Usted no está solo
  • one word.....WOW ! ! !

  • 3:42 YouTube video: Dave Brubeck and Al Jarreau perform together for the first time, playing the Paul Desmond composition "Take Five." Broadcast in late December 1997.

March 12, 1940: birth of Al Jarreau, American singer; seven-time Grammy Award winner.

  • My father always said beware of civilians that wear berets.

  • Outstanding rendition from performers of two differant generations

  • วินาทีที่ 1.49 มียึงงึ้อเงื้ยก้วย

Oh, though I'm going out of my way Just so I can pass by each day not a single word do we say It's a pantomine, I'm out of time. Still I know our eyes often meet, I feel tingles down to my feet, When you smile, that's much too discreet. Sends me on my way.
  • scatman J

  • Outstanding!!

  • perfect

    grah

  • Awesome!!!

  • I love Brubecks expression, you can tell he lives to perform.

  • Why?

  • !!! EXTRAORDINARY !!! CHAPEAU !!! PIGMENTO

  • What is the name of what he does from 1:48-1:57

  • i don't understand who r those 22 ppl that didn't like this video?? it's great...

  • @tishok25 ppl who don't know shit?

  • I'm old Bruebeck rokc s and this makes me feel young

  • It's a shame that a timeless classic (take 5) got ruined by a guy singing on top of it.

  • The twenty people who dislike this video are twits.

  • Jarreau COULD sing, many years ago. On his first album ( circa 1965) he could scat and sing ballads with equal ease. It's been many years, however, since Jarreau could really sing. If he attempts a straight legato line or any sustained phrase, he wobbles. Jarreau can still make rather unpleasant noises (always squally and nasal) on pitch. But compare Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Joe Williams and Mel Torme at their respective bests, all of whom could SING as well as scat.

  • @stevevandien FYI: Al Jarreau didn't make his first album until 1975 which is called We Got By.

  • @joie30303 NOT so. He made an album in the mid-1960s. I know, because I used to have it:). It was Jarreau at his ABSOLUTE best. Just him and piano accompaniment. Fantastic versions of "Sophisticated Lady" and "My Favorite Things," among other tunes. The album was made via a very small recording outfit in Iowa, while Al was in graduate school and also working small clubs there. Unfortunately, I left this wonderful album in the clutches of a girlfriend who dumped me 25 years ago:) --

  • @stevevandien I'll give you the benefit of the doubt on this one as I wasn't even born when it was released.LOL I must admit that this mid-sixties album sounds very intriguing, though for the record I think Mr Jarreau is still awesome so we will have to agree to disagree on our opinions.;-) BTW, do you recall the name of it? Maybe I can track it down. I'm a vocalist and musician so I have lots of jazz mad musician friends with very extensive collections. Let me know if and when you remember it.

  • @joie30303 I'm pretty sure it was called simply "Al Jarreau '65." As far as I can tell from my research, it was never issued on CD. I was probably too hard on Jarreau, my fellow Milwaukeean:). I do like most of his work from this album up through 70s; just don't think he's been as good since. If you have access to a HalfPrice Books store, you might check that out. Amazing the albums one can find there sometimes:). Also, will keep searching and let you know if I find it. Best, Steve

  • Beautiful - two of my favorites together again for the first time. Brubeck seemed to really enjoy Jarreau's singing. Who's the drummer? He's excellent!

  • Classic!!!!

  • cool but dont matches the flow of the original

  • it sounds weird with words

  • So ORIGINAL!

  • this is simply beautiful!

  • JAZZY! :P

  • Where can I find the lyrics to this song? :^ )

  • I saw Brubeck live at the old Pacific Ampitheater in Costa Mesa, Calif. back in 1986 or '87 in concert with Dizzy Gillespie and Stan Getz. How's that for a trio?

  • INCREDIBLE!!!

  • Brilliant!

  • Amazing!!!!

  • Al scating skills is the best I've heard... The only male that comes remotely close to his scatting skill is Stokley Williams of Mint condition. but Al's voice is clear as day!!!

  • Have never seen or heard this version before. Thanks for posting! Magnificent!!!

  • Ya know---it took such a long time for me to know the title of this song, Take Five----I first heard it playing on a local news program presenting community events....didn't know the song was around for so long! Always liked it---liked what you said ssgsoja :)

  • Does Larry King know that he's dead?

  • @BearHogan lmao

  • amazing

  • what else.... a SINGLE MOMENT

  • Delightful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Brubeck & Jarreau- what do you get when two giant stars collide? a SUPER NOVA! Performance par Excellance!

