purchase it from? was it exactly like the one that came with the groomer? could you provide a link?
can I use this to shave my face hair... I am looking for something that I can use to shave hair on my face as well as my arm pits, legs, hands and pelvic area... I want just one machine that can do both...Please recommend one...Thanks
@aymanalij - I wouldn't recommend it for your facial hair only because it's main purpose is for your arm pits, and "down there". If you feel comfortable doing that, then by all means give it a shot. Personally I wouldn't go the cheap route. When it comes to my shaving regimen I'm VERY picky. I'm growing my hair back now (on my head) but in this video I was almost bald (I used a clipper/trimmer to do that), for my goatee I just used a regular facial blade shaver and for my junk I used this prod.
@YMSCanadian okay...so should I buy two shavers - one for my face and the other for the rest of my body? Like Philips Norelco 7310XL for my face and this one for my body?
Hey man Im also from Canada I just wanna ask U that is it worth to buy as compare to other products like Braun Bodycruzer Shave (SERIES B30). actually I hv never tried any of this thats y.
@pddesai1 - I've never used the Bodycruzer Shave however I can tell you that my device is still going strong. No problems, no regrets. Worth the money. Hope this helps. :)
yeah deffinitly buy from amazon!!! how close is the shave? is it as good as a razor? I work out alot and have abbs. any way my point is i want a close shave for my chest and abbs and trim down south lol. any way is it a close shave? is it as good as a razor?
Nice review thanks for the advice too! But I heard the shaving head tends to break easily and needs to be replaced often. I'm considering buying this product for body hair (mostly arms and back) but I'm not too fond of the 3mm trimmer head... I'm tempted by the Philips QT4022/32 which is a hair trimmer that reaches 0.5mm. Mostly the same price but no shaver. :/
@greob - I would think that as with any other product, as long you exercise care and due diligence, you should be fine. I think it's of good quality. I've had it now for quite some time. Mind you, I'm VERY careful of how I take care of my stuff. So...that's another thing to think about. I've NEVER used it in the shower, even though they say it's water proof. That's just my paranoia kicking in. LOL. I'll probably try it in the shower next year so that I can at least get 1 years worth of usage.
@T3XeNoN - Nothing. I still get the occasional irritation as well. It all comes down to technique. After all, it's merely a tool (the Norelco I mean, not your....well....lol). HOW you use it, makes up 50% of how effective it'll be.
I just used it last night and I managed to nick myself (very slightly) but to the point where I saw a pindrop's worth of blood. Nothing big, but still.....technique. Hang in there, you'll get it sooner or later. You may want to check out some shaving forums as well.
@T3XeNoN - I know there are some oils & talcs to help shave your hairs, be it facial or body. A great technique I Iike to use is a hot towel on the area that needs to be shaved (although I only do this for my face not down there, but I'm assumin git would work as well). The hot towel softens your hairs, and when you shave it, there's less irritation. Go to the eHOW website and search "How to Use Hot Towels to Prepare Men's Skin". It'll be the first hit. Great info!
Thanks muchly for the review. I would like to point out that there is something about the way you present yourself combined with the relative silence of your surroundings that made the video very relaxing. What I'm saying is, I'd definitely watch other product reviews (and possibly other topics as well) if you were to make them. Hope that didn't come off as creepy as it now seems, haha. Also, may I ask for the dimensions of the device? Length, specifically. It looks kinda cumbersome...
@wyattrh LOL, nahhhh not creepy. Dimensions? "Product Dimensions: 3.5 x 6.7 x 9.6 inches ; 8 ounces" as per Amazon.com. NOTE : I did NOT measure the device myself. ;)
@YMSCanadian Wow, I don't know how I freakin' missed those on Amazon's page. My lack of observational prowess astounds at times. Well, sorry you had ta go through the trouble, but thanks anyway. Have a good one.
the trimmer edge, if i had the device and took the trimmer guard off for a stubble look on face how good does it work compared to the trimmer on the trimmer/foil side?? can anyone reply to this?
@Shirasonie - Hmmmm.......tough question. You might want to try something like PVC piping. It's strong enough to hold it in position (I think) but also flexible. I'd suggest you try your local hardware shop.
@patelame I haven't tried Nair for Men, so I really couldn't say. Did my hair grow thicker after using this? Nope! It's the same. I've only charged it twice since I bought it, but my hair doesn't grow that fast so I probably used it like 4 or 5 times in total. I'm VERY satisfied with this product. In my opinion, it's worth the money. It really is.
@shattaD - Personally I'd recommend both. My shaving arsenal (I'm not kidding here....) consists of a trimmer/shaver for my head, Double Edge Safety Razors for my face, the Norelco Bodygroomer for my arm pits, down....THERE!!!!!!, and a nose trimmer. So, yeah....I take grooming quite seriously.
@NurfTakedownLTD - I'm not a huge fan of FutureShop. But, if they had it when I was in the market for it, I would've bought it from there. At that time nobody in Canada seemed to have it. At least, my online search yielded no results so......I bought online. ;)
Thanks for the info very informative, i just bought this very same model a week ago in nyc an dim very satisfied. thanks for the heads up on "ouch" tip.
Thinking of buying this, and possibly taking it travellin with me later this yr. Could u please tell me the dimensions of the shaver and also the aproximate weight if possible? Thanks
@jayzozz -- Hmmmm great question. Unfortunately I don't have an answer for you. Guess I should make my next purchase a measuring tape and a scale. ;) I checked out the Philips website and couldn't find any info. on those two things as well. I'm currently packing up all my gear as I'm moving at the end of June so when everything settles down I'll post the measurements and weight. I know that won't be for a while but I still plan on doing it. Sorry bro.
@MrBairdo25 - LOL....yeah it was one of those lessons I wish I didn't learn the hard way, but hey no sense in crying over spilt milk. Or is there? Hehehe.
@hardstylelover1231 Was just about to post on here about that. I bought this thing yesterday and it is damn good, very powerful and the pivting head is really good. As can be expected, curiosity got the better of me and I tried the downstairs region, namely the balls! I used grade number 1 on the longer hair trimmer and it was going well until, rip! it tore a peice of skin off my balls and they started bleeding! Luckily I am a student nurse and sorted it out quickly!
@ProcyonAlpha So just be very careful if you shave your balls and sorry to sound crude, but make sure that if you try to shave downstars do it when the ballbag is not in a saggy state haha as that is how a bit pf skin got through to the blade.
Just bought mine last night. Interestingly enough, I think it was the last one on amazon.ca. I checked back today and it declared "temporarily out of stock." Lol. I got lucky.
