  • come on people, quit whining about political stuff and bickering over engine types and the like. it's mythbusters, it's nerdy, and it's awesome.

  • It's an experiment... People need to stop whining about politics. If Jamie wants to make something because it interests him, it's not going to hurt you. Shove your fingers in your ears and yell "LALALALALA" til they start "shootin guns" and "blowin stuff up."

  • I like mythbusters, but I hate when they slip in the liberal go green biased. They didn't address distance (recharge vs unlimited), COST, weight, top speed. Beyond the facts you have the simple feel. That ferrari is what children dream of and adults wet themselves hearing. It's also a pure lie that 1 electric car takes 4 off the road. It's 1 for 1.

  • 1:13 Fail xD

  • hydrogen is the way to go

  • as much as i like electric cars and sure, there is one thing I have to admit: they can be far more dangerous to the environment because on their lithium ion battery packs. secondly, during the production of these batteries huge amounts of energy in all sorts of forms are spent, which results in a total co2 emission the equivalent of that ofd your average car. this also applies to the toyota prius, which is about as polluting (production + usage) as the average american car.

  • how long does the battery last

  • I would never buy one. Go through a puddle and short out the engine. Plus it sounds retarded.

  • @Rlnthndr You sir, are stuck into the middle age.

Being everything insulated, it cannot short out.

Plus, an gasoline engine needs air to run, and unless you have a big ass snorkel you can't go in a 1meter deep puddle, while the electric can go as deep as you can.

  • the electric is just straight power weras the gas has to build up the power

  • im pretty sure i saw an ariel atom

  • well for me I would be a lil sarcastic about this. I want to see this redone with Jamie and Adam riding both, let alone how long both can run.

  • The big problem with electric to gas when it comes to an ATV is that I can carry a second tanks worth of fuel in a jerry can when on deeper wood trips. I'm not sure where I'm gonna stick the thermo-nuclear or coal fire electric plant to recharge those batteries. Sure Solar would be cool, but its just not practical at its current capacity. One day hopefully electric WILL replace gasoline, because fuel out of the equation electric always out-performs. Just look at the new HEMTT trucks!

  • 2:18 Definitely a Sontarin.

  • whats sontarin?

  • those results can't accurate because it could also depend on the waight on the person and how good there driving skills are

  • @2:07 omg what happen to Grant!?

  • @WhiteKnighT161 THAT'S NOT GRANT!!!

  • i love playing atv its fun!

  • Who the fuck wants a green ATV? They are for fun!

  • a green ATV would be good because you can go faster. Isn't the main cause for a vehicle its SPEED? Also, you can be environmentally friendly while rocking out.

  • Well, I want to see these two ATVs on a straight path before I say one is faster than the other. I would much rather use a gas ATV. Running out of juice in the middle of nowhere is never fun, and I bet the gas one has a longer range.

  • no, the main cause is for muddin

  • and they're quieter than an ATV so that you can sneak up on game

  • I'd take the electric every time, its faster, lighter and doesnt need expensive gas..

  • yea it just uses all that free electricity we have lying around

  • Exactly!

  • I hope for your sake that your are being sarcastic

  • Fortunately, i am sarcastic.

  • Yeah. The sun.

  • are you aware of the physical and timescale it would take to make a solar panel which would charge the batteries this uses?

you'd create more pollution manufacturing the solar panel, plus it would take weeks to charge between uses

Id rather refuel, takes 5 minutes and I save several thousand ounds on the solar panel I didnt buy

  • Though if you were to power your home with one, you can sell the gathered electricity back to the electric company and regain your money.

  • @DeltaPhi79 if your home produces more than is needed then yes the electric company has to buy whatever you dont use

  • For road vehicles, though, gas is still almost a neccesity, because of range. Look at ANY pure electric car (not hybrid), and you will find it has less than 250 miles range on a charge. They also measure the range under ideal conditions: no mountain range to cross, no undue traffic delays, no strong headwinds, not even 4 fat passengers. For in town driving electric may work. But if you live in Charlotte, and want to visit Granny in Philly, you need 3 days for a 1 day trip, due to charging.