  • @lugzielog

    I only can confirm!

    RESPECT

  • @lugzielog I agree whole heartedly!!! I was 9 or 10 the first time I heard Dave Brubeck perform "Take Five". I have an especial affection for both jazz pianists and vocalists who "scat". I am a vocalist as well as a pianist. I am grateful to my Mom because she sacrificed to bless me with piano lessons. I wish I had seriously applied myself. Every now and then I play the piano, just because I can for both my Mom's and my enjoyment!!!

  • Two of the greatest at what they do. How much better can it get!

  • If you love jazz, you gotta love this piece. I can listen to this song in anyones version and be captivated from start to finish.

  • I love this man!!!.............

  • OMG! This is genial!

  • Dit is verre weg fantastisch!!!!!!!!

Hoe kun je hier nu stil bij blijven zitten?

  • You are perfectly right

  • Al's scats are always so imaginative. Great rendition.

  • Drummer Randy Jones is amazing. He originally British. he worked with Maynard Ferguson´s big band and many more. He was one of Dave Weckl´s first teachers.

  • Fantastic !

  • Drummers MR! JACK SIX!!!

  • TWO KING TOGETHER!

  • ;D 101/100

  • the drummer is Randy Jones. i just saw them play at Jazz Alley in Seattle last night, and he was phenomenal (actually, they all were). he's been playing with Brubeck since 1979.

  • that was so great. I thought i wasnt gonna like the skat but it was superb, especially at the end. Outstanding!

  • who's the drummer?

  • sing it Al!

  • This lot inspired Marilyn Manson

  • al be killing the scat. love it

  • So looooovly!!

  • Wow Brub's looks weird without his glasses.

  • yeah are those eyebrows painted on?

  • This is absolutely the definition of "Art" Wow

  • brubeck is so fucking awesome

  • I love the melodie, although the melodie 20 years older is, as me.

  • It is true that Dave Brubeck did not compose the song but he certainly arranged the awesome piano part to this and Dave Brubeck is a world renound jazz pianist so give him credit if it wasn't for Dave this song wouldn't be as nice as it is.

  • No argument on that point from my corner. :>)

  • ...and by the way, those of you who've credited Paul Desmond with the composition are right. That Dave dude didn't write the tune.

  • Since I started the "Dave dude" thing, let me just say that I do know who he is. Was just trying to be humorous. No sacrilege intended.

  • Paul Desmond, sax player, composed "Take Five" for the drummer in the Dave Brubeck Quartet. Desmond died of cancer in mid 1970's

  • That "Dave dude" is who composed Take five...!!

  • Look at that smile on Dave's face...

  • Comment removed

  • Great stuff! Al Jarreau's improvisational skills are second to none. That Dave dude ain't too shabby either.

  • By that "Dave dude" I'm sure you mean Dave Brubeck. He wrote and arranged "Take Five." Brubeck is the one who made Paul Desmond famous. He is pretty well known so i'm surprised you haven't heard of Dave Brubeck

  • Barbarian....your name is enough to find out why you not able to hear the soul in it. To bad for you :P because it's a wonderful combination!!

Why do you think Dave is smiling at the end of the clip??

  • Why doesnt al jerreau age?

  • i'm not so agree with you barbarian216, yes it's classic, but "Take Five" is also jazz, n jazz is dynamic, soulful, n full of expressions. That's how jarreau express the music, he must be love this song so much, that's why he can express it really soulful. Besides Dave should like the way Jarreau sing this song, if not, why would he want him to sing it?! Jarreau sang this song on 1976 with this kinda style too, Dave should've knew it..

  • But, well...since i told u that jazz is full of expression, i can understand how u disappointed with Jarreau performance, maybe that's not the way you like to express it. you like the original one

just remember, that the original one also full of improvisation, only that one wasn't sang, but played by instruments (saxophone)

  • wow, only wow. thats fantastc

  • This is fantastic!

  • Grandissimo al Jarreau.. :-))

  • nice

  • Is a 5/4 time signature, but more correctly is (3+2/4),

  • correct

  • MAN, JAZZ is one of the best things of life!!! no doub

is their heart, soul, beautifullness expresion.

What would be life without JAZZ. i wish i could have a chat with some scotch with those musician.

    AJUA!!!!

  • I love the 5/4 time signature, It took me a while to get the hang of it to improvise on guitar!

  • First time I have heard with vocals...thought it sounded AWESOME. Only part I didn't like was when he counted for several measures in the middle of the song. He is a legend

  • My brother taught me to count time with this tune. When I started band the next year, no problem. Thanks for posting this

  • Marvelous!!!

