That was the *beauty* of the couple. Fakir loved the 'real' Ahiru, not the false one. Ahiru didn't need to change for him. Rue didn't need to change for Mytho either.

I bet anyone who hasn't seen this anime before would be greatly confused watching this awesome anime.

In some scenes, Mytho is dancing with Rue (Who at first glance seems evil), then he's dancing with Ahiru. (Who is obviously good)

Then, we see him in his raven outfit with Kraehe, and fighting Fakir.

In another scene, they're dancing together. (Mytho and Fakir.)

It really makes you wonder... in a silly, funny kind of way.

I found the ending very happy *Spoilers*For one Rue (the princess of the story) got her prince, the Mytho got his heart back and beat his enemy, Although Ahiru stayed a duck you must remember that who she truly was in the first place, and Fakir STILL stayed with her. That is true love in my opinion *spoilers end* Sounds like it ended well to me.

That's what makes Princess Tutu so amazing. It still retains it's bitterness even in a happy ending, which makes it so much more believable than "They all lived happily ever after forever." That's what I think, anyways. Also, think about how they used animals in place of people throughout the whole series. I think there's some symbolism in the fact that Ahiru stayed as her "true" self.
