America during WWII sent via lend-lease many Packards, an earlier design, then when Packard went bankrupt, Russia bought the dies, and what resulted was the Chaika. Look up Packard in the 50's, see the similarites. The rear end looks for all the world like a 50's Buick. I suspect that the Russians modified the dies (familiar with stamping?) I'll bet they bought the presses along with the tooling.