    Such a fabulously unique entertainer!

  • Fantastico!

  • the first time i made LOVE not sex was to this song...brubeck..perfect....lasted ALL NIGHT

  • It's a nice song and I heard Al Jerreau when he was young, but you have to admit by this age he's lost a lot of the strength in his voice and he's definitely struggling for a lot of the notes he usually hit when he scats. Still, I recognize his musical genius as well as Dave Brubeck's and enjoyed this collaboration. This is one of my favourite jazz pieces.

  • I agree completely. He has lost some of his voice with age. His older stuff is awesome though.

  • Get the CD and don't watch this then.

  • TOTAL GENIUS !!!

  • great!!

  • absolutely amazing

one of the best peices i have ever heard

    if not the best.

  • one of my favorite piece, may i ask where i can get free sheet music of this piece?Anyone i play clarinet, alto ant enor sax and keyboards.

  • Gm , Cm in the key of Cm

  • not exactly.

oryginal version is in Es minor

and it goes Es minor - B< minor

  • AJ is brilliant !

  • Still I know our eyes often meet,

I feel tingles down to my feet,

when you smile thats much too discrete,

    sends me on my way.

    Wouldnt it be better not to be so polite, you could offer a light;

Start a little conversation now, its alright, just take five, just take five.

  • Wont you stop and take a little time out with me, just take five;

Stop your busy day and take the time out to see Im alive.

Though I`m going out of my way,

Just so I can pass by each day,

Not a single word do we say,

    It`s a pantomime and not a play

  • Two musical giants. Wolf

  • The drumming isn´t the same without Joe morello. You know Paul Desmond wrote this tune as a drum solo for Joe Morello.

  • That's interesting. The melody is only two chords, Gm and Cm

  • DAVID take flight...

  • I think he says david take five... it would match the title :D

  • baby take flight ...?

  • 0:50 too.

  • What does Al say at 0:51??

  • This is sooo smooth... Love both artists!

  • all homage and tribute should be to Sir Paul Desmond - WHO WROTE "Take Five" written in classic 5/4 TIME - Can you Dig It?

  • every once in a while he starts to sound a little like jack black

  • He reminds me of Thelonius Monk...

  • this is too out never did like Jarows whining

  • learn to spell kiddo go listen to the jonasbrothers or some thing.

  • ampthilluk Go to bed your mama is calling this is out of your league son!

  • This truly a classic, the best!

  • History was made!! Wow!!

  • This is one of the best versions ever of this number. anybody wants the lyrics, just google, you'll det them in three clicks. the way Al Jarreau plays virtual bongo and makes lyrics by countining one to five is just amazing. nobody else would dare. and the fact that Dave Brubeck looks happy gives all it's credit to the thing. Bravo!

  • There's a new version by the singer "Nabra Lansh" on Youtube. With french lyrics but she sings it well.

  • Then just don't watch it!

  • anyone who knows where i can get the lyrics please reply me with the link!!

  • I can't help you but you can listen to a new version, by Nabra Lansh,a french singer-songwriter, on Youtube.

  • Dude there are no lyrics. It's Al Jarreau, he makes them up.

  • won't you take a little time with me just take five just take five

stop your busy day and take the time out to see i'm alive i'm alive

though i'm going out of my way so we can pass by each day not a single word do we say

its a pantemime and not a play

though our eyes often meet i feel tingles down to my feet

    thats all i kno sorry!

  • Thanks, but i already found all of the lyrics on rhapsody, if you're interested, the link is further up the page!

  • Click here: Al Jarreau - Take Five - Lyrics from LyricWiki

  • Brilliant!

  • I don't particularly like his singing, but its amazing how his voice can range up and down so many octaves like that. Dave Brubeck is awesome though and is a terrific musician. Amazing performance!

  • My all time favourite tune with words from my Al time favourite singer!

  • Awesome! It is called improvisation! One of my favorite songs!

  • its not an easy song to sing its in an odd time signature and the melody is from a sax solo

  • Interesting version. Tell me what you think of it....

  • i love that song

  • That video was wonderful!....... why do people use this site for arguing instead of just appreciating the video!!! It spoils it..you fucks!

  • over-the-top what can i say

  • wow is about the only that I can think of after seeing that

  • awesome!!!

  • I watch this vid about once every couple of day's. Its just amazing

  • There HAS to be a saxophone / trumpet playing. Take Five without a sax or trumpet is no Take Five anymore.
