  • whats that catfish with the spots?

  • Absolutely stunning! Gorgeous fire eel/bgk congrats!:))

  • hhow long is your bichir

  • do you still have them ?

  • Very nice and healthy palmas, by the way

  • i have a eel what should feed him ????

  • the closest ive seen to perfect

  • what diverse peaceful community!

may I ask the size of it?

  • hey bro, those are some awesome oscars you have. I've just got back into oscars myself. few questions for you. 1. what filteration do you have at the moment? 2 is that a UV i see in the corner of your tank? 3. at what age where you able to sex them? I've got 5 oscars, hoping for a pair like yours.

  • thank you... i was lucky that 2 out of my 3 paired up :)

Im using two fluval FX5 filters on my 150G at the moment... that blue light is a moonlight... i dont use UV lights as id rather have a bit of bacteria in the tank so the fishes have a strong immune system... oscars are hard to sex really, I only know becuase of which one laid the eggs... online theres posts about how their vents are different but to be honest ive never been able to truly tell myself by looking :)

  • best bet to get a pair is to buy a bunch like what youve done... they will pair up so you can tell which ones you keep and which ones to rehome... you dont want two males together or they will fight loads and upset the balance in the tank when they get sexually mature.... with 5 you have a good chance of getting a male female pair... good luck :)

  • thanks for the reply. do you happen to have any videos of your oscars as juvies? would love to see what they originally looked like.

  • yeah if you look at my accounts profile page and view some of the first videos i uploaded ;)

  • damn, just had a look at the old vidoes, what happened to the tiger oscar? did u rehome him? anyway keep us posted with more videos. would love to see the progress of these guys..

  • yeah the tiger was the first guy we bought... we made the mistake of having him on his own for too long and he couldnt live with other fish well... used to be very aggressive... so he was rehomed into a nice 6X2X2 with some other large american cichlids and is doing well :)

  • love the keyholes, got one of my own recently

  • they very cool fish... great personality and real charachters :)

  • do u still have the big synodontis in this tank, which type is it btw???

    cheers

  • yeah he's in the tank still... hes around 7-8" long... wont grow much longer i think (dunno as hes a hybrid of sorts)... though he seems to be getting thicker and thicker! hes a real looker now hehe

  • I thought he looked more like a synodontis decorus

  • How many gallons of water do you have in that tank?

  • its a 150gallon tank.... I want to go bigger still, but for now this is working well :)

  • thanx 4 da reply

  • youre welcome :)

  • hey love da tank, were did u get the wood from, can i just put any wood i find in ma tank tank or is it special? thanku

  • Im using mainly mopani wood from africa... I buy it at the fish store... I wouldnt put just any piece of woodin the tank to be honest as it could have toxins / tannins harmfull to fish, unless you know what type of wood youre using and if its safe, rather buy it from a fish shop ;)

  • Alright, I know what I want for my birthday and it's a Sony HDR.

And youre fish. Can I have your tank as well?

No, only kiddin', but I'm impressed!

Lovely and special fish, you can be proud of your collection.

Niceclose up of your pleco and LOVE your cat.

Looks like one O couldn't choose between red or tiger, eh?lol

If this is testing your cam, I'm looking forward for more. Excelent! Thank you.

  • its a great cam!!! cant actually get the quality that good for a youtube upload as youre limited to 1gig per video and the raw files are huge!.... yeah the one oscar is a red / tiger mix... thats the male... the red is the girl

  • what is the big white fish

  • if you mean the one swimming around in thats a geophagus standecheri.... if you mean the long snake like one on the bottom thats a polypterus delhezi ;)

  • is their ever fighting in ur tank

  • Yes, sadly its impossible to keep a lot of cichlids together and not have fighting, but I think ive weeded out the main culprits now and the ones i have left in this tank all work well together

  • hello there how do you clean sand because i dont know how you are supposed to. do you use a gravel cleaner or something?

  • just give the sand a bit of a stir and siphon up the dirts that floats on the top... hold the hose near to the sand but not close enough to suck it all up

  • thanx 4 the reply

  • Also LOVE the fish

  • the green terror is in a 60cmx30cmx30cm

tank she about 8cm right now, how big does the tank need to be 4 her when shes ful grown?