I've bought two Norelco BG2020s in the past few years and had a common issue with both, the detachable foil head would snag (without cutting me) and fall out. This was a persistent issue because the foil head did not seem to stay secured to the head of the device. It seems that this new BG2040 model might not have this problem because of the audible "click" (something the BG2020 doesn't do) that I assume indicates a more tigh hold. I won't know for sure until I get the new model in the mail.
@holywarrior007 If you mean the shaver head I took off at 5:17, all you have to do is literally grasp the metallic part of the head (NOT the black part; that's the housing for the shaver head) and pull straight out. If you mean the shaver head at 6:59, I haven't figured that part out yet myself.
What I would like to know is that can I use shaving cream or gel with this device in-order to remove body hair; as it can be rinsed off under the tap, because otherwise I'll have hair falling all over the place?
@Jamiel4u Sorry for the delay in my response. Not sure if you can use a shaving cream or gel. I personally wouldn't risk it, but if you decide to give it a try, I'd like to know how it turned out. Keep us in the loop.
@shannybaybaaaay Quite effective, in my opinion. Although, it might be hard to reach such a difficult angle. Unless of course you can trick someone into doing it for you. All I know is, if I wanted to do my back I might bribe the Mrs. with a footrub. ;)
@nassah2010 -- I find it does provide a "real clean shave just like with a disposable razor" however.....I also found that using the 3D head also irritated my skin a bit (on my chest), as it left red marks. Weird enough, it didn't seem to bother me down there. Go figure.
@nassah2010 Yeah, it's a great trimmer. I honestly feel it's worth every penny. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't argue if I got it cheaper (LOL) but it's a sound investment if you care about maintaining your body. :)
Personally I haven't used it in the shower, didn't feel comfortable using it in the shower. The thought process there was if anything was to go wrong and the unit got damaged I'm sure they'd basically tell me to fuck off and I'd be out all my money. So...I play it safe. :)
Very nice review, but a few questions. How effective is it at completely removing chest hair? I'm referring to the head portion just to clarify. Would that cause much skin irritation? I currently use a razor and shave gel and the irritation can get quite bad and am looking for an alternative.
@PhilTheBuzz - I'd say it's quite effective at removing chest hair. Personally, I've noticed it does tend to leave my skin a bit red (but I don't sense any pain when this happens). The funny thing is, it doesn't leave me irritated down there.
Very nice review. I've been comptemplating on getting this for a while now but like you said, it's quite expensive. You've had it for a lil while now. Are you still satisfied with it?
@JunBugg211 STILL satisfied.....still totally in love with it! :) Actually, believe it or not I've used it like 3 times and it's STILL on it's first charge. Pretty sweet. ;)
@junkmailoox -- LOL, good eye. Yeah, she's been running strong for like 5 years (I think). I'm just waiting for the bulb to burn out and then wanna replace it with a HD plasma. :)
Thank you very much for the review mate - I`ve had the shaver for around 2 months now and only used it once but wanted to clean under the piveting head but didn`t know how to take it off - The instructions in the booklet are pants for this and i`ve heard of quite a few people actually breaking the head by trying to get it off .
Watching your video made me do it with ease straight away so thanks very much for a clear and fully easy instruction guide
@monkeytown -- I agree with your view on the instructions being lackluster. I was actually afraid that I might break it off as well. Believe it or not, I dedicated a good 10 mins. to trying to figure it out (and in those 10 mins. I was very afraid I would break or crack the device) and when I figured it out, I knew I wouldn't be the only one thinking : How in the hell do I open this thing? LOL. Glad it helped.
@MrRusswarez It's not designed to shave your head, but I suppose you could. Although the question is, would you really want to use the same shaver that you use on your junk & arm pits to be used on your head? ;p
@MrRusswarez -- Well, I can't recommend a product to make your head "bald", per se. While I do appear to have no hair on my head, I assure you I do have some stubble. Personally, I shave my head every week using an Oster clipper. I've had the same Oster clipper for over 10 years (I had the exact same model before my boys were born). Not sure what the model # is, but on the back it says : Service# : 284-61B then underneath that, "LR 4145". It's 0.3 amps / 120 Volts / 60 Hz .
@MrRusswarez Actually, I was just thinking about that question of yours, as I'm looking for replacement blades for my Oster. Apparently, it's now being sold as "NEW OSTER pet dog CLIPPER trimmer veterinarian PRO MAG" on eBay. How degrading. LOL. But anyways, that's the model. I bought it from Zellers back in the day; I guess Vets love it too. LOL. You can't make this stuff up.....*Deep Sigh* Ahhh me.
@MrRusswarez Well, to be perfectly honest...no point in reviewing it. It's a 10+ year old model. They sure don't make them like that anymore though. I think I finally found the replacement blade(s) I'm looking for. Hoping I can get another 10 years out of the unit. :)
awesome review man! really helped me make a decision. just notice that i got it in EU for 47 Euros (incl shipping), that's roughly 60 bucks, so the difference is pretty substantial..
@EvansGRc Yeah, I bought it at the beginning of December so the Christmas sales weren't as plentiful as they are today (Dec.17) PLUS....I had a hard time finding it where they were willing to ship it here in Canada. To be honest, I settled with the first online retailer who was willing to ship it to Canada. I came across a few Ebay items (at a much better price) but they wouldn't ship it to their Northern neighbors. Long story short, I love the item and am happy with the purchase.
@sfshrimp I think I may have accidentally deleted them (not sure)...BUT I do have the e-mail transcript they sent me, so if you send me your email address I'll be more than happy to email it to you.
@dsdsdsdsdsss Thanks for the words of encouragement. I was thinking if all went well then I might start reviewing other items I purchase. I'm firm believer in educated shopping. I'm NOT the guy who just walks into Future Shop or Best Buy and just randomly browse and buy based on impulse. 9 times out of 10 I WILL do my research. The other 1 time? Ehhhh I'm human. ;p
Hey, you made first comment! :) Thanks for the kudos. There were two or three things that I forgot to mention, so I had to do separate videos and then edit them into this video (which is why you'll notice in one or two parts that the video kinda jumps). The last thing I wanted to do was make the video and know that I left some things out that I had made a point of jotting down to talk about in the review. On top of that, my boys were a little put off by dad hogging the basement to himself. LOL
do you know where to get repalcement blades? And how long they usually last? I love mine..works on the junk, the trunk, chest, arms, pits, legs...it rocks

