It's really hard watching this movie. My parents were survivors of that horrific event whereas i was born in country and time that would never come close to that. It really makes me appreciate what i have and the hardships i won't have to endure for it.
why didnt the director based the film on Kieu Chinh's life and not some ordinary family doing extra ordinary things?? this would perhaps tell the audience what saigon was like before the war. Instead all we got was the sad bit at the end of a complex war when every thing was just fucked up.
The Vietnam communist will must pay the price in the near future. Thanks to the world internet, that people can speak freely of their mind. I was one of them escape from the communist, fortunately, I brought my whole family out of the country. I was on a small F10-Yanmar cross the ocean to Indonesia in 4 days. All my kids never remember this story but thanks to this movie that I can tell to them in more detail.
This is a real deal. The communist forced people leave the country. The communist moves in and claims their left behind properties. The south vietnamese paid the prices for pirates, and their lifes for freedom. I was one of the lucky one and I do thanks God for that.
