This song as originally written (by costello performed by allison kraus) for the movie Cold Mountain is a statement regarding wars in general. The effects it has on the ones left at home and the ones who start wars are addressed. When performing this song live, Costello has put in the "bring the boys back home" lyrics, not in the original arrangment, to put his personal political spin on it. Performing this in Tenn with the added words probably made him nervous enough to screw it up at 2:00!!!!
Lied about what???!!! WMD to start with. Powell knowingly lied in front of the UN with Bush's blessing.
I was talking about this song, not about what Costello "once said". I'll accept the 911 perpetrators were "evil".
But Bush - who is responsible for far more deaths and suffering than Bin Laden - is evil with a dumb smiling face and the blessing of the - then - misguided American people.
But I don't find any evidence of a conspiracy theory in this song.
There's no evidence that Powell "knowingly lied in front of the U.N with Bush's blessing." That's pure conspiracy theory.
Costello seems to be saying that the cause of the Iraq War is some vaguely rapacious desire to "want everything." It's this notion of a cabal of Capitalists meeting in secret and starting wars to increase their profit. So silly.
There is only one Elvis for me. He is prolific.

Lied about absolutely everything to wage his personal war upon Iraq, which had NOTHING to do with 9/11

Lied about what?
Costello once described the 91l scum as "desperate." Is it so hard to call them evil?
Oh, but it's very easy to call Bush evil.
Beautiful lyrics and melody, but in substance conspiratorial nonsense.
