The Bible isn't a "book", it's an anthology. A collection of works joined in a single binding. However, the list of books NOT included in this anthology actually far outweighs the books that ARE. And depending on which Bible you use, this collection changes. Some Bibles have more books, some less, some change the placement, and some works aren't included in any current Bibles. Moreover, there are lost works that should be in the Bible, but obviously aren't.

The passages in the bible int he New testament were written years and in the case of a few passages centuries after the event occurred. Also there is historical evidence that Jesus ever existed or did any of the acts said in the bible. Not to mention there is No historical evidence that Jews were ever Slaves of Egyptians. And look at 1 Samuel 15:2-3 or Jeremiah 50:21-22 which promotes Genocide.

The last great phase of the dinosaurs was dominated by smaller, and possibly warm- blooded and feathered Raptor species. Most atheists are tolerant of people who are religious, but not really the religions themselves. Yes, the problem with the Bible is that it's too unrealistic. Modern fiction is much better in not violating modern scientific facts. The Bible is outplayed in this respect. Even Harry Potter is more realistic.

The passages in the bible int he New testament were written years and in the case of a few passages centuries after the event occurred. Also there is historical evidence that Jesus ever existed or did any of the acts said in the bible. Not to mention there is No historical evidence that Jews were ever Slaves of Egyptians. And look at 1 Samuel 15:2-3 or Jeremiah 50:21-22 which promotes Genocide.

The last great phase of the dinosaurs was dominated by smaller, and possibly warm- blooded and feathered Raptor species. Mammals had already been sharing their world with dinosaurs for millions of years. Palaeontology had known this for many years. I have known this for 35 years. To think that there are people out there that believe the distance from Paris to London is 17cms is astounding.

Religion does a huge disservice to science, even calling it wrong when religion has not proven their God...ever. But the values and morals of which it teach are just as important 2000 years ago as they are today. People have the right to believe what they want but no one has the right to force someone to believe something.

That is what I am getting at. If the world NEVER had religion, people would practically be running wild because no moral laws would be set for ourselves. yes there would be governmental laws, but there are some things we morally choose to do. But how DID life start? the big bang isn't proven, is that bullshit?

You also seem to forget that MOST of the Bible is completley barbaric, according to the Bible its evil to wear clothes of more than one material. According to the bible, rape is okay so long as you marry the woman afterwards. So no, without religion I think we would do a lot better. Morality is subjective not objective.

How exactly did everything begin? I'm not saying that god did it, but lets just pretend. How did time come to be? Is there any proof saying that god DIDN'T do it? is there any proof saying that the big bang did it?

Most atheists are tolerant of people who are religious, but not really the religions themselves. There's a few who are just going to be dicks no matter what (there's a few dicks in every group), but religious people who keep to themselves and don't press their beliefs on others get treated the same as anyone.
The religions on the other hand have long, often bloody, disgusting, and shameful histories, and for that reason the religions themselves are often not respected.

Yes, the problem with the Bible is that it's too unrealistic. Modern fiction is much better in not violating modern scientific facts. The Bible is outplayed in this respect. Even Harry Potter is more realistic.
But the Bible is a great evidence on how people used myths and blown up stories to entertain themselves and enable a moral standard before legal systems existed.

The other one was a guy who makes more jokes than a monkey doing stand-up and after I made a comment about all religion being bullshit he became offended. He said, "That offends me, I'm uber-religious."
I don't know much about any particular set of religious beliefs but I do know that anyone who claims to be THAT religious should be enlightened enough not to be offended by some guy they work with who doesn't believe what they do. How secure about your religion can you be to get so defensive?

It amazes me ppl follow organized religion. It makes me feel very lucky & comparatively very intelligent when I meet people who believe in a christ figure who is god, but it still blows me away.
This week I learned that 2 people @ work are jesus-freaks. One I asked to explain why she believed jesus died for sins and what that really meant. She had no answer only repeated that I wasn't going to change her mind. I wanted her to enlighten me and her only response was in defense of blind faith.
