You know ... When this New School I guess called music today gets as old as what were listening to now only the [ignorant] will praise it . Phonograph [Sound] Forever
A commenter a couple years ago said the concert didn't do well but that's the furthest thing from the truth. The concert was a smashing success as it was the Marvin Gaye Day concert that he did at his homecoming in D.C.
This is raw business. I mean its a real reality piece from brother to brother. Coming home and going in the hood and wanting to know exactly "what's been up brother", give me the bizness, who what where since I've been gone. this is the bomb
its not funky music you fucker. this is the life of a black nam veteran comming back with less that what he left with. this the one thing that cant be taken from us i guess.
I bought the re-issue of What's Going On about 3 years ago. Can't really remember where I bought it but probably at Sam Goody. It's a 3 CD set that has What's Going On in it's official release. Some of the B-Side single versions and alternative versions and another CD of the concert. Because it was his first in years it didn't go well What's Happin was one of the only ones that came out perfectly others he performed more than once.
i actually checked up on it, yea, it's from the re-issue of the album..this was the 1st show he did in 4 yrs(72) @ the kennedy center..he ended up doing the whole entire album live...to basically find this re-issue is hard b/c it's discontinued..the only places you'd really find it, is e-bay..either way, thanks for the upload
@roycebirth yes it is. From the deluxe edition of What's Goin on. It is a live performance of the album plus a 60's medly of songs. The only song they didnt perform was "Mercy Mercy Me" I dont know why. But the show is great. And it features James Jamerson on bass unlike other recorded Marvin Gaye concerts.
Thank you for the music Marvin. You have no idea how you get me through the days.
