this is replicated in titty bars perfectly. when the place is dead and there's like 3 guys and 20 girls, the girls arent motivated and they just mostly smoke cigs, pack up, and go home. its when there is actuallya higher guy to girl ratio when things get interesting. and when the place is packed ... watch out! ... and more girls usually come in when they hear the place is teeming over. totally counterintuitive, yet completely true, every time.
i would think the same of the education system. More students stress about their GPA, less knowledge did they ACTUALLY acquire in the long run, since they focus on short term results. wonder if anyone has done any research on that...
