  • when did this happen ?

  • That fire destroyed a whole block of nice town homes.

  • its so cool cus i live here and when we evacuated to Dallas it was like a movie watching it on the news. my house got 5 feet of water

  • i hope tornados die

  • He doesn't want to get in the emergency crews way, huge difference between him and that news station i bet...

  • the disruption is terrible I'm lucky but their not that's sad

  • Ike hit us and everyone in our neiborhood had branches in their drive way. But our school had some roof torn off and the fence was blown down.

  • lemme explain a little something about living on the coast. if you drive? through salt water? sell the car. i dont care how much you "hose" it off. be sure to dedicate more time and money to house repair.. and i cant prove it, but i think sea-breeze and salt air make women turn into witches.. at least thats my expirience. you see, thats a 5 to 10 foot sea wall on the beach, i know water rose 18 feet in crystal beach, imagine same here. love the coast..

  • Galveston now looks like nothing ever happened

  • @EverythingMagic101 What? Nothing that was on the seawall like Landry's, Hard Rock, Flagship etc. is there and will never be rebuilt.

  • @catamaranman333 ok well thats not what i really mean. I know that there are a ton of missing places, but the way they cleaned the beach and cleaned up cabins and all of that it looks really good compared to what it was when the hurricane happened. Also the Flagship, galvestons missing nothing there, i stayed there one time and it was bad

  • @EverythingMagic101 Yeah Tillman Fertitta had big plans for the old flagship though. He had big plans for Galveston I think too but with all the damage to the Kemah Boardwalk and the Downtown Aquarium I guess things aren't really progressing like he thought down there. A definite and long-lasting effect for that area. Bolivar still has lots of places that aren't even close to normal...It's sad, I really wish the people of Galveston speed in getting economically back on track economically!

  • @catamaranman333 the flagship was suppose to have a roller coaster through it

  • Ike made Katrina look seriously small in comparison..

  • damm that 50-60 mph wind is making it impossible to put that fire out!

  • videos like this simply help to remind me of why I am glad that I don't live down in that shitty area anymore. One of these days a Cat5 will come through there and Galveston as you all know it will be virtually completely gone, mark my words :).

  • thats just horrible i had relatives who went through katrina i know how they are going to feel

  • well is there a bigger state other than texas? i didnt think so...

  • @PILLOWofECHOES Alaska is bigger..

  • @MegaHolymoly too damn cold man, lol. but you got me there. forgot about that

  • Pretty cool video showing the guys at work. I like the window shot of Reed looking at the flood waters.

  • I live in La Marque and did not evacuate, when I opened the door and look out our pine tree was bending almost all the way over. Scary shit. During the calm I fell asleep through the rest.

  • MY MOM LIVES THER N IM SO GLAD THAT NOTHING HAPPEND TO HER ....

  • watching this video almost makes me want to cry, this was the worst time of my life, so many people homeless all childhood land marks gone.. But i guess it could have been worse, Galveston has bounced back wonderfully thou, alot of place's that were ran down and ghetto got redone and everything looks very nice....God Bless Texas!!!!

  • Texans always rebuild, it's what we do best. Recover after adversity, it's in our blood. Ike was a bitch though, tested our mettle (not metal, but mettle).

  • LOL those contruction guys never miss a day. i live right on beach street . theyre ALWAYS out there no matter what!

  • i was in hurricane ike! and it was terrible. and i agree with ibc03 texas is the shit!!!!! <3

  • multi wilie i hope you go to hell texas is the shit... where do you live? illinois? where everyone... sits yea oooh bet where ever you live is so much better theres no better place to live than texas the only state apart of this shit nation (thankyou obama) that can succeed from the union put that in your pipe and smoke it bitch

  • @ibc03 i believe the word you are looking for is secede. And no, texas can not secede any more than any other state. Last time texas seceded it was forced back into the union in a little thing called the civil war. Every other southern state learned its lesson, but because texas was a nation for 10 years, somehow its different? Hawaii, vermont, and california were also nations before they joined the US, so they could secede too..but wait, they cant. (btw im a texan too)

  • @CodArk2 Well California was a nation for 22 days but the Texas and the other 2 i give them more leeway

  • I remember hearing about the fires on the radio. Not on tv, I still had no power. I didn't get power back until 16 days after Ike hit.

  • so hows galveston right now???

  • galveston is actually nicer now than it was before the hurricane.

  • @punchmaster123 Are you crazy..I was there a few weeks ago and the place SUCKSSSSS!!!!

  • @MultiWILLIE You obviously never been to the best places in texas man. Don't judge a state before you fully visited it all.

