Mexico and Brazil have similar gun death rates to the US but have strict gun laws whereas countries like Austria have similar gun death rates to Australia yet have weapons freely available. As far as Australia is concerned gun crime and crime in general has not altered at a statistically significant level since strict gun control measures were introduced here in 1996. Thats the fact of it.

Why you would allow a small child to fire a weapon with a ROF of well over 1000 rounds a minute is beyond me. A grown man, if not trained, could have a nasty accident with one of those guns, let alone a child. That is why gun safety courses should be a requirement before having one registered to you.

Reminds me of a friend of mine who kept all his weapons locked in a shed, with the ammunition. He had a couple of boys, at the time 8 and 12.