  • she'll need a big tank as shell grow huge... I reckon you could prabably get away with minimum of a 50-60Gallon or so if shes on her own, or youd need something very big to keep her with other fish as they will be very aggrressive and territorial in something small towards anything else

  • thanxs ill prob sell 1 of them cuse i cant get a really big tank, ma house is too small

  • hey grate tank, nice set up!

can som1 tell me if i can keep a green terror, pleco and oscar in a 4x2x2 tank?

    thanx......

  • oscar will be fine in a 4X2X2 and perhaps a pleco though a common pleco will eventually outgrow that size tank... green terror will be fine in that tank on his own as they are far too agressive to be kept in a small tank with other large cichlids and will pretty much kill its tankmates when it matures.... though on its own a 4X2X2 will be perfect for an adult solo

  • thanks dude :)

  • These are probably the best Fishkeeping videos I've seen on Youtube.

A pleasure to watch, Thanks for sharing with us :)

  • cheers :)

I will try and get another one up asap... got some new fish to my collection

  • what do you call the blue light at the top of the tank

    ??

    thanx

  • i got it as a moonlight for the tank so i can see what they up to at nighttime

  • EY what filters are you using? that water is the cleanest ive ever seen in an oscar tank!!!

  • Two Fluval FX5's

  • does the oscars ever bother your BGK?? and does your eel ever try to jump out??

  • nah the oscars are very gentle with all of the fish... the BGK seems to be getting along nicely and no one obthers him... the eel also dosent ever try to escape, we've had him for years now and even though he could easily climb out he dosent.

I remember having peacock eels years ago that wouold escape often, so i guess im just lucky with this eel :)

  • amazing tank. i have 2 silver dollars, 2 severum cichlids, 2 senegal bichirs, african knife fish, and an iredecent shark that i am going to put in 125 gallon tank but in a 55 now. would it be ok to add a fire eel to the 125 gallon?

  • thank you...

the only thing youll have a problem with is that ID shark as they grow huge...

fire-eels will also eventually grow to be monsters, but youll have a couple of years to get a larger tank... fire eels grow 3ft long so a 125g (US) tank will be rather small when he's that length,. but you should be ok for a couple of years

  • ok thanks. i will probly get one and if my shark ever does get that big i will probly give it or sell it to someone who can provide for it. my tank is 4x2x2

  • yeah they grow to around 3-4ft long... so he'll probably need it in a few years :)

  • my fire eel finaly started to eat last week!!!

He ate some rosy red minows, ghost shrimp, and night crawlers

  • awesome glad to hear it :)

Yeah they can take a while! can make you quite worried....

  • that's a really nice tank n fish. i was wondering can u keep a jardini arowana with 2 ocars, 3 silver doller n clown loach in that sized tank

  • You could for a short while while they grow up, but essentially youd need something a bit bigger

  • thanks might not get the aro what type of catfish (not the pictus) is that n is the fire eel high maintenance.

  • Its a "Cukoo + Leopard" Synodontis Hybrid, dont see him much during the day, very active at night... tends to be a bit grumpy and attacks the other catfish (but hasnt ever done any real damage).

The Fire-Eel is easy to keep and a great fish... only difficult part is feeding him as mine (and many others this size) will not eat anything but live food... I need to keep buying earthworms (nightcrawlers) from a fishing shop as he eats about 5-10 daily.. also he eats live river shrimp on weekends :)

  • Is that a huge pleco?

  • They still get a lot bigger than that ;)

  • Ur joking right? The bloody thing is like 2 feet long which mine is 2 inches how old is he??? Thanks for replying cheers

  • ive had him for about 2 years or so... but i got him pretty large to start with.

Im sure if yours gets to big for you, you can take him to a fish shop and theyll resell him... quite a few people want to buy a large one to go in an already established tank

  • Thanks for getting back to me i want him to get that big but i never knew they did... Thanks

  • Man thats one great looking tank, what size is it ? And how big is your fire ell ?

  • thank you... its a 5X2X2 150G tank and the fire-eel is just over 2 ft long now

  • What's the blue LED light , in the upper left hand corner, for ?

