Yep I noticed that too. Book scanning won't be easy. I use a standalone scan bed in another system to take care of that. I can even take off the cover to scan books easy.
I'm going to get this printer ... this Model is nice not all Epson printers are great ..it's all about what Epson model you you get ...that go's for anything though T.V. ect...
One thing I would change with the Epson Artisan 800/810 is the recessed glass scanner. Try scanning a page from a large book and you will see you can't lay it flat because the scanner is recessed into the unit.
I have emailed Epson hoping that they will correct that in a future model, I hope they do. Other then that, it's an excellent all-in-one.