  • There's new technology in the works (by MIT if i recall) that will cut charging times for pure EVs down to ~20 minutes... So all you'd need then is a nice lunch stop with a plug at every spot.

  • First time I've seen Jamie without his beret. :D

  • Sounds just like a warthog from halo

  • Well, I would have to say it "could" be the driver that could be making the difference. I would recommend Jamie drive the gas and Adam drive the battery version.

  • They need to add a little weight to it to keep from tipping over so easily.

  • lol Love that one... please more on this subject ;)

  • electric cars and other motorized vehicles are the so called solution. yes they do not themselfs produce air pollution but he powerplants do. they might produce less then the vehicles but no one seems to see that the vehicles in order to produce enough power to drive need a whole load of batteries in them. batteries that will not last in strenght for many years. imagine every 3 years all cars and atvs more or less need to replacethe batteries. thats a lot of chemicals acid and heavy metals .

  • Hello, Hair dryers use more energy to operate for the length of time that they are used Than it takes to charge most smaller EV drive units , Now if you weigh the importance of drying hair or transportation to work. I believe Transportation would prevail . I am not saying a woman should not do her hair but if you look at all the devices you posses That consume energy i think you will realize that Charging your EV is not very burdening on your Electric bill.Weigh the pro's & cons.

  • So are you saying that a hairdryer uses more power per day in the hands of the average user than a small EV uses for each recharge? So are you saying that (lets say) 15min of hairdryer use = 1 EV recharge? What kind of EV are you talking about? An RC Car? There is no way you are going to recharge several hundred laptop batteries with the power used by a hair dryer in 15min. The fact that a hairdryer might use more joules / min of use V the recharger is an irrelevant point.

  • doesnt this depend on which is a better driver more then on the "car" since its not a straight line they driving and testing speed

  • the electric one has to be a sportsman dream in the woods

  • @thesamenamegame Not really, you will run out of energy really fast, no battery can hold that much energy in such a small place as gasoline, therefore to have the same mobility the electric one would have to have some pretty heavy batteries, the problem is a source of electricity better than batteries otherwise these motors fucking rule!

  • And to add to this, it takes a minute or so to refill a gas tank and how many hours does it take to recharge a battery set like this?

Even if you had a spare set on charge it would not be enough for the serious rider.

  • lmaooo the start was funny!!!

they shoulda had the same driver just to get rid of the variables

  • ya knoww... it also depends on who is riding the atv, it should of been the same guy because one guy can be better than another. Heck that one guy couldnt even make it go foward on the the first try :O

  • I was at the filming of this, it was very neat. I got to meet them in person they're very awesome. :D Jamie kinda had a cold shoulder but was nice and Adam was very excited. I'm up on the booth area at :53 in the upper left of the screen. If you ever have the opportunity to meet these guys, do it. You won't regret it. ;)

  • @Kazesane How did you pull that off? I would love to meet those guys.

  • @Kazesane go fig; the Hyneman is part walrus and immortal. he is very wise because of this.

  • of course electric is faster because doesnt require the combustion of gas. Sometimes gas engines stalls (or lag time) because the fuel needs to be ignited then burned and frequently engine holes becomes dirty from the combustion which reduces in efficiency. But the problem is most people would still prefer gas right now rather than electric. Gas you can get it anywhere, charging a electric car is not so easy and electric is expensive.

  • to shorten your trail of thought..you're partialy right but still wrong

an electric motor is faster beacause it has a perfect power to torque ratio...a regular engine looses power when it tries to get it to the wheels through the transmision and power train...

an electric motor prettymuch sends the power streight to the wheels with use of nearly all the torque and evenly

the only difference is, the electric motor will peak out realy quick..the fastest commertial motor can only do like, 120mph

  • lol wtf? first of all, the electric is faster because it has more torque.

second of all, electricity is NOT more expensive than gasoline. infact, its atleast more than 10 times cheaper than gasoline...where do you get your facts?

