Trans/Re-ac-tor/Landing on Water... 3 albums frustratingly underrated. In my opinion, all better than Stars'N'Bars, Freedom and a lot of the newer stuff. As for the video... nothing says 'Neil Young' like a totally baffled 80s audience. Love it!!! Now I just want a live, heavy version of Shots...
I own a Quiex II pressing of "Trans" on vinyl and it sounds just amazing with that nice fat chunky sound coming from Old Black. "Trans" is not "Harvest" or "After The Gold Rush" but nonetheless is a very cool album just the same. "Perfection In Every Detail..."
Neil doesn't give a rat's arse what his audience thinks, which is GREAT! If he opened just one mind by doing stuff like this, it was probably worth it.
I wonder......if Legion from Mass Effect 2 were a character that Shepard could have a relationship with, would this be the song Legion uses to get in the mood?
Kick ass! I remember seeing this in the HBO concert back in 83. My parents recorded it, and as a kid this made quite the impact on me. Saw this and it brought me back almost 30 years! Ordered the DVD just now!
The whole concert on HBO, blew me away. This was way futuristic in '82 as far as I was concerned and Computer Age as well. I now have the dvd. Absolutely AWESOME!!!
The guy playing keyboards has a Synclavier II as his top keyboard, which was at the time a $40,000 synthesizer (double that in 2010 dollars). Insane to take such an expensive synthesizer on tour? Neil and his band took two of them!
Love it how there is a few guys in the crowd punching the air and everyone else is sat perfectly still, in full WTF mode. Great video, thanks for uploading. I love this period of Neil's music, he should have gone all the way with the Trans album and left off the few tracks without vocoders/synths. If he did that I could forgive "Landing On Water".
@Bilbicus : Hey, I love Landing on Water... The drummer on that album, really makes it for me; Steve Jordan is an amazing musician, and those beats funk hard!
@VoiceEncoder I also thought for sure that it was the Moog Vocoder...but I read in Dave Tompkin's book 'How to Wreck a Nice Beach' that it is the Sennheiser Vocoder VSM201!!!
Fkin love Neil Young

The hard-edged quality of the music shines through, whether you call it RAWK or call it 01010010 01000001 01010111 01001011 ...

Trans is actually my favourite Neil Young album lol. If the majority of people hate something I generally find that reason enough to like it.

Sennheiser Vocoder VSM201, NOT the Moog 16-Channel Vocoder that I and others erroneously believed!!!

A song that is an advert for a company that sells robot girlfriends. And I thought Neil did do sponsorships. Neil is God, Trans rules!

I love it (first time hearing it), but I know back in the 80s when the B.S. fans heard this, they must have wanted to lynch him!

I love the way he says "ONE ONE OHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhh" in this live version better than on the album one.

Love it at 1:11 where he is looking sideways at the camera .... looks so alien. Sunglasses, hair rustling in the breeze, strange tilt to his head.