  • I was in Hurricane ike!!!!!!!!! (not lying) :D Luckily i survived it. My whole family survived!!!!! All there was was a big flood!!! then soon it went down

  • its not smart to live by the water ... may be beautiful but ehh... i dont even wanna live in houston

  • @elyseis2fly you should live in Houston its beautiful!!!!!!!!!! That is my hometown!!!!! Just dont live by Galveston!!! :)

  • i dont wanna stay here ... been here my whole life.. not that beautiful ive seen beter in tx, austin and and arlington look so nice

  • that wasn't the worst hurricane I have been through but the only one so far I remember. that was rough going through that with a 2 yr old and a bad case of the stomach flu... I can live my whole life without going through that again

  • - <

  • fuck u IKE!! u kan't hold us down...g town 409

  • I was in Galveston as one of the first EMS responders there and it deffently was quite amazing and an experiance that will always be with me.

  • After Hurricane Ike The good citizens of Galveston got together, got organised, and got busy. By contrast the "good citizens" of New Orleans did nothing but cry and wait for the federal government bureaucracy to mismanage, mishandle, and spend untold millions and then be soundly and roundly criticized for their half-hearted effort

Just proves you can get more accomplished with a hammer in your hand than a crack pipe.

  • Yeap, If NO knew how to act civil and help others then appreciate the help then they wouldn't of suffer much. We got hit hard but like you said we got together and help each other and that was what really made some people feel better and a bit relief.

  • that was probaly the funniest thing ive ever read on youtube. people in galveston have too much pride to sit around and bitch thats the difference.

  • @Avatarblackwolf I hope and pray to GOD that the next hurricane will erase that damm state from the face of the EARTH!!!

  • @Avatarblackwolf It's different when 70% of the city is under 5-10 feet of water... in TX and MS the water came in and left. You can't do much in standing water but wait for it to drop.

  • @Avatarblackwolf Totally misinformed. Your parents should be proud.

  • @Harold81 Then you are so fucking smart fuckstick, please tell me all about it.

5 years later & the welfare slobs of New Orleans are still crying.

    Waiting.......

  • @Avatarblackwolf can i give 2 thunbs up?

  • @pfun41 You can give me 4 thumbs up!!

  • @Avatarblackwolf

Exactly, that is what makes Galveston, and Houston such a great place. I live 80 miles north of Galveston in Spring, and we got 90-100MPH winds from the northwest eyewall. In the morning, we awoke and took a tour at our "remodeled" neighborhood. Pine trees everywhere through houses and blocking the road. But we all saw the people with chainsaws taken in upon them to help clean up instead of waiting for others. God bless South Texas!

  • @Avatarblackwolf Ehh, they have their own crippling bureaucracy back at home. Can't repair a house for shit without state permission.

  • @Avatarblackwolf I doubt all the people of NO were/are crack addicts. But maybe that's not what you meant =)

  • @Avatarblackwolf it would have been different in New Orleans if we had a president at the time that didn't drink and do alot of blow in highschool and college and if that president actually knew what his job was and didnt wanna try to be like his dad and be a fuck up like everyone republican ever. The only reason ppl in New Orleans waited for help was that its the governments job to help after a natural disaster.

Goes to show what a piece of shit president can accomplish after doing blow

  • @Avatarblackwolf it probably would have been different in New Orleans if we had a president at the time who didnt rely on his daddy to fix everything when he was growing up. Or if he had more braincells after doing the blow.

Shows you what republicans can accomplish after doing lines off the constitution

  • @barkley4455 So it its Bush's fault? republicans ? Lets not forget the governor and mayor, both democrats.

So if your house was on fire and you did not get out then got burnt would you blame the fire department?

Or you sound like you would blame Bush. Either way The good citizens of Galveston got together, got organised, and got busy. the welfare slobs in New Orleans are still crying.

  • @Avatarblackwolf its not my fault you are racist and assume that all black ppl have welfare and do crack. the ppl of new orleans tried to leave after katrina and go somewhere else but shots were fired at them when they tried to leave and the empty promise of help kept coming out at them from anyone that tried to help. and maybe they would've done more to help themselves if some right wing nut jobs didnt promise help and not deliver. but they were told there would be help and help never came

  • @barkley4455 its not my fault you are a dumbass. I never said anything about race, skin color, black or white.

You ASSume that all of the people in New Orleans are black? Who is racist? What a dumbass.

You can always tell the racist, they are the 1st to play the race card.

