@tokiwartooth95 - dude, I have no idea who came first. But its clear one wasn't "influenced" by the other- they cloned the other's guitars and vocals .
@xramcam the similarities are less noticeable if you listen to slaughter in the Vatican first, you can see that cowboys from hell was an evolved version of Exhorder's style at the time, so I still put it at the level of influence, not imitation... except for the vocals, that was straight up copied.
@tokiwartooth95 Yeah, but Exhorder's Get Rude demo wasn't groove metal, it was just thrash, but you can tell Phil's vocals on Vulgar Display of Power and afterwards sound like this.
@Decapitat0r Slaughter in the Vatican was released in 1988, Pantera stole the music and popularized, Retard. I didn't mean this specific album. LOL you are fucking stupid.
@jinglebearr stole lol, bands influenece each other all the time it is hardly stealing, are you fucking retarded?, sorry don't answer that as it is obvious you are
In a sense Exhorder might've invented groove metal but Pantera perfected it. This obviously is thrash metal in essence, but what Pantera added was a more southern groove that was incredibly heavy. They're both great, it's just Pantera grooved more, ex: Far Beyond Driven, Reinventing the Steel...
damn people...metal is about a movement not competition. its not about whos better its about brotherhood and unity. if you play metal and suck i still have more respect for you than if you played good in pop. why? cause metal takes talent to play.
@AbandonedRustedMetal Well that's fine everybody has the right on his own choise but comon where is PanterA in the world of metal and where are Helmet and Exorder....I mean PanterA are the best of the 90's maby ever....
I'm not saying Pantera is bad or anything. But being popular doesn't mean being the best. In that very same way, you could say that Bieber is the best in the world of music, but he's not. I've heard metal that is way better than Pantera from really unpopular and underground bands. However, Pantera definitely were a lot better than most shitty bands from the 90s.

@GanjaPharmzor Wait! You originally said GROOVE metal, no mention of THRASH until now??? Why's that?? Exhorder are more thrash/death with a few 'groove' bits. You are totally clueless!
@TheRippingCorpse What a marvelous way to chicken out; by refusing to comment any further ? Are you too silly too admit that I'm right ? Yes, Slaughter in the Vatican was pretty thrashy, and so was The Law, HOWEVER, The Law is often seen as their more Thrashy/GROOVE breakthrough, mainly because of the syncopated drums. And which song are we speaking off here ? That's right. THE LAW. So don't act like I'm clueless without coming with some valid points yourself.
@GanjaPharmzor So you're 16 eh? And you think you can tell ME about a band I've been into longer than you have been alive? Good stuff! But hey, you win at da interwebzzzz!!11!!!! lolololololololo
@AtanasovPetar You are indeed correct. If you listen to Pantera albums before this album though you'll notice Pantera sounded completely different. @B166ERqed Pantera may sound simplistic to you but they aren't.Songs like I'm broken,Revolution is my name or cowboys from hell may seem like easier songs than Exhorder songs but they are not my friend.Since i have been listening to metal no one can cover those songs good. It's just 99% of Pantera songs are kick ass to the max because they had this magic between them. And Darrell was a hell of a lead player i don't hear that in exhorder.

@ScreamBloodyGwar Well, even if they are shitty bands(Korn, Slipknot etc.), having any band claiming to be influenced by your band should be taken as a compliment.
The riffs in this song are so tough that they push meat through your dick and rip the flap off of your asshole! Cheers to all Thrashers, young and old!!
"Recently, Thomas suggested that while it is possible Pantera may have been influenced by his band, the members of Pantera "work[ed] a ... lot harder than [they] did."
how exactly can you "steal a band's sound" ... there are plenty of bands who sound similar. and Exhorder didn't have songwriting talent. Pantera did. PANTERA RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
you have to be completely retarded not to understand the BLATANT facts that your EARS FUCKING TELL YOU - Exhorder = completely ripped off by GLAMTERA. yeah, first three Pantera albums are completely devoid of this sound. COMPLETELY- then Phil hears this Exhorder, and guess what? COWFAGS FROM HELL pops up. COINCIDENCE? no you fucking inbred retards. stop the 'hero worship'. Pantera = biggest fucking FRAUDS in Metal history, bar none.
the onlt reason people compare exhorder to pantera, is they both have the heavy groove factor!!! you cant deny that both bands are heavy as hell, but it took pantera a few albums until t.g.s.t.k. to match the speed of exhorder!!!! so just enjoy both bands!!!!!!
I was a friend of Frankie and the whole band back in the early 90's when they were still together, and also know Phil. Instead of starting a fight about who did what, why not just remember Frakie, and the influence Exhorder had on many New Orleans based metal bands in the Early 90's. Yes there were bad feelings between Exhorder and Pantera back in the day, I was there, but that's in the past, just Remember Frankie right now, he was a great very nice guy.
Exhorder=Roots. Pantera's hardcore phase came long after. Both bands kick ass, so stop being little faggots and THRASH!

@JobForATurtle You're right! Those people are stupid! Music could not have evolved without inspiration from older acts!

The riffs in this song are so tough that they push meat through your dick and rip the flap off of your asshole! Cheers to all Thrashers, young and old!!

I have to say I have more respect for Exhorder just because they came from a more punk background while Pantera came from a glam background

"Recently, Thomas suggested that while it is possible Pantera may have been influenced by his band, the members of Pantera "work[ed] a ... lot harder than [they] did."
svendiamond 10 months ago
how exactly can you "steal a band's sound" ... there are plenty of bands who sound similar. and Exhorder didn't have songwriting talent. Pantera did. PANTERA RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
svendiamond 10 months ago
you have to be completely retarded not to understand the BLATANT facts that your EARS FUCKING TELL YOU - Exhorder = completely ripped off by GLAMTERA. yeah, first three Pantera albums are completely devoid of this sound. COMPLETELY- then Phil hears this Exhorder, and guess what? COWFAGS FROM HELL pops up. COINCIDENCE? no you fucking inbred retards. stop the 'hero worship'. Pantera = biggest fucking FRAUDS in Metal history, bar none.
dethkult 10 months ago
@dethkult yea and the first three albums didnt even have phil anselmo.
5150blssdmf 10 months ago
@5150blssdmf that's because phil was a roadie for Exhorder at the time..... notice a pattern?
Kauffdaddy 10 months ago
@Kauffdaddy Roadie for them? no he wasnt! he was a very good friend of Kyle Thomas, not a fucking roadie lol.
THEGATHERING20 9 months ago
@dethkult Bro they were fucking young and talented.... with balls and skill! have you ever checked them out

the onlt reason people compare exhorder to pantera, is they both have the heavy groove factor!!! you cant deny that both bands are heavy as hell, but it took pantera a few albums until t.g.s.t.k. to match the speed of exhorder!!!! so just enjoy both bands!!!!!!

This sounds like Exodus honestly. The production is different but I hear a lot of this in Tempo of the Damned.
