Ive got an old model 19 from the late 30's that I bought off an old timer and I found a box of INDEPENDENCE 158 gr loads Im a little nervous to use in such an old gun..most Ive ever used in it so far is 125 gr.....but the walls and the cylinder in your beast look really thick......

@RiqueRossDaBoss i dont have the gun anymore, but if i remember corectly, i paid around $900 for the gun when it came out in 2008, it came with an aluminum brushed fancy case, the comfy Rummer grip , and also a RED- wooden grip that looks awsome, but will give your hand a workout
@shoesize15w I can hit the target 3 times accurately with a .357 before most can recover from the one shot recoil of a .500. Also, the .357 has been documented in taking down bear= cannon. Furthermore, I have worked in a hospital and seen the ballistic nightmare from a .357. It is a balance of devastating power and practical handling. It is very much a real man's gun and far from whimpy.
@shoesize15w the desert eagle sucks its horrible in real life situations if you want power go .44 , .45 , or .454 those are controllable man stoppers.

I've owned this model for a couple of years now. One of the nicest features of these Performance Center 627's is their trigger pull. Most Smiths have a smooth single action trigger pull. Where this model stands out is in its double action trigger pull. It has no equal in my humble opinion.

Thats an N frame .357 right? I have the L frame 686 but I have just taken an interest in this one. I know its pricey but this is an excellent combat .357. Good for home defense or keeping it in your car. I believe all the steel on this model is forged too, making it extra tough.

You're thinking of the 686 Plus which is an 7-shot .357 (the 686 would be the standard six shooter). While I've never seen one in person, the S&W performance center certainly does make an 8-shot .357. It's quite expensive, being made of some fancy alloy that very strong & light -- which I guess is needed to allow for such thin cyliner walls. The only other 8-shot .357 I know of is or was made by Taurus and built on a .44 Mag frame, so it had a huge cylinder to start with.

ummm, I think so...I know eventually they were police issued and replaced the standard 38 revolvers. Not to long after S&W released the .44 though. It was probably the most powerful in production, but look it up I am not sure.

Great Looking Gun. Smith & Wesson Revolvers are the Best. You can't beat a S & W in 357 Magnum for an all purpose gun, 38's for practice and plinking and 357's for more serious matters. Enjoy your Model 627.