Thinking of buying this, and possibly taking it travellin with me later this yr. Could u please tell me the dimensions of the shaver and also the aproximate weight if possible? Thanks
jayzozz 9 months ago
@jayzozz -- Hmmmm great question. Unfortunately I don't have an answer for you. Guess I should make my next purchase a measuring tape and a scale. ;) I checked out the Philips website and couldn't find any info. on those two things as well. I'm currently packing up all my gear as I'm moving at the end of June so when everything settles down I'll post the measurements and weight. I know that won't be for a while but I still plan on doing it. Sorry bro.
YMSCanadian 9 months ago
@jayzozz Product dimensions are 3.5 x 6.7 x 9.6 inches ; 8 ounces according to Amazon.

i am just gonna say , dude does it hurt when i shave my balls with this thing?
hardstylelover1231 9 months ago
@hardstylelover1231 Was just about to post on here about that. I bought this thing yesterday and it is damn good, very powerful and the pivting head is really good. As can be expected, curiosity got the better of me and I tried the downstairs region, namely the balls! I used grade number 1 on the longer hair trimmer and it was going well until, rip! it tore a peice of skin off my balls and they started bleeding! Luckily I am a student nurse and sorted it out quickly!
ProcyonAlpha 9 months ago
@ProcyonAlpha So just be very careful if you shave your balls and sorry to sound crude, but make sure that if you try to shave downstars do it when the ballbag is not in a saggy state haha as that is how a bit pf skin got through to the blade.
ProcyonAlpha 9 months ago
Just bought mine last night. Interestingly enough, I think it was the last one on amazon.ca. I checked back today and it declared "temporarily out of stock." Lol. I got lucky.
imposibru 9 months ago
I've bought two Norelco BG2020s in the past few years and had a common issue with both, the detachable foil head would snag (without cutting me) and fall out. This was a persistent issue because the foil head did not seem to stay secured to the head of the device. It seems that this new BG2040 model might not have this problem because of the audible "click" (something the BG2020 doesn't do) that I assume indicates a more tigh hold. I won't know for sure until I get the new model in the mail.