  • @Avatarblackwolf You can't argue with any of the fucktards from NO. After half of them came to Houston the crime rate went up over 20%, but none of 'em want to admit that. Many of the transplants were seen using FEMA money to buy useless crap and go out to strip clubs. After that dipshit Kanye said Bush did'nt like black people you would've thought GWB ran accross the bay in his Klan uniform and threw a hand grenade at the levee's by the reaction the poeple of NO had.

  • @barkley4455 they also told the dumbasses a week ahead of time to leave....and if u didnt...thats what u get

  • g town is is my mane home

  • i live in Galveston it sucked after ike hit it

  • UHHH OOO 0:8

  • Did the Hurricaine fight for it's friends?

  • my mom and i were standing on the bridge on i45 in rice texas watching all the traffic go through its a terrible thing were you an ike victim or helping out?

  • o,fuck dat i dont want live no where in galveston the 2009 season is going to be active 2...and they might have some stear right into galveston...

  • I'm in Galveston right now on vacation and it looks like nothing ever happened. I guess that' because it's been about a year, and that they fixed a lot of it. The beach looks good though.

  • no it does look different. If you lived here you would know the difference. Yes.. so much has been done to help it build back up but SO much is gone too! It is very different still but being open to public and tourists is great... Galveston can & will rebuild 100%

  • @GoodysFlaminHot I miss the 100 year old oaks the most.

  • iwent there yesterdayy,

  • I went there this June

  • are guys even from galv cuz i am

  • ME TOO THATS MY BIRTHTOWN

  • i've been in houston since 1977.. Alysha was terrible, Alison (ts) was bad, we got lucky for two decades rita missed us (mostly) and katrina hit NO but IKE was a complete disastor.. send the hurricanes to the taliban

  • i went there on vacation last year about a month before ike. im going agin in a couple of weeks to see it in person

  • the beachh looks way better than thiss, they fixed alot of it, but it's still messedd up,:/

  • name of the high school is Tors(tornado). riptides is a semi pro football team.

  • Oh god its hurricane season again! I didnt evacuate during IKE and i probaly wont if there is another.

  • hurricane ike was a pain:|

  • My friend went through this. She had most of the tiles on her roof ripped off, three broken windows, flooding in her house, and an oak tree fell into the home, knocking a hole right in their wall. She said they're glad they evacuated and hope nothing else hits this year. They've still got water damage and stuff like that in their home. God Bless All.

  • Poor thing, hope her home gets rebuilt and she'll live a good life. God Bless You All!

  • This was my 3rd Hurricane and Ike was the worst so far to hit galveston/Houston area. I will leave the next time a storm like Ike comes thru. Lesson learned.

  • man luky if another hurrican come over here again were probaly not goin 2 leave next time man this suxz

  • wow i have bad memory cuz i coulda sworn that hurricane was in 2007

  • man i feel sorry for a bunch of ppl god that must suck so bad for me we only had no lights for like aweek and a few trees feel down (not on the house though) but compared to other ppl pretty much nothing happened to me at all!!!

  • i remeber my uncle letting me come with him to southwest houston to work with H.P.D and i wish i didnt i remember he had t to call the coast guard twice god rest all that died in hurricane ike

  • whos up for round two!!!!!!!!

  • not me god willing there arent any more

  • thats true im just fascinated by them i stayed at a friends during the storm BIG mistake

  • If any of you have been to Galveston as of recent-- it's plain to see how wonderfully resilient that island is. God willing we don't have another hurricane this year, that little island should be back to it's old self, new and improved, in no time. What amazing things we are capable of! Yay for Murdoch's coming back!! Don't forget to support Galveston-- they are definitely needing some tourist love this summer!!

  • I remember watching this on the news. A lot of people here in San Antonio were predicting that there would be strong storms and rain here too. I couldn't believe how many people decided to say behind and not evacuate.

  • its been months and its almost hurricane season again....it was haunting, and like it was said earlier..it took the same path as the Great storm of 1900 it will be remembered in our grand children

  • korvelo, you aren't going to sell your pyramid house plans by insulting potential customers. Not a real bright marketing plan.Geodesic domes are the MOST weather resistant but nearly as ugly as the pyramid design. I highly doubt that either will become commonplace anytime soon.

  • texas.u don't get it either,it's not the pyramid, but the principles used to build it .

comments like yours shows how dumb people that build disposable junk really are, your idea of a house is a cardboard pretty house ....wow .safety? who cares!!

but please build your way ,this is america just don't come around whining for help the next time a hurricane comes your way.

unfortunately a lot of people will listen to idiots like u instead of putting safety first risking death and major losses.

