  • white socks?!!!!!!!!!!!

  • cool Be kind and nice with me and I will be with you

  • hihi You will have a fun time with me

  • hehe Your little princess is here to please you

  • Actually, Mark used a Les Paul Jr and a Laney Amp

  • very good!

  • Great job man. The way you have the camera set up makes it real easy to see what you're doing. Once again great job!

  • @CMGS94 Thanks, glad you liked it!

  • good view! easy to track the fingers

  • fantastic job thanks for the riff friend

  • hÎhi_î_fÈel_sÖ_lØÑÉlý_tødây

  • Good angle, Im curious why you use your pinky where most guitarists would use the ring finger in this riff. Guess its just personal feel.

  • Im 14, i can play Enter Sandman by Metallica- learning the solo, ive been playing for a year and a half now, would you say that i could learn this song riff within a month or so?

  • THAT'S THE WAY YOU DO IT!!!

  • this is wrong

  • they main riff part goes from 5th to 7th fret, not 7 to 5th like you did, and when you go back to the 3rd one, de 5-7 part should be played once, and then when you hit 3 pull of on it. when you do it youll think, yes that's the right sound.

  • that aaaaaaaaaain't workin.

  • The "player's eye view" is ingenious and superb. Nearly all guitar lessons on Youtube are laboured and boring - even when the playing may be fine. Your approach is just like I've learned it myself - only massively accelearated and without all the hard work! I'm off to subscribe now, thanks very much indeed.

  • Nice job and guitar tone! A great lesson, with a novel and very useful camera angle. Comments on our version of Money for Nothing very welcome, at: loosecovers.blogspot.com

  • What about the bleeps? that the riff has harmonics or something. You can hear them resonant on the original.

  • some things were done reverse form :S or without the right touch, ill make one on what i mean when i have a cam.

  • tabs?

  • Sorry, this aerial view just robs this video from being a help to many. Please shoot your videos from a front plain view. If I were at your house visiting with you, and you were to show me a lick, I would sit in plain view across from you. I would not walk behind you and look over your shoulder to see the lick.

  • Now get on that stage sir

  • Make another one that shows your picking hand.......

  • master

  • "I should of learned, to play the guitar. I should of learned, to play them drums" :D

  • You sir, are the master of making guitar instructional videos.

If everyone simply made their videos like this, from this view than I would have back

so much time that I've wasted watching people slowly

    explain shit

  • @Sincoola27 Thank you very much, I'm happy to have been of some assistance to you!

  • That's how a "how to play"-video should be ... no dump talking, just playing and showing !!! thanks!

  • @Aquenissa It takes different strokes for different folks, but I'm glad you liked my attempt, cheers!

  • @nickeax cool... that's the best version if all attempts i have seen here.

  • dire straits sind die besten

  • @StefanGamer And this ist far from their best, IMHO!

  • @nickeax sry man i havent post hier anything !!!

  • Look at them yo-yos, that's the way you do it ;)

  • @Tuscuttar Exactly! bounce bounce bounce!

  • the only one who made the video of how to play money for nothing right..

    thanks man >:3

  • @JyherC Cheers mate, glad you found it useful!

  • thank you :)))

  • @JyherC You're welcome friend.

  • Man Go and wach your hands :S

  • @D1reStra1ts I work in the factory all day so I can afford nice slippers!

  • @Hulsee7 fuck off its amazing

  • @Silverado84P thanks!

  • this is the most amazing way to show how to play..thanks buddy.

  • @nuaurea You're very welcome sir!

  • HEY!! REALY GOOD!! THIS SONG ITS A CLASSIC!! A B IG ABRAÇO, FROM B RAZIL!!

  • That is the first time I've seen anyone make a guitar instruction video from that camera angle, and I have to say "that's the way you do it". I'm a lefty so I have to reverse it, but if your right handed that's what you see when you look down at your fretboard. Good job.

  • man i wish i could do that!! mark knopfler 4 ever

  • why do not you Master Exploder? is very good that song but with the only

  • man! you are wonderful ... I have no idea how you do it oh and your guitars and amps or chords are excellent

  • i dont get it....... this makes no sense, please fill in more on the right hand technique and please post some tabs

  • @snakekc18 i practised abit on some own techniques, and i think ive got it now, altohugh as a beginner im a bit rusty :P

  • Quick question, this is my first time trying to see if I can learn how to play a guitar and I love this song so..