simpsondan 10 months ago
@simpsondan You could I guess, but I wouldn't recommend it. It wasn't intended for that. But, I guess a shaver is a shaver.
YMSCanadian 10 months ago
@holywarrior007 If you mean the shaver head I took off at 5:17, all you have to do is literally grasp the metallic part of the head (NOT the black part; that's the housing for the shaver head) and pull straight out. If you mean the shaver head at 6:59, I haven't figured that part out yet myself.

What I would like to know is that can I use shaving cream or gel with this device in-order to remove body hair; as it can be rinsed off under the tap, because otherwise I'll have hair falling all over the place?
Jamiel4u 1 year ago
@Jamiel4u Sorry for the delay in my response. Not sure if you can use a shaving cream or gel. I personally wouldn't risk it, but if you decide to give it a try, I'd like to know how it turned out. Keep us in the loop.

how effective would this model be at shaving the entire back?
shannybaybaaaay 1 year ago
@shannybaybaaaay Quite effective, in my opinion. Although, it might be hard to reach such a difficult angle. Unless of course you can trick someone into doing it for you. All I know is, if I wanted to do my back I might bribe the Mrs. with a footrub. ;)

so does the 3d head give a real clean shave just like with a disposable razor?
thankx
nassah2010 1 year ago
@nassah2010 -- I find it does provide a "real clean shave just like with a disposable razor" however.....I also found that using the 3D head also irritated my skin a bit (on my chest), as it left red marks. Weird enough, it didn't seem to bother me down there. Go figure.
YMSCanadian 1 year ago
@YMSCanadian
yo dude had it for like a month nearly i agree its a realy close shave wit the 3d foil impressive actually.
the trimmer is not that powerfull but you have 50 mins which is enough so you can take your time.
in the shower the trimmer isn't great infact a bit annoying :/
but oveall glad i bought it. and glad i saw your clip
thanks :)
nassah2010 1 year ago
@nassah2010 Yeah, it's a great trimmer. I honestly feel it's worth every penny. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't argue if I got it cheaper (LOL) but it's a sound investment if you care about maintaining your body. :)
Personally I haven't used it in the shower, didn't feel comfortable using it in the shower. The thought process there was if anything was to go wrong and the unit got damaged I'm sure they'd basically tell me to fuck off and I'd be out all my money. So...I play it safe. :)
YMSCanadian 1 year ago
Very nice review, but a few questions. How effective is it at completely removing chest hair? I'm referring to the head portion just to clarify. Would that cause much skin irritation? I currently use a razor and shave gel and the irritation can get quite bad and am looking for an alternative.
PhilTheBuzz 1 year ago
@PhilTheBuzz - I'd say it's quite effective at removing chest hair. Personally, I've noticed it does tend to leave my skin a bit red (but I don't sense any pain when this happens). The funny thing is, it doesn't leave me irritated down there.
YMSCanadian 1 year ago
Very nice review. I've been comptemplating on getting this for a while now but like you said, it's quite expensive. You've had it for a lil while now. Are you still satisfied with it?
JunBugg211 1 year ago
@JunBugg211 STILL satisfied.....still totally in love with it! :) Actually, believe it or not I've used it like 3 times and it's STILL on it's first charge. Pretty sweet. ;)

