The first time I saw this movie I didn't like it all nor could I understand 90% of what Robert Downey said. Seeing it again now about a year or so later I did like it a lot better this time. And I thought Jude's and Robert's banter was the best part of the show. I still can't understand about 60% of what Robert says, but it was much better this time around.

This film has nothing to do with the real Sherlock Holmes stories and character described by A.Conan Doyle. A typical cliche american action. If you want to get an idea of what Holmes was, read the stories of Conan Doyle or watch the Granada series starring Jeemy Brett, for he was the ONLY convincing Holmes

Well, he may have obsessions, an odd habits, may be a cocaine user, violin player and so on, but it doesn't mean that every one who was odd habits, obsessions, is a violin player and cocaine addict may be presented as Sherlock Holmes. Besides, RDJ has neither the phisical aspect nor manners of Holmes described by Doyle.

Everyone, Think of your mental image of Holmes from the books(If you haven't read them, well, you've proven my point). If your mental idea of Holmes is Jeremy Brett, then picture him(not my personal choice, but it works).
Now, can ANYONE in their wildest minds imagine Holmes EVER responding like in this scene from the movie:

I don't really like how Robert Downey Jr. portrayed Sherlock Holmes. He got the spontaneity of him down but I don't think he quite got the cool, clever genius of a man that Holmes is.
@FayeSkye I am a fan of him as an actor, but I agree. He could have been a bit smoother, but I think Guy Ritchie was going for a different "take", so to speak, on Sherlock's personality. Namely, the side of him that was kind of a bloody bohemian wreck.
This film was genious. It was the first I'd seen Robert Downy Jr. in I fell in love with the actor. I decided to watch Ironman and fell in love with his actual personality 2 bcuz in the movie and in real life he & his character Tony Stark are strikingly similar haha :) Anyways, all my <3 to this genious actor and his AMAZING co-stars! conan doyle actually write 60 amazing thrillers that had mystery and a complex, womderful guy named Sherlock Holmes, all of which deserves an on-screen adaptation. But whats the POINT of writing a totally different movie which has nothing in common with Doyles' series but the characters names. Even their personality is so damn altered!
Expect lots of mystery and puzzles to be solved in this, and also a gang of great players. The storyline is very well? written, with plenty going on. Definitely great action. Watch this on Pãtuly!

Holmes's character is very similar (obsessions, violin, cocaine, odd habits, etc).
Watson lives with Holmes, moves out when he marries Mary.
Work with Scotland Yard as a PI-like person, not an official.
If anything, Watson is the most different and the plot is a bit fantastical.
I AM reading the original Adventures, so I can cite specific stories if you desire. Downey Jr. may not be the best, but he is a good Sherlock Holmes.

I just saw this movie today and i enjoyed it even though i havent read any of the books. I wanted to see
Robert d. jr. that was mostly the reason why i went to see this film, and he delivered. He was absolutely perfect for the
role of Sherlock and Jude played Watson really well.
