The reason that there are similar characters in both companies games is because the main creators of the original Streetfighter game (1987) Takeshi Nishimura (Piston Takeshi/T.Nishimura in end credits) & Hiroshi Matsumoto both moved to develop games for SNK after the original SF was completed.
Essentially Ryu, Ken & the rest of the original cast were originally their designs.

Unlike SF fanboys, KOF have an excuse for being so defensive: not only has SNK went through bankruptcy and are forced to to whore out their franchises in pachislots and dating games to even subsist. Combined with the recent flop of XII, any failure now could kill off SNK for good. Seeing how many OUTSTANDING franchises they have yet to complete, SNK's disappearance is one of the worst things to happen to the fighting game world.

KOF begun as a manga. KOF manga was around when SF was a video arcade game, the manga wasn't that known at the time, and mangas weren't interesting enough outside Japan. Street fighter ripped off a lot of stuff from Fatal Furry, n KOF has a better n more complex fighting system then Street Fighter, play KOF 99 or 2000, and the new KOF 13 is way better then Super Street Fighter 4

SNK innovates too, they make unique versions of grapplers (Shermie and Mature), kick fighters (King and Kim), counter fighters (Geese and Kasumi), and charge players (Ralph and Leona). Team fighting? SNK. Rolls and high jumps? SNK. RUNNING (So much better than dashing)? SNK. Knock downs? SNK. Fireball reflecting, teleports, max supers, and diverse female characters? SNK. Maybe you didn't understand me clearly below when I said I don't really call KOF a ripoff besides having some obvious ripoff characters and the original characters from SNK overshadows them by miles. I played them both since I was a kid so to me, both Capcom and SNK are a class of their own.

Unlike SF fanboys, KOF have an excuse for being so defensive: not only has SNK went through bankruptcy and are forced to to whore out their franchises in pachislots and dating games to even subsist. Combined with the recent flop of XII, any failure now could kill off SNK for good. Seeing how many OUTSTANDING franchises they have yet to complete, SNK's disappearance is one of the worst things to happen to the fighting game world.

what up free1up. I see u like fighting games but i dont understand why u're trying to diss KOF. Seems 2 me, u only wanna play Street fighter since its the original and more poplular. U must enjoy the small roster street fighter gives you per-game and half of them are Shotos(ryu,ken,akuma,dan,sagat,gouken). Or the fact you get 3 moves per-character(fireball,uppercut,spin-kicks). All i gotta say is Try KOF again not KOF12(XII) any FROM 98-98UM,2002-2002UM,XI(11) Those are best from the series.

KOF begun as a manga. KOF manga was around when SF was a video arcade game, the manga wasn't that known at the time, and mangas weren't interesting enough outside Japan. If you need to consider everything as a rip-off, you're gonna be sucking some huge monkey balls ! Street fighter copied another game down to the last character, and they kept at it, that's all. Street fighter ripped off a lot of stuff from Fatal Furry, n KOF has a better n more complex fighting system then Street Fighter, play KOF 99 or 2000, and the new KOF 13 is way better then Super Street Fighter 4

@lilloco562 correction they both rip off from each other. As a matter of fact many of the guys that made Fatal Fury also in the past made Street Fighter. Which was there first experience with a fighting game. Some even go way back Karate Champ.
I bet you didn't even know that many employers move from working with Capcom to SNK. To SNK back to Capcom.
KOF is better than SF is nothing more than just a opinion. The fact is SF sold more than KOF. Personally I want a new IP from both Capcom & SNK.

SNK innovates too, they make unique versions of grapplers (Shermie and Mature), kick fighters (King and Kim), counter fighters (Geese and Kasumi), and charge players (Ralph and Leona). Team fighting? SNK. Rolls and high jumps? SNK. RUNNING (So much better than dashing)? SNK. Knock downs? SNK. Fireball reflecting, teleports, max supers, and diverse female characters? SNK. I know you are kidding man, lol, but I do meet a lot of people who do hate on the series, so I'm just making a few points.

Iori is a rock star. he plays in a famous band in the KoF universe as a bass player.
Capcom and SNK have ripped one another off and even shared workers. Capcom's most famous artist, Falcoon switched over from Capcom to SNK for KoF. Also I think you may be color blind, Iori's hair is red...

You mean Heavyweight champ? Yea that came out first and died just as fast. Street Fighter provided the template for future fighting games much like how old games like Karate Champ and Yie Ar Kung Fu gave the same to the latter .
Hell, even the makers of KOF itself were former employees of Capcom's Street Fighter so that says alot about KOF in general.

@DevinHades Not the full staff of KOF came from SF employees. The ideas for KOF are pure from SNK. KOF invents the first team gameplay, promotes canceling and not to say KOF 94 is pure SNK made... Still, having SF and KOF ripping off each other doesn't make any sense in deciding which is a better game.