Towards the end when you go 7--57785-7... (at 1:28), are you doing one string at 8 or two? Can't really tell. I'm writing this out in a way that makes sense to my brain. Normal tabs don't work with it. ^_^

  • In the 80s I was auditioning guys for my band and the guy I chose taught me this riff, he turned out to be a real sleezebag whose motivation for joining our band was to hijack our drummer. Once it became obvious what he was planning I strangled the fucker and threw his corpse into a sink hole.My conscience troubled me for a while but his two Fender Deluxe amps & USA Tele Custom helped me rationalize his murder. Still have the occasional nightmare after hearing this song, don't play it much.

  • Not only are you a master of the fretboard, you are a master of the trolls as well. Thanks for sharing this video.

  • @blackmayonnaise888 Thanks for watching!

  • genio

  • whats with your 3rd finger?

  • @Angusyoungist You're welcome!

  • your hands look dirty

  • @beakon7 That is because they're controlled by my mind.

  • @beakon7 Is that all u can say dumbass. His hands dont look dirty. Nice video

  • @beakon7 thats because he used them to fist your mom last night.

  • @mikeyvankoney Please don't make dirty comments like that. You don't even know this person's mother and you don't know how hard she begged me to do it.

  • The real trick about this riff is the right hand technique, which you did not mention at all.

  • @hideare Here, have some huggles. :)

  • @Angusyoungist Threat 5 he play.

  • hi men that was great,I want to know what kind of effect you use for that song i give you five strars

  • hi men that was great,I want to know what kind of effect you use for that song

  • @holydrummberman I used a 'wah', but I left it in one position.

  • The popularity of this vid puts MFN in the The Smoke On The Water territory!

    Good lesson!

  • @djangolad Thanks for the encouragement fella!

  • hey! y do it better but i cant upload a video...

  • @NatJurgenmotion Hello, thanks a lot for you comment. It is in fact rather pointless though.

    Cheers anyway buddy!

  • Thanks! Sounds great. Maybe you already answered this, but how do I get this tone? Sounds very very close to the org.

  • @WalterSobchakBowler I used a wah pedal set in a fixed position. Just play around until you find the right spot.

  • this is basicly dead on. good job.

  • @m14lover1 Thanks for saying so!

  • sounds pretty good to me

  • @gorg0004 Cheers mate!

  • Hey maybe show your picking hand to on the next video

  • @kaboom6899 That seems like a reasonable idea, thanks for the tip.

  • Hey i was just wonderin r u n eric clapton related cos ur both a steaming pile of dog shit just wondering !

  • @lurch8686 Hi, thanks for your comment. In answer to your question, no. I am not related to Eric Claptout. I do however agree that I'm a steaming pile of dog shit.

    Cheers buddy!

  • This is good stop bitching people

  • great tutorial, no nonsense...nicely done!

  • nice perspective easier to pick up

  • good job this riff was my favorite part out of the whole song

  • could you tell me the tuning?

  • SUPER!!!10/10*

  • because there is no way that you "should" play guitar.

  • Great job; thanks for slowing it down as well. Gets the primary sounds and chords across that works for party playing. I'll work on adding the other details later but this starter info was very helpful!

  • A real "Teacher" wouldn't say "Not even close". Waiting for YOUR video response.

  • Don't worry about it, but thanks for the defense! :)

  • Not even close....almost every part is wrong.Nearly though and I've heard a lot worse! Btw I'm a guitar teacher...

  • I think I know what you mean!

  • No such thing as 'wrong' with this song. Even Mark Knopfler played it differently every time he played it. Good effort

  • 1 yes there is this is wrong and mostly Mark plays it very similarly everytime. Never as the original studio version granted but it definately ain't this. I will be posting soon on how to do it properly.

  • there is a difference between improvising and using the same fingering

  • @Templar7832 ehh, proud? this guy is really good so dont camplane! i bet that he is better then you! and please make a video respnse so we an see how you play it..

  • What strings do you play one??

  • I 'think' they were D'Adarios. Usually .010.

  • You don't play correctly one of elements in this intro. You should look what plays Mark Knopfler and correct this

  • Thanks for spotting that. I'll remove the video and remake it properly.

  • great!

    just what i needed!!

  • Oh good! :)

  • thanks man u helped me alot and im only 11 thanks again your awesome

  • I'm very glad, cheers. :)

  • Gracias loco !

  • great! im a beginner but got the hang of it really quickly!

  • I'm glad. I'm never sure if my videos will help or hinder.

  • umm...you should play the guitar on the MTV :)

  • Ha ha, thanks mate. :)

  • @extrafalario35 Yeah, that's the way you do it, get your guitar on the mmmteevee

  • Excellent!!! Thank you!

  • You're very welcome.

  • This is a great way to teach 5*

  • Thanks!

  • can You send me tabs ? i know, that i can find them on google etc but you've got the best tabs for mfn i have ever seen. so i want them :) could You send me this or give me a page where i can find it ?

