  • I used to refer to the assault frigates as "Mike Tysons."

  • my childhood game... awesome!

  • i downloaded my 'homeworld' on windows 7 and it still works!

  • can you pilot a ship in dish game?

  • How is it that I have never played this game! I downloaded the demo back in the day, however.

  • I say we should take the shattered horizon method for space sound. Have an advanced computer in your space suite create an simulation of everything around you and put in sounds to make it seam more realistic.

  • I hate to correct sierra, but is there no sound in space ?!

  • @sereda008 This is the conflict between being realistic and entertaining. Sure it is supposed to be no sound in space, but in terms of gameplay, noone wants to play a game with no sound.

  • @kanhf0514 I know that much, but would it not be better to invent a device on the ships which detects the slightest vibration around itself and recognizes the mas sound? Something like in the first splinter cell, where the player looked at a window and could hear people beside it. I was recently thinking about what I would do if I were creating homeworld, and this was an idea.

Ah, never mind. This is somewhat off-topic.

  • @kanhf0514 there IS sound in space, but we can't observe it's existence without the air that we rely on here on earth to vibrate the sound to us

  • @thedoomreaperco

There is no sound in a vacum. It doesn't have a anything from which it can be produced, like you said on earth sounds medium is air, space doesn't have a source from which sound can travel much less created.

  • @kanhf0514 They could have just added music.

  • @kanhf0514 there actually is some sort of "sound" in space, its jsut that we cant hear it with our ears. now hate me for that comment :D

  • @sereda008 Turn off your speakers :P They probably should have an option of Full Sound, Muffled Sound, and Realistic Space Sound.

  • @sereda008 also your in a suit that has oxygen in it so prolly there for you will hear sounds from inside like if u get hit you'll hear it. or maybe someone besides u get hit you'll prolly hear in my point of view

  • @MrUssrparadox Yes, I have considered that, but it is too obvious to think long about. Perhaps the general sound of each spaceship is monitored, filtered to reduce any usual sound and transmitted to the main computer (the player's).

  • @sereda008 You know, I allways ponder about the movies and games with sound in the space. Currently there exists ways to "listen" the sun, or even distant black holes. They emit certain stuff, like X-ray and radio signals. We capture these and turn them into regular audio. If a civilizacion is so advanced to make a craft surely they could use devices which would capture the emitions produced by engines, weapons, and even explosions and turn them into regular sounds with speakers in the cockpit

  • @Rapanui5 why would anyone do that

  • @bierbuik to provide the pilot of a ship (it would be more useful in fighters) with an extra sense in the space.

  • @sereda008 no There is no sound in space because there is no air for the sound waves to travel through

  • @sereda008 No air = no molecules to vibrate = no sound.

  • @Galifron I know. But still, sound would be possible by detecting the vibration on the surfaces of the ships using special apparatus, as I have stated. No medium is necessary.

  • The graphics are still beautiful, even if technologically outdated.

  • EXCELLENT music choice! Love that track. I hear that it was originally from the trailer of a cancelled babylon 5 based space combat simulator, but I haven't found the trailer containing it.

  • how do you speed up gameplay ? sick of waiting for the resourcer to do it's rounds. i know it can be done but can't remember what the key (s) for it where not played this game in a long time

  • @TheSisko1 This function is only in Honeworld Catalysm.

  • @kanhf0514 i had the homeworld one when it came out and i accidentely found the speed up gameplay button, i now it existed coz i used it regular to speed up the harvester, ive never owned homeworld 2 so that's how i know the feature was in number 1

  • @TheSisko1 He did it afterwards, when he made the video, he sped it up so that it would only take half as long.

  • Remember playing this on lan when it was released, the graphics were awesome back then

  • @nWirb Even until now, I still think the graphic is acceptable.

  • I need to play u sometime.

  • what is the best game ? Homeworld or Company of Heroes??

  • @12guynextdoor they're completely different types of RTS

  • @12guynextdoor dude, what's better, goldfish or snail?

  • @aznofmusic Lol scouts

  • I love playing this, used to tear kids apart with attack bombers back in the day.

  • better than Ogame

  • LOL WTF SUP3R ELITE EVE ONLINE 4MATIONS!! SUP3R L33T HAXORZ HOW CAN I GET DOSE WICK3D 4MATIONS!?!?!?!?!

  • need to add more homeworld gameplay vides maby ill get it

  • i miss this game so much D=

  • battlezone and halflife where my fav games wen i was a kid i would play all the time wen i was 6 - 9 but then i lost the games... but i dont understand why battlezone was soo good and fun i dont remember anything about it... and theres no gameplay of it on here

  • Comment removed

  • @teranfoong it is released in 1999, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War is released in 2004, it doesn't make sense to compare these two games.

  • @kanhf0514

lol you reply sure was fast.

Sorry i just removed my comment cause its lame.

    Its pretty amazing in 1999.

  • This was my favorite game! It was great.

  • who actually mistakes the game homeworld for eve? HOW DO YOU GET THOSE FORMATIONS IN EVE XD anyway but still, homeworld is awsome, play it, and grab a handkerchief for the ending....and a fresh pair of pants just in case

  • this is the best game ever made...in the history of the universe.

  • Not to spam or anythign but does anyone know of a vid that can get me Homeworld 2 free? thnx,

Homeworld 1 seems like a good game, never played it before thats why im going to play itfirst then try Homeworld 2

  • This game looks shit, yet again...I shouldn't judge a book by it's cover...and so many people are saying this is amazing.

  • the graphics were over the top in 1999

  • @frenchersfriers Yeah, they do look quite nice.

