XD This song makes me feel kinda bad, because I am the kind of person who can't watch a show without indulging a horrible nagging need to look up behind-the-scenes features and interviews to figure out what the cast and crew thought of it. It almost makes me nervous if I don't know.

Still, that aside, I love this song anyway. :) Charybdis testing well with teens and "You're making everybody mis" especially. ;)

Hell no! I also feel that Dollhouse episodes are somehow forced in production. If we take Firefly episodes - it's pure greatness, whereas Dollhouse has only flashes of greatness. I still enjoy the show (even though russians are presented there in the usual villianious way) but i know it can be so much better. I'm so relieved there was nobody to manipulate Joss at the production of Dr Horrible.

That's us. NOT FOX. So, I think it's bashing FOX, but also saying to the fans, "hey! Just enjoy it!". I agree with the bashing FOX thing but not the latter thing. But, I think it's pretty obvious that this song is not looking very highly on the fans.

@CommentaryTheMusical I have to agree with bendude606. I've been in fandom over 20 years and that's all most fans do; pick things apart, over analyze everything, etc. Now there's "shipping" too. I mean individual fans here. But when I became friends with an actor who did popular SF I started understanding. The job of acting is hard and when someone nitpicks it's frustrating and irritating. Fans insist a show/movie should be done like this. It gets to be a bit much for them. But they love fans.

I actually agree that his annoyance goes both ways: to FOX, who make him change his initial ideas, and to fans, who try to reason every thing in his works. Joss himself said, that he doesn't like shows like Lost, where there is always a reason. He prefers to concentrate on character development, rather than giving answers on how and why. You made a great point.

Yeah, but I think Joss should honestly be humbled that people like his work so much to understand what he's saying. I mean, fans aren't the only ones who analyze art. Reviews, critics, hell, in school, we analyze all these books to death.

I think it's great Joss doesn't give the answers "how and why" all the time, but if he does that, he shouldn't expect fans not to discuss and debate about the "how and why".

This song is a brilliant tightrope that manages not to condemn either phenomenon and leaves the message open to interpretation. Obviously, I think it's brilliant. :)

I guess it's the most touching and inquiring song of the commentary. It's a kind of creative riot against all the people (from FOX mostly) who try to conrol his art and measure it somehow. After all it's all about telling stories, not sellind DVDs

I think he can make some comments on the way we lose sight of the story in all the extras, without making dig at his fans. As NYBound said, he seems pretty cool about his fan base (from what I've seen on interviews).

It's more a call to enjoy the arts rather than spend time acting snobbish discussing them.

Anytime you saw a kid wide eyed watching a sci-fi show, that's doing it right. Anytime you see a snobby art critic, or a teacher who's a nazi about the Classic epics, or a geeky kid spouting his superior knowledge of canon to make someone else look ignorant in comparison... that's doing it wrong.

So be a fan to your heart's content, because you enjoy it! Just don't take it too seriously.