  • Actually, I *do* get it. My family has made a fortune selling geodesic domes but not from insulting people. Think "marketing"...which requires manners. Focus on the positive about your product not the negative about the competition. You can't browbeat people into buying a product no matter how "superior" you think it is. Regardless, the majority of hurricane damage is from storm surge and flooding, not destruction. Better build those pyramids on stilts. :)

  • good for you.

most geodesic i know are a joke and not a real house even domes built of concrete have too thin walls and full of cracks.

show me a real geodesic with several stories, garages,5000 sq feet living area and that can resist a f5 tornado or cat5 hurricane and not only the wind force but any projectile thrown at those speeds,

for your info the pyramid will resist storm surge better than your geo and has living quarters 20 ft above ground.

are your geos solid steel or concrete?

  • Engineering is a balance of environmental needs & cost effectiveness. People can have whatever they pay for. The damage we suffered from Ike was electrical not structural. Lightening traveled thru our underground power lines & burned out the motherboards of much- sprinkler system, garage door opener, etc. Nice castle mote & tank in your drawing. I'm convinced you're a kid but I'll still talk w/you. Message me if you want so we don't fill up this video's comments section.

  • engineering is what?

the difference between your family and me is that they're in for the money and i'm in it to get the best possible result while still been affordable and easy to build.

    no excuses or ridiculous compromises.

thank you for the compliment! indeed i'm a 50 year old kid. engineering is the use of materials and principles to achieve a desired result. safety , practicality, economics, are usually the main factors .

  • I just want to give all the props to the city of Galveston. I was down there for Spring Break and they have done a GREAT job getting Galveston back to the way it once was. It looks so good! All though Bolivar Peninsula/Crystal beach and that area is still pretty damaged. All looks good. Good job!!!

  • I was thinking of moving out here from NYC.....

  • .......=[

i cant believe all this happend from that storm

it was almost the exact same path od the 1900 storm

    its just really emotional

i had a person that died there and 2 hurt.........=[

its just really really terrible wut happend there in galveston

  • Thank you for providing this; I spent a week in Galveston earlier this year on a relief trip with students from Boston College and can sincerely say it changed my perception, my goals, my career path...I am trying to get back as soon as I can. It is unfair and totally unacceptable that the city should still look the way it does nine months after the storm. This is America. We have the money and the man power to fix this. Galveston: you are in my thoughts and my heart, always.

  • Butterflies I agree with u 100%. U live in Houston about 40 minutes from Galveston and we also got hit bad. My ceiling collapsed....and several houses on my street were destroyed. I was recently in Galveston for the first time since the storm...in March09 for a cruise. Yes...it still looks horrible. But if that surprises u...u ain't seen nothing yet. Just go to New Orleans and see the damage that remains although it's been 4 yrs. Go to the 9th ward and it looks like Hurricane Katrina just left.

  • I live in Houston.

  • Do you know of any specific groups still doing cleanup in New Orleans or Galveston? I want to go back.

  • As bad as this seems..... Bridge City got hit harder and more people lost thier homes than anywhere else due to hurricane Ike. I myself live in Nederland and have much family who lost everything.

  • I lost my room and most of my hunting equipment at my dads place because of this shit...damn

  • damn i still get choked up when i watch this its comin back

  • Thank God I was in Greece when all this happened.

  • i dont even have a house anymore. ike wiped it off the island.

  • Man, thats crazy i went down there on a relief trip, jan 6th, and it still was terrible!

  • Im from galvaston, and im 13 years old. It was really hard for me to keep on moving... I lost EVERYTHING! My house was under 8ft of water! my house was 71st, stewert rd... which recived most damage.

It was an expierience i will never forget.

  • i'm 15 and live in galveston. you know.umm. the apartments off the beach. its kinda like a tower, thats where i lived. now we moved to houston.

  • I so appreciate the fact that you all aren't waiting for the government to save you! I'm leaving with a group tomorrow to help rebuild for a week - Spring Break - from Virginia.

  • my family and i was very blessed we live 30 min from houston..i never got to see this because of course our electricity was out....glad i see it now and not right after thats hard to take in

  • A hard video to watch..but our little island is coming back slowly but surely.

  • THis is sad..

all my familey lost there homes..

I was born in Galveston nd Raised..

Its very very hard too go down there and see what it looks lyk now i mean it never gana be the same but ill always have the memories of itt..,

  • wow this is sad I was born and raised in galveston I live up in the dallas area now just to know what people went through was sad a lot of jobs loss and damage I couldn't imagine if it was the category 4 they were predicting

  • i live near kingwood-approx. 90 miles inland-and the roof on my apartment building was ripped off. my upstairs neighbor had water damage that ran down to me, causing my sheetrock to fall in. i lost everything i worked for on my own. all 3 days after my 21st bday.

just goes to show-things are only things.

