It's "Fake Red Shoes." Your guess is as good as mine as to why it's called that.

Something to do with the Wizard of Oz, probably. Remember, the red shoes allowed you to go home. It could be implying that Virgilia (at the time of this fight) was misleading Battler. He needed to be shown that this was "fake" in order to find out the "truth," or some shit.

I still think this would be appropriate if ZUN and R07 ever collaborated and made Virgilia a boss in a danmaku.

Uh, I'm sorry to talk back, but since "akai" means red, "tsuku" means "to transform" or "to dye" in this case, and the last kanji is read as "itsuwari", which means a lie... Moreover, I wasn't guessing, since I know Japanese pretty well. ': D I can't deny, though, that "Fake Red Shoes" would sound real nice, especially with shunkwugga's explanation.

I'll take your word for it, since I don't know Japanese. The only reason why I thought it was "Fake Red Shoes" was because I'd seen everyone else refer to it that way. And, to be honest, "A lie that is dying red" makes a little more sense in the context of the game than "Fake Red Shoes."

it's くつ, not つく. I'm pretty sure くつ means shoes, as there's nothing else I can think of with that pronunciation, and "kutsu" is usually written in hiragana anyway, right?

I stuck Tsuku in Wiktionary, and it gives me multiple kanji readings. The first one can be read as "to be attached".

Then I stuck the final kanji in Wiktionary as well, but it seems to be read as Itsuwaru and can mean "disguise" but it didn't help. So I stuck it in Google Translate and it comes out as Fake.

Well... from Tsuku I got Take.

From Akai Tsuku I got Fall Red Color.

And from Akai Tsuku "Itsuwaru" I got "Tell fake red color."