  • its a blue led light and at nighttime gives a moonlight glow to the tank so that i can see all the catfish and other night fish :)

  • where do you get wood like the large peice on the right side?

  • I got that at the fish shop but i have had to take it all out as it started rotting badly and messing up the water... pity as it looked great

  • amazing can I put 1 oscar in my 4ft tank with neon tetras about 4cm and a pleco 12cm?

  • definately not .... unfortunately a tetra type of shoaling fish is just too small and they also dont behave like larger cichlids and act like prey...the oscar will definately eat a tetra... the pleco is fine though as they are tough buggers :)

  • Wow amazing vid Ken! Such a great camera. It's like having my own tank in the room with none of the hassle.

I cant believe youre trying out convicts again! hahaha

Btw over here we eat tilapia like hake. Now I feel sad about it...

  • thanks livviness... tialpia is nice eating fish :)

  • awesome job on the filming of the tank and fish its way cool in hd.. anyways just a quick question ive got 2 tiger oscars and there about 3-4 months old, is it too late to add a 6/7inch ghost knife? Cheers tam :)

  • you should be alright with that just give him plently of hiding space as they dont like light much and have very poor eyesight so like to hide during the day... also if the oscars try anything on him at least he has somewhere to hide till they get bored of him

  • thanx for getting back to me, i already have a ghost knife that size to add so that all good :) but im a lil worried about my oscars as one tends to be dominating the other, will they ease of each other over time or is there a trick to stopping it? Yours look so placid :)

  • you're welcome :)

Male oscars will fight as they get mature and eventually will have to be seperated in most cases unless in a very large tank... depending on how bad the fights are it could just be that they are getting ready to mate aswell... i appear to either have a male and female or 2 females... im not really 100% sure at this point but they are very gentle fish and dont fight much.

  • very nice

  • thanks you :)

  • hey man nice tank but what happened to the talapia

  • the tilapia was extremely aggro... i shouldve done my homework before i got him ;)

Anyways he's been rehomed in another tank back at the lfs and is doing well

  • whow that looks awesome in hd. so clear. i gotta get me one (hd camera)

  • youtube only allows 720p HD videos, but the camera does 1080p... but yeah the mpeg compressions looks ok on youtube, much better than my old camera :)

  • what filters do u have?

  • using two Fluval FX5 filters

  • wow nice oscars, i feed mine hikari gold and hikari bloodworms

    is that good enough

can you check out my vid?

  • that should be fine... though you should try and get hold of some variety for them to keep life exciting :)

I feed mine live rivershrimp which they love catching and bloodworm aswell as tetra doromin cichlid pellets

  • man! youre oscars are so nice! i had to get rid of mine because he was messing with my arowana :(

  • sorry to hear it... yeah i tried to keep arowanas twice with mine and they died both times

  • sweet video man nice and clear

  • cheers... yeah the video is smooth in playback on my pc, but i think something went wrong when i uploaded it to youtube

  • Hey man, your fish are looking great! I should have a few new videos up soon, so keep your eyes open!

  • thanks bro.l.. im loving your archer fish... how those going?

  • hey man lovin the vid and your convict seems to be doing great (=

  • yeah they were about an inch a fewc weeks back!!! now they are huge... and totally dominant... though i seem to have enough space so that they do harass anything too badly.

  • the spotted catfish in the beginning is a "Zebra Synondontis" a hybrid

    LOVE the bichir

    i have 4, 2 senegals

    1 albino senegal

    and 1 ornate

  • Yeah I am not 100% sure what he is becuase hes sitting at about 8-9" at the moment which is huge for a syno... and he's very stocky too and seems to be growing more... the patterns have a bit of cuckoo syno and zebra syno... so im thinking he's a mix of those

  • stunning tank m8... great job!

  • thank you :)

  • omg! fat cats :)

  • yep... they get a bit too much food if you ask me :P

  • yesh :p

    i love fat catfish :)

  • Great video man I like your tank.. video is not up in HD yet but I will fav it and watch later .... check out my Powerpig videos

  • cheers... I had a look... hes a beast of an oscar!!!

    well done
