@jcane28eatsfatpuss Actually, the whole weird clown motif was because some reviewers, who obviously weren't in on the joke, called them "fascist clowns," believing they were advocates for de-evolution. Jerry Casale and Bob Motherbaugh thought the idea of "Fascist Clowns" was so funny they made an album poking fun at the whole idea/misconception.

At a party back in the 1980s, someone had funky glasses and said he would give $50 to the best Devo impersonation. I got up, put on the glasses, promptly acted out Mark Mothersbaugh's mannerisms while singing this song, and left the party with $50. Oh, and I got laid, by a weird hippy chick who looked like the crazy girl in the Men Without Hats "Safety Dance" video. Now you know why I love this song.
