@33Muslimah Thank you! Since I've got different textures on my head they locked at different times. The tighter coiled back area locked up first at 6-7 months. The crown and most of the front at about 1 year with a few in the front where my hair is a bit more loose 15 months. I consider fully locked too when the braid pattern completely disappeared from the loc.
I am still deciding to latch or palm roll ( and i know both can be done). I don't want to put holes in my future locs...and I also like that once latched, it lasts... also don't locs too thin. thx for sharing. x
@ssikmoi88 If you take your time with latching, you can most definitely avoid holes in your locs. I've heard that the two point rotation produces a fatter loc. Qochemist does both so check out her locs because they are definitely not thin. Mine are thin because I parted them small like Sisterlocks, my hair strands are fine and I use the 4 point rotation as you see in the video. Do what works for you and your locs will be beautiful! Take care.
I love how in this video you metion how important it is to make sure you dont go too close to the scalp! that is so vital to the strength and integrity of the Loc and I'm glad to see someone else on here who understands and shares this information! great video!
Hi lovely, Your hair is sooo pretty :)...its good that we can use different tools to tighten our locs and dont have to be tied to specific tools! I should learn from you re not interlocking all the way to my base: I give myself nasty headaches
@BrownAriesLady Hey Sis!! So good to hear from you! lol, I've done it a time or two re tightening all the way to the base only to have to take aspirin and rub lavender oil on my scalp to calm the soreness. Totally not worth it. Thanks so much and I know yours are beautiful too! ***hinting for an update from you*** ;-)
I recently went on vacation and was afraid of losing my nappyloc tool so I bought the plastic version of your metal one. I actually bought all the ones I could find in Joann's. It works just fine for me. I now keep one in every bag I may carry so I have a tool with me where ever I go. How did you widen the metal opening?
@TheDreadheadking That depends on your hair growth and preference, though it should not be done more than monthly. My hair grows a bit slower than average and is of a fine thickness so 4-6 months in between retightening seems to be the best for me.
Great vid. I will get a photo up soon so that you can see mine. This helps a lot. I have always been afraid to do my own, but everytime I watch simular videos I get a little more confident. Thanks again.
@Bklyngrl02 Let me know when you do put that pic up. Gurl, I looked at Nubianlockedprincess' and MsButterfli's videos I bet a billion times before I got the courage to try it. lol Then imagine my fear when I was asked to do a tutorial after ONLY 3 retightenings!! lol This video is attached to that vid. Scroll down to Video Responses on this vid and you'll my first video on this using a paperclip. It help a lot to view vids on latching many times and when you finally do it, just take your time.
Some of my spray bottles also start working.... I have taken the nozzle apart and tried to soak it to remove any debris or buildup and some of them never recover....
Great job with the latching.... I would let you interlock my hair anytime :) Good tip on not tightening the hair too close to the scalp. Your locs are really growing and filling out.... Beautiful!
@qochemist Whew, I'm glad I'm not the only one with the spray nozzles. I like to think that I'm somewhat mechanically inclined, so I was wondering. I've done the same thing as far as taking them apart and cleaning to no avail. Me thinks it's planned obsolescence. lol
Very detailed and thanks for showing a closeup shot. Yep, those spray bottles tend to stop working. I just bought one that's used for household chemicals. I hope it holds up better. I'm looking forward to seeing your video on how to fix Y and holes in locs. Your locks have really grown and they are lovely :)
@rmcandlelight Haven't found any more Ys in my yet but I think I can still demonstrate what to do. So I'll be doing that video soon. I've got to edit together the footage on how to modify the yarn needle. Thanks so much for your continued support Sis!
@wagechi29 Coming from one of the first beautiful ladies whose locs I looked at while contemplating locking my hair, this is a huge compliment!! Thank you so much Sis!!
Heyyyy Sis! Girl you've gone Hollywood with your vids! Nice effects. Your locs have gotten so long! I see your's condense like mine, it's made them a little thinner than when I first started out but they are strong and that's a good thing. Your locs are beautiful as always and your information always on point. Take Care!
@Kumina4 Hey Sis!! I'm a long way from Hollywood, lol, but it's the movie making software that came with this computer. My very old one bit the dust earlier this year. Yep my locs have condensed quite a bit which is fine with me. That's probably because the locs are getting longer and our hair is on the fine side. Thanks so much!
I'll look forward to the Y repair. I made a terrible Y in one of my locs a few months ago, and now I'm considering picking out the the loc because there does not seem to be any way to fix it.
Hi! Your hair is absolutely beautiful! How long did it take for your hair to fully lock (mature)
