Did you know that Tiger barbs get MORE aggressive if kept in pair numbers? I also happens if you keep a single Tiger barb by itself. Keep them in groups of 5, 7, 9, etc so they can be healthy.
i have a 5 gallon tank and am only a beginner and if anyone has some suggestions for fish to put in it that would be great(side note: i already have a beta in a bowl so i got that covered)
its sad that the world we live in, that nice buddhist is the highest rated comment... well you know what? i hope those fish take a nice big shit all over his head. how bout that thumbs up?
Tetras and barbs tend to nip on the fins of other fish and can get very semi-aggressive and bully other fish. They are gangster. I have Tiger barbs, Green Tiger barbs and Albino Tiger barbs, and they are mean. They school together and they look cute, but they also bite my gouramis and beta fish. If they see an exposed fin, they'll go for it. One of my Albino Tiger barbs has half of it's tail fin because of the other barbs' fin bitting obsession.
Sorry but bettas really shouldn't be in with tiger barbs... the fin nipping can get so serious that your betta can actually bleed to death. Also what tetras are you refering to? I'm only aware of Serpae, Black widow and occasionaly black phantom tetras being nippy, most other tetras are very peaceful and do fine in community tanks.
My Crown Tail Betta is doing great. I have a floating plant and it uses it as his home and it doesn't let other fish come close to it. He is actually is meaner than the Barbs. I tried having a Dbl. Crown tail in my tank but he was so slow that they all picked on him, so I gave it to a friend. This one did fine. The tetras I have are called "Mix fruit Tetras". They come in different colors (ej; blue, pink, purple, green, etc) but they're the same specie and they school together.
Hi, I have 6 corys in my angel tank and they don't do nearly as much swimming around as yours do. I have 3 spotted corys and 3 Juli corys. Do you think that maybe I should get all in one kind? Or what do you think would make them swim around more? Because right now they mostly just sit in the corner of the tank. Please get back to me.
Hey, nice tank. I was wondering. I have a 29 gallon (cycled) and I was thinking of making it a Angelfish tank. I was thinking of getting: 3 Oto Catfish, 6 Julie Cory catfish, 3 Swortails, and 2 Angelfish. I will also have a few live plants in there such as some java moss/ferns, and amazon swords. I heard that the Java Ferns are good for eggs. I also have a few rocks in the tank for hiding. Does this sound overall good? Please get back to me, Thanks. GL with your tank. :)
Hey I have a question. I just bought three Julie Cory's yesterday (Feb 14) and i'm not really familiar with corey's but they are swimming around singly and they are not staying at the bottom, instead they are swimming around the mid section and top, and one in particular swims and lands on my plastic plant and just sits there. Can you tell me what's wrong or how to fix this problem? Or maybe even why this is happening?
There is not a Buddha statue in my aquarium. The gold figures to right are Chinese guardian lions, known in the western world as Foo dogs. They are stone lions believed to have powerful mythic protective powers to the Chinese culture.
I aslo have the Blue Gravel, but lately I have been thinking about switching to a more natural look. I have a 16 gallon tank containing 2 Red Wags, (babies Mom and Dad Platys died:() 1 Cardinal tetra, One neon tetra, A betta, A bleeding heart tetra, A congo tetra, and a silver tip tetra.
@Corvette272 hey, some of the fish u have r schooling fish ( espetaly cardinal and neon and congo tetras need at least 6).... well basicly almost all tetras r schooling fish and u need more than 3-6,
I have noticed that as my eel approaches 5 inches, 2 of my 6 tiger barbs has damage done to their tail fins. One had its tail ripped in half, the other looks like its entire tail had gotten in the mouth of the dinosaur eel and "stripped" of alot of the fiber.
Just a warning, while I doubt he can eat them he is trying to. =[
i named one of my tigers spot to cause his whole right side is spoted,
my smallest barb is always away from the rest and facing downward , i have 6 altogether , the 5 school together but the other one is left out, can some1 help??
aha well yesterday the smallest barb got sucked up in to the filter "all my fault" after i was done cleaning it i for got to add the bottom piece so that wouldnt happen, but any way i got the fish out safe and every since i put him back in the tank hes schools with the rest, : ) but at first he just stayed in the corner and had his head down. but know hes fine, i see that alot of people have this probly with just one barb, i think its from bullying and stress. :) thanks again oflam
your tiger barbs might get aggressive . you should keep them in a larger school. it think its ok to keep them in that tank but it should be cleaned well . I suggest you should get a bigger tank but its ok too.
nice tank, i prefer a more natural look with my fish but with all my other tank living animals (like my reptiles) i go for more artificial so i cant say much lol
in my 10 gallon i have 3 zebra danios, 3 ghost shrimp, 2 female guppies, 1 albino catfish, and 1 emerald green cory catfish. my grandparents gave me their old 10 gallon aquarium yesterday and i am going to get some glofish 1 of each color, 2 african dwarf frogs, and some ballon mollys, idk what else to get :( btw amazing tank!

@1howiedfan I dissagree a 10 gal tank is only big enough for small schooling fish like neons, guppies would work as well... Tiger Barbs need a minimum of 30 gallons to thrive at all... anything smaller and they become rather aggressive... these fish can reach 3".... so think about that... yes you could technically put 4 in a 10 gal... but they will not be happy, how are they supposed to swim... at all

I don't know for sure. But from what I read, Tiger Barbs can be quite aggressive.
So are Glo-fish. Both can be fin-nippers. Not a good idea to put long fin fish in with them.