  • crying:(( I was born their. on that island.. January 9 1986 at 4:17 am. I hope they can recover from it...

  • I was in houston when this hit. While our damage was not as bad as galverston I did see a tornado spawn out of it pretty intense stuff

  • I can destroy all tornados and hurricanes,

and want to realize my discovery in practice...

  • Remember guys, this storm in terms of damage is third to only Andrew and Katrina.

  • its sounds fun i would jump in and swim lol but i feel bad for the people that had it!:(

  • I have pictures of those townhouses I took when they let everyone come back on the island...

  • we got hit worse in MS by katrina i live 10 miles from biloxi an i stayed at my house it was amazing tooo bad i didnt have a camra at the moment

  • I Saw The Rader Pic Of The Hurricane Ike

  • i was stuck in hurrican charlie when i was 3 or 4 maybe 5. i was so freaked out. well, i slept most the time *Giggles*

  • from 4:17 - 4:21 my apt complex is to the far left next to radioshack

  • CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TALK TO ME

    lets chat 36

  • Man i went down their lyke one week b4 all this happened & they where already talkin about it on the news tellin ppl 2 leave & everybody i talked 2 said they where jus gon wait it out & shyt...Now lookin at this video...Ir's really kinda sad man cause all those ppl i talked 2 idk if their dead, alive ,or wat & the whole island is wiped out...Damn thats sum crazy shyt...

  • yea dude ike fuked me over pretty bad livin in a trailer for like a year maybe who knos......my house went halfway under so ya.......ugh this shit sux

  • Scary! we got a lot of rain from the storm! And a few tornados too! but not where my neighborhood is!! phew!!!

  • not that bad..wtf are you crying about

  • Ike was terible to me when it came

  • that sucks man =(

  • ok who lives in houston becaause I do. thats 1 hour away from where ike hit

  • mhm.. devastating... even though I went to Galveston on Thursday for thanksgiving... it was horrible. It looked like a warzone.. all the plants were just dead. I even saw a boat by this restaurant about 2 miles off the coast! Buildings were just ripped apart... and the beach is basically gone. I feel so bad for Galveston. I thank God that my grandpas house had no damage or flooding whatsoever!

  • I sat out the storm wasent shit compared to rita just had a bad surge the damage wasent nearly as bad either where i live compared to rita

  • i live in houston we were out of power 4 15 days

  • why did'nt you guys go fucking help instead of sitting on your asses!

  • I second that!... I was a victim of this storm

  • I can destroy these monsters...

and want to make my discovering in practice...

  • They speak, what nobody knows of a nature and reasons of formation(education) tornado?

I not only know it, but I know as to destroy this terrorist.

  • Ike was a devastating force. I found out the first time when the hurricane still had full strength winds when it hit my home in Indiana!

Electric gone, trees down everywhere. It was amazing.

  • yor videos are soo awesome!

  • man you guys should have gotten over to Bolivar and taken some video. Just blows my mind, that place will never be the same.

  • did the casa del mar hotel survive

  • everythings bigger in texas... including the hurricanes

  • sad

  • Never forget. I was down there just days after the Storm with a friend. You cannot believe the devastation until you see it first hand. Never forget...

  • Don't mess with Texas Ike!

  • thats not good for texas

  • u know my house got bad damage from ike

    fuck u

  • whoa!

  • damn, it was bad in houston but it looks like galveston got hit harder.

  • One of the dumbest things ive ever heard. OF COURSE Galveston got hit harder. Its the first place to be hit by Ike.

  • yeah, I was in the galleria area when Ike struck the area, Galveston may gotten damaged but we (in houston) got hit hard as well.

  • COOL=P

  • I just watched all three parts and all I can say is wow... The landfall video was really neat to watch. It sucked watching those houses burn though and also that soda machine. Poor soda machine. :(

  • How absolutely heartbreaking...

  • I consider Hurricane Ike the husband of Hurricane Katrina.

  • I Went There Lucky That I Didnt Stay Until That Happened

  • These are all really cool videos... why didn't you guys go stay the night on the Bolivar Peninsula? Just kidding.... they got the worst of it I believe. I am still missing friends who lived there and praying they didn't stay with the kids... but noone has heard from them at all. I tink alot of people got stuck there trying to get off the peninsula. Very sad.
