I took this album to a Muddy Waters show at the Marble Bar in Baltimore MD. (1979) and got Muddy and the band to sign it. James Cotton stopped in unannounced . He played with them for second show James Cotton signed it also. Five years later, it went with me to Consitution Hall in DC to see Johnny Winter and he sighned it too! It may be the only one in the world with every artists signature, framed with the ticket stubs!! ps.- NOT FOR SALE
I LOVE this song.I remember listening to this on the Risky Business movie.I have the soundtrack on cassette with this song on it at home.Hope to get it on CD.Awesome song.
il blues parla sovente di tragedie intime...ci sono però quelli che io chiamo i "blues di autostima" questo di Muddy waters e Bo Diddley ne è il manifesto..
No other version come close!!!! This is the first one I ever heard as a child, and no other one gets it right like this......I'm a mannnnnn...........a child...N son! going the EFF OFFf!!
i like all the Chess stuff Muddy did, but I've always enjoyed the Bluebird stuff more. It just had more punch. Muddy and Johnny Winter were just a perfect fit.
Muddy Waters | Mannish Boy | Hard Again | w/ Johnny Winter | 1977 | ....Okay, that's it. No more. This is the climax for me. Can't listen to another blues tune again...not even a Muddy one...not for a long, long time. Phew!
An appeal to twentysomethings: Destroy your TV, destroy garbage of pop music. Ad fontes, my Dears, ad fontes! After all, we're creating culture. We're creating future.
Wow! Glad to find this today. Loved it since nearly the first time I heard this version, if not the first. Passionate and powerful, and it shows that Muddy kept the faith of the Blues all his life. Amazing!!! Thank you!!!
i do agree with u and admit i got carried away,,,its just that every other version left me hangin,,,,this is the 1rst version of i ever heard back in 81
One of many, many, many reasons I love the blues... When there's someone yelling and shouting while he's playing, you KNOW there's some feeling in it.
@ohso41 your comment is the exact opposite of what the blues are all about friend. it's about expression, and trying to box the definition of the blues into some nice little box that you like is not the point. the blues is not white, black, brown, whatever...anyone can feel it. the mississippi delta is not the blues and the blues is not the mississippi delta. SRV baby!
There is NOTHING better than THIS version of THIS song anywhere. Johnny Winter's respect and love for Muddy brought out the definitive Blues performance. You need look no further, this is the one. Muddy is the man - "no B".
This has been a favorite album of mine for years. It's raw, basic blues. Johnny Winter was instrumental in the making of this. And harmonica by James Cotton, it's a blues lovers dream album!!
thank you, thank you, thank you for posting this. Muddy did a ba-zillion versions of this song, but this one is my all-time favorite. It is perfect. Stripped to the bone, pure, and with impeccable production values. Very tough to pull off. The riff is atavistic. Heard once, it is never forgotten.
I thought it was obvious that this is the best version, but couldn't find it either on youtube or any other place. I really don'y know why, cause it's really really good! thanks!

I prefer the original version (This version just sounds too white- thanks to the overdrive on the guitar and Johnny Winter's shouting)
And yes I'm a white guy--but authentic Mississippi Delta blues is strictly reserved for those who are born with a "Negro Soul"
