Um just wondering what do you use as their treats? i have 2 pet rats that I'm considering training :) i love them. their my favourite pet as well my dog :) but yeah just wondering what do you use as their treats?
My new one is such a picky eater, its impossible to get her do anything for any usual rat snacks that my other rats have loved. She just loves pieces of pasta and that's it. But I don't want to overfeed her with pasta ^.^
Thank you :). Treats is a difficult subject. Each rat will prefer different things so its important to test different types of treats and find things your rat(s) love. Brocolli, grape and banana are fairly universally loved but impractical for most training. Here i am using broken up pieces of pet shop treats, for instance small bits of chocolate drops, or yogurt drops or those biscuit hoops? :)
Yeah really fast! This was womble, i recently started to teach Whiskey it too and within a few more sessions i can see him being up there with Womble on the pint glass (see the other video). They are SO clever.
I would imagine hamsters would not have the attention span needed to learn tricks like that but you never know so give it a try and let me know :D. The slightly larger size and the tails put a lot of people off rats but most people feel differently when they handle rats in person. If you know someone who keeps rats you should visit and play with them for a while :)
one of my rats bite if u put finger in the cage. not antagonise them but to stroke them. the other is perfect and takes the stroke but the other just bites (most of the time). also urs will stay by u but mine just run off :( wish my rats were lyk urs. these arn't ur first rats r they?
Biting if you put your finger in the cage tends to be because the rats have been fed through the cage bars. Always open the cage up to feed them and your rats won't think fingers coming through the bars are food. Other than that just handle them lots and they will love to be around you, especially if you have treats lol.
Rats are very intelligent and love to learn tricks and he knows by not running away he'll get a treat lol. Hamsters rarely do tricks so i'd be suprised if you could get your hamster to do it, its just not in their nature.
LOL!!!! Literally! I was laughing out loud at this one. This is one of the best rat vids on YouTube. What a little smarty pants you have! I should try to teach this one to my babies.
Its not easy and i did it all wrong lol, I'm now developing this into fetch, kinda. There are good videos on youtube showing you how but its really not that easy. Good luck if you go for it :) you'll need a lot of patience. :)
They are both really smart but at different things, which i love. i'm fairly confident Whiskey would never get this, its not his game but he excells in other things where Womble doesn't have a clue :). so its all even :)

yea i once had a hammie that was almost 5 but it got cancer :( cancer sucks
is it best to get 2 rats or 1 ?
it sucks that rodents dont live very long :(
hanateyan 3 years ago
Always best to get 2 rats. They are very sociable and really do need rat company as well as human interaction.
oPuPo 3 years ago
my hamster had an extremly short attention span i couldnt get her to do anything and she only lived for 3 years :'(
how long do rats normaly live for?
PS: your rats are cute :)
hanateyan 3 years ago
3 years is very good for a hamster. I was fairly sure that hamsters life expectancy was about 2 years.
For rats i would say 2.5 to 3.5 years for boys and slightly less, 2-3 for females. Just my opinion, people will disagree.
oPuPo 3 years ago
i like ur rats they seem really nice and play full i have u heard of a dwarf rat

oPuPo 3 years ago
how long do they live
icekamal 3 years ago
Depends who you ask ... and depends which gender. Personally (and many people may correct me on this) i would say:
Boys: 2.5 years - 3.5 years
Girls: 2 years - 3 years.
Girls are more prone to tumours but most rats should reach those ages i imagine.
oPuPo 3 years ago
do they have good eyesight
icekamal 3 years ago
They are nocturnal creatures so i would think that the other senses are stronger but eyesight is fine.
oPuPo 3 years ago
do ur rats bite
icekamal 3 years ago
Not at all :), have been very careful to make sure they don't do that and ended up with two perfect ratties :).