  • On my site.

  • I entered Your profile but i did't find anything. so i didn't find YOur site. can You put address here ?

  • ha ha ha

  • huh ?

  • lol, more gain less distortion

  • Don't get all technical.

  • jamlesalisbury grow up get a f---life

  • lol, grow up and get a sense of humor! Im just kidding! And i was talking to dowfreak7 after he asked how to get that sound on his pedal,

  • I learned it on regular tuning but I must try it on G tuning, gives it more balls.

The tone is quite simple to get but you must start with a '58 Les Paul, or equivalent humbucker equipped axe, through an "all valve" amp, back off the tone on your axe then add reverb/delay whatever,....according to taste.

Most of the tone comes from the guitar/amp combination any effects pedals you may add are merely just sprinking a bit of "fairy dust".

Don't rely on pedals too much use your amp and axe.

  • ok wtf your saying before I learn this tune I have to buy a 58 les paul an all valve amp eh will I have to buy a big touring bus ? grow up ffs

  • Well done nickeax brilliant cover

  • OPEN TUNING?

    Did Knofler use G open?

  • Yes.

  • can someone please tell me how i get that sound with a pod 2.0

im really new to that electric-guitar-multi-effect-thingy and could need some help

not even google gave me a good answer, so if anyone, who knows some stuff about the pod, could tell me how to use it right, i would be very thankful

  • Comment removed

  • Just use an overdrive preset for now. ;)

  • sry to ask but

    HOW

i cant find an overdrive setting in the description and my pod doesnt have any usb input boxes, so i cant download something

  • playing that slow i mean. like at the end.

  • that sounds awesome man. especially playing like that.

  • Ta.

  • do you think you could post the tabs

  • yeah

  • WRONG!

  • nice angle, thanks man

  • Sounds good to me .. Cool vid !

  • Sorry but this is not the way to play it. It is much more complex than this... A lot of notes are missing.

It can be helpful for beginers anyway...

  • muy bien¡¡

  • dude awsome, hav you got the tabs i wuld really appreciate them

  • Dude great vid.

    You got tab for this?

  • I think so.

  • could u post em or send the tab to me? (:

  • its really good playing but you need to find some kind of way to tell witch string your playing.

  • I'll give you a clue: I'm only plucking two strings at a time.

  • Its wrong right from the 2nd note , the lesson has some licks which are right but there is alot missing , better to learn it right the first time and this is poor...

  • pOR QUE COLOCARAM A CAMERA DE CANEÇA PRA BAIXO?

  • Excellent tone, excellent playing, great lesson, and this is a badass song. 5/5

  • You should look some tutorial on "how to make movies".

It helps understand something called perspective. Try shooting from the top. You can't see what string you're picking.

  • I think I know what you mean!

  • You do? great.

Because you did well on the notes, and that's the same way I think knopler do.

    Cheers

  • Just pick the same string he frets, or if it sounds open figure it out.

  • To me, it's important to teach people well. I attempt to appeal only to the right audience with my videos and sometimes I leave out basic information. If you find you can't follow one of my videos, it may mean that you aren't ready to.

  • There's always some SMART ARSE who thinks he can do it better,

It's not a friggin' performance man, he's just trying to teach you how to play it and he's got it right. Of course we all add our own bits and pieces to speed up the technique etc etc.

Actually I learned this method while auditioning a second guitarist for a band I was attempting to put together. Trouble was they were all much better than I but I learned so much in those couple of weeks.

  • that is the most correct sounding version i've heard that isn't played by mark knopfler. tabs, please!

  • that does not make sence at all

  • And neither does your spelling johnmngn.

Once again he's got it right, why would anyone need tablature to learn this riff leaves me baffled. It's rock music not Chopin.. Slow it down if you need but it's pretty simple,..if you can play I.E.

  • Hate to be a critic, but you should use the ring finger more. You'll be able to do other stuff faster with it. Sound would be better on a Gib, However I'm a strat man myself. I do think this guy is a great teacher and I like the POV vid. I wish other teachers would do this. Overall, Id give this video an awsome.

  • when you play it , it looks so simple but can i teach it if i dunno anything about playing a guitar??? my brother has one and i d like to learn to play this cos i like this song so much or at least it would be interesting just to try :) but tell me what do you think is it possible and where to find more tips and some basics?? thx

  • Your fingers won't know what to do! I'd recommend learning to play an instrument through a proper guided method. Start with basic music knowledge, then use exercises and simple songs to build your knowledge and skill. In six months, you'll be very glad you did it this was, as you'll be able to then play anything you like. Visit guitaraustralia . com for my free lessons if you wish.
