9 News used to be so cool in that they had news at 4PM. Now, tell me if I'm wrong, its WRC TV News 4 that has the 4PM broadcast and WUSA9 is the one with 7PM local news after the CBS Evening News. In the 1990's CBS Evening News was on at 7PM with only ABC having ABC News at 6:30 with NBC and CBS on local news.
Does anyone know if the closing credits for WUSA with the real time helicopter shots of the Mall and monuments at night from the late 80s (1987-88) is posted if at all? It was the best closing credits I have ever seen.
I remember that CGI "helicopter over DC" shot opening Channel 9's newscasts when I first moved to the DC area in early 1989. I lived there long enough to see it finally be dropped in favor of a much less interesting one before moving to NYC in 1996. Thanks for sharing!
Mike Buchannan and Andrea Roane. I was eight in 1989. Andrea Roane is still doing it. I watch her in the mornings before I go to work. I am 29 now.

I remember them both! I wonder who the announcer was; anyone know?

The announcer is the fantastic Mike Lewis, was the voice of channel 9 for 20 years, also can be heard on WABC.