  • rtsoccer dont judge me yet before you even think logically. Where does electricity come from? Electricity doest just pop out from the Earth like oil do. Electricity is generated through natural resources, nuclear power plants, and other forms of energy converting it to electricity. The process of converting those into electricity is much more expensive than refining oil.

  • For example, nuke power plants. The time it takes for finding uranium and plutonium is much more expensive and costly than finding oil because the equipments is expensive for finding these rare substances. Second, nuclear power plants comes at a cost. Building the plant and everything and maintaining it uses much more resources than maintaining an oil rig/refinery. Electricity is transformed by converting other natural resources, where gas is only made from oil. Ever heard of "laws of dynamics"?

  • thirdly rts, converting other resources into electricity often causes natural problems. Building dam (destroying niches) is a heavy cost. And often it takes tons of resources to make electricity because conversions of resources is a wasteful of energy resulting a loss in the form of heat which these thermal could have been "potential electric energy".

  • if u didint even understand the simple logic then an another example will do. Nuke power plants are costly. Why? Building nuke power plants to make electric energy you need a location that is away from populace and a suitable location for it (hard to find than oil). Second, nuke plants risks meltdown (possibility). Third, the waste material in nuke plants needs to go somewhere, often the waste gets refined but a lot of it is dumped and radioactive materials isnt very healthy.

  • i didn't say nuke power plants are good. lol...i don't really want to waste my time arguing over the internet. all i'm going to say is that it costs $200 a year to fuel an electric CAR. and if you supplied your own solar or wind energy, you would basically be driving around for free while emiting zero polution

  • dude all those are cost of manufacturing electricity. Dont think inside the box rts and think outside. The cost isnt just making electric from the plant it is cost as a whole. YOu only think electricity is cheap because gas prices are high and that thinking is wrong. Govt makes electric cheap to purchase since everyone uses it, gas prices are high because of oil embargos from Middle East and price markers from Exon, Mobile, Esso, etc.

  • why are you bringing up nuclear energy? hydro and coal are the most common powr plants across the country and world. yeah they might be alot worse for the environment, for now, i would love to see anybody show me plutonium or oil cheaper than good old american WV coal!!

also huge props to jamie for making an electric atv, you rock man!

  • why am i bringing up nuke energy? Buddy US have several nucleur power plants running. USA is known for energy suckers, coal in hydro doesnt support. Second if you US can produce energy as you said it, they wouldnt need to buy natural gas and hydro electricity from my country (Canada).

  • Interestingly, power plants actually pollute less than the equivalent number of cars. It seems counter-intuitive, but remember that when pollution has say 1 source in an area, it is comparatively easy to "cap" and mitigate the pollution emitted, because you only need to do it once, just larger. Each and every car would have to have equivalent anti-pollution measures to measure up. It's called non-point-source pollution. All the transport and drilling factors apply to gas as well as electricity.

  • power plants only produce less pollution because there is only 1. Cars are millions. Proportion is 1 to 1 mill. Obviously cars produce more.

  • Hello, The gas engine is operating a non lagging belt drive system and transfers power very well through an infinitely variable range drive system and the engine is a pretty clean engine as far as ATV four strokes go and at the cost of about .40 cents you can charge the batteries completely , And furthermore it is no more difficult to charge an Electric Vehicle than to charge your cell phone. These are the facts I do it daily.

  • this is amazing

  • want that electric 4-wheeler

  • from wich episode is this a take- out ?

  • I don't think it's from an episode - it's probably of the webpage. The often have small clips they don't have time for in the episode, so they post them on their site.

  • jamie's a boss and i love the environmental aspect of it