Ps Happy Christmas to you and yours - Jonny
monkeytown 1 year ago
@monkeytown -- I agree with your view on the instructions being lackluster. I was actually afraid that I might break it off as well. Believe it or not, I dedicated a good 10 mins. to trying to figure it out (and in those 10 mins. I was very afraid I would break or crack the device) and when I figured it out, I knew I wouldn't be the only one thinking : How in the hell do I open this thing? LOL. Glad it helped.

Nice review.
Is it possible to shave a head with it?...
MrRusswarez 1 year ago
@MrRusswarez It's not designed to shave your head, but I suppose you could. Although the question is, would you really want to use the same shaver that you use on your junk & arm pits to be used on your head? ;p
YMSCanadian 1 year ago
@YMSCanadian
Did you tried to shave your head with Philips Norelco?...
MrRusswarez 1 year ago
@MrRusswarez -- Dear God NO. I've got another shaver for that purpose. I wouldn't recommend it either.
YMSCanadian 1 year ago
@YMSCanadian
Which shaver would you recommend?...
I want shiny bald head. =-))
MrRusswarez 1 year ago
@MrRusswarez -- Well, I can't recommend a product to make your head "bald", per se. While I do appear to have no hair on my head, I assure you I do have some stubble. Personally, I shave my head every week using an Oster clipper. I've had the same Oster clipper for over 10 years (I had the exact same model before my boys were born). Not sure what the model # is, but on the back it says : Service# : 284-61B then underneath that, "LR 4145". It's 0.3 amps / 120 Volts / 60 Hz .
YMSCanadian 1 year ago
@MrRusswarez Actually, I was just thinking about that question of yours, as I'm looking for replacement blades for my Oster. Apparently, it's now being sold as "NEW OSTER pet dog CLIPPER trimmer veterinarian PRO MAG" on eBay. How degrading. LOL. But anyways, that's the model. I bought it from Zellers back in the day; I guess Vets love it too. LOL. You can't make this stuff up.....*Deep Sigh* Ahhh me.
YMSCanadian 11 months ago
@YMSCanadian "NEW OSTER pet dog CLIPPER trimmer veterinarian PRO MAG" OMG =O What about review? =)
MrRusswarez 11 months ago
@MrRusswarez Well, to be perfectly honest...no point in reviewing it. It's a 10+ year old model. They sure don't make them like that anymore though. I think I finally found the replacement blade(s) I'm looking for. Hoping I can get another 10 years out of the unit. :)
YMSCanadian 11 months ago
@YMSCanadian Maybe even 15 years. The name is very durable. =)

awesome review man! really helped me make a decision. just notice that i got it in EU for 47 Euros (incl shipping), that's roughly 60 bucks, so the difference is pretty substantial..
EvansGRc 1 year ago
@EvansGRc Yeah, I bought it at the beginning of December so the Christmas sales weren't as plentiful as they are today (Dec.17) PLUS....I had a hard time finding it where they were willing to ship it here in Canada. To be honest, I settled with the first online retailer who was willing to ship it to Canada. I came across a few Ebay items (at a much better price) but they wouldn't ship it to their Northern neighbors. Long story short, I love the item and am happy with the purchase.
YMSCanadian 1 year ago
@EvansGRc Where did you find it so cheap? In Switzerland, the cost in the supermarkets currently is 129 CHF, that is about 100 EUR...

LOL