  • dude, this game was made in 1999, and it's STILL the best RTS game there is!

  • I don't see what's fun about it, I don't see what's fun about EVE online either. xD

  • THen why are you watching this video.

  • Because I wanted to see what all the hype was about. -_-

  • if you don't like stragy games you might not

  • @TheZombiePanda

Its strategy. People like you are not meant to understand it. Thats why there's games like MW1 to keep you away from the good genre :)

  • @TheWapower Calm down, people have been constantly commenting me starting arguments for 3 months straight, I only said I don't see what's good, it doesn't mean I think it's shit...it just means I'm yet to experience this game.

  • @TheZombiePanda those people who start arguments are "Trolls" (Internet slang, I didn't make the word) and its best to just ignore them, you'll save yourself a lot of trouble if you do. Homeworld is a decent game, I have yet to play it but I've seen several gameplay videos and reviews I look forward to picking up a copy soon. This video doesn't really show much about the game at all.

  • @mecampbellesq that's a hard generalization to make...it depends on what you're pointing towards that is "the best." xD

  • Evidentemente no has jugado a este juego, si te gustaran los RTSs no dirias lo mismo XD... otro palurdo que seguro mira antes los graficos antes que la jugabilidad.

  • Is the music from the game? It's amazingly good!

  • im gonna get this game so how is it? is it total war-like or...

also should i get this one or HW2? cuz 2 looks better

  • even though 1 month later here the answer:

imho homeworld 2 is better than 1, since i never figured out how to navigate in HW1

in HW2 you can zoom in and zoom out, and all in all move like in any strategiy game, but in HW1 the camera is always fixed on the unit you've selected

i hated that and stopped playing it after 20 minutes

it might be a good game, but this is a flaw i just can't lice with

  • @schootingstarr

Your a dumb ass! Clearly you never went through the tutorial, owned a mouse with a scroll wheel, or read the instruction manual. Go back to super smash bors.

  • @WoodlandRavah oh look at this butthurt fanboy

are you even able to communicate with someone that isn't your opinion? (throwing feces like a monkey is not what i call "communicate")

  • this game is awesome!!! I remember when I played this. Oh man. I miss this game. For being a 3D game at that time is brilliant. And It's so well made! the 3D room of the whole gaming world is HUUUUGE!!! this is one of those games there you truly is in space. I love this game 10/10!!! my cd broke some time ago. OMG I wish I could download it somewhere xD

  • Great video and music. Homeworld won game of the year for a reason.

  • Yeah there will. Have you played starcraft?

  • starcraft is decent gameplay wise, but storywise homeworld kicked it's ass. At least until starcraft 2 comes out, because starcraft 1 online is fucking irritating, whoever can click 150 times a minute wins, it's fucking annoying.

  • amen to that fuck starcraft online

  • Nothing will ever beat HW1 when it comes to RTS games. I miss WON :(

  • oh guys....i was like 8 when i played a demo of this game on my dads pentium 200MMX, it was laggy as hell but man o man i wanted the game so much, best space rts game in the 90's imo :) too bad whoever didn't hear of it.

  • What I love so much about this game is how the space combat is actually 3D. There are so many space RTSs out there that completely forget the 3D aspect of space and it just annoys me. It also makes the game get old fast.

  • @StarongBahd What I love about this game so much is Frickin' Ion Beams, and fact that there is a mod that lets you take control of a selected ship via Keyboard and mouse.

  • @StarongBahd sins of the solar empire has the 3d aspect as well. its awesome

  • @Kougeru no it does not.

I have played both. Solar empire has no 3D and it does not even have 2% of the strategic depth Homeworld had.

With homeworld you could walk in to a battle with 4 salvage corvettes and repair corvettes and win against a vastly superior fleet , just with clever micro management.

  • I've been going crazy latley, all these kids that come on here and have no idea what some of these games are. Don't get me wrong, im glad your finding them and getting enjoyment out of them as we did wehn we were younger, but it reminds me that im aging everytime i hear them say : whats Ghostbusters?? ARR how old am i ?

  • its nothing to do with your age, the reason they dont know what ghostbusters was is that they live under a rock most of there life xD

  • heh, thats borderline unacceptable, i suppose part of me just doesn't want to believe that.

  • Heeey.. I was playing StarCraft and Star Control when this came out... I was too busy to notice.

  • you appear to be an exception then.

  • dude i can't tell if your joking or not. but in case your not joking, 1984 is when Ghostbusters came out. No offense at all though man, I think your talking about the video game, of which you would probobly be right. But most people who know what ghostbusters is, would not mention the game before the movie.

  • nah nah nah i wasnt sure wen the movie cameout ive seen the movies lol XD

and most of my friends have seen the movies too so

  • Nice video, 5str

  • It is a very old game called Homeworld.

  • oh lols. so its not eve online? lols. but cools stuff nonetheless. whats the song called?

    cheers

  • I dont' know the name of the song, sorry.

  • Yeah graphic-wise homeworld cant compete with EVE online. Its still a really good game

  • Maybe that's because Homeworld was released in 1999?

  • Well I'm more than well aware of that. I don't believe that excuses it from some level of comparison.

  • Considering they're 4 years apart, then I do believe it does. Homeworld looked amazing when it first came out.

Computer standards were different back in 1999 as well.

  • Honestly I find Homeworlds gameplay more attractive then EVE onlines, having played both games. Homeworld was probably the first strategy game to feature dimensional movement in space. I know that Computers more than tripled in power between the release of Homeworld and EVE online, and they are in fact different types of games.
