Wether you like their music or not they are one of the biggest bands of all time. No doubt about it. I can imagine some people think their music sucks but seeing them continue their 360 tour now with stadiums packed with 80.000 people I guess they're stil doing ok!!
@coweir There are definitly people who don't like them. But bands like this are similar to Rush. With such a vast catolouge and such a long career, people who don't like them are just being dicks. Even if your not a musician you HAVE to give some props.
U2 at their best I think. The latest stuff is a bit shite I reckon. You have to hand it to them though, loads and loads of top tunes over the years. Larry looks like a fucking eejit now though and Adam looks like an architect from Surrey.
I saw these guys in a bar in Gainsville, Florida in 1981. I knew they were going to make it big that night. Everyone in my dorm back at Florida State mocked Bono's voice when they heard my album Boy but now of course claimed that they were always big fans. Who knew?
.. haha well im not especially in the mood to tell exactly how but bono's last name is hewson and i am also a direct decesdant of Colonel john hewson.. but im pretty sure my great grandma on my dad's side was a hewson.. i can't remember .. haha but i am
@BLACKMAGICMETALMAN12 For me "October" is the most underrated album ever. "Boy" got tons of critical acclaim when it came out. I wouldn't call it underrated.
@Nigelxman To be honest, I'm not big on October. I find Boy doesn't get mentioned at all because majority of U2 fans only care from Unforgettable Fire up, discluding Pop for the most part.
@BLACKMAGICMETALMAN12 It amazes me how many people dismiss "October". To me, it's just a much more powerful and spiritually uplifting album than "Boy". It's also more interesting and experimental musically which appeals to me. But as always, music is a completely subjective medium. I loved U2 through The Joshua Tree. After that.... not so much. Then again, for a U2 fan, I'm an old fart. I was 15 when Boy came out. lol Yikes. Doesn't seem like it could have been that long ago!
@Nigelxman Hahaha nice. My brother's the biggest U2 nut to ever walk the earth. Some of it brushes over on me, I suppose. I have 824 U2 songs on my iPod alone, majority of them being live bootlegs and such. They're a great band, but I must say they can be pretty bland sometimes. The new album was alright, but after How to Dismantle it was a big let down in my opinion.
good point on music being subjective but i never said it was anywhere near u2. musically and the themes of the 2 albums are very different from other band's debut albums
"I think this is the best debut album by a rock band...weezer's blue album would be second".
That statement puts Weezer and U2 into a category. You then articulate your preferences within the category of "best debut album" by assigning placement along a numerical scale.
Your english is poor in the comment just below this one, so perhaps you're just unskillful in articulating what you truly mean?
This was one of the first records I ever bought when I was thirteen, there's nothing to describe the sheer power and awe it had. I do think they've done anything better than Boy. Achtung Baby comes close though.
I love the Joshua Tree (Unforgettable Fire even more), but after a live time of U2, I think Achtung Baby is their best. It was just sooo good when it came out, and even with weak spots, it's such a good album.
What a great performance. This is one of the rare concert clips where I hear Bono really belt out the lyrics; I don't know if Bono would be able to sing w/ such a range these days, basically I don't know if he would attempt to sing Twilight now... but thanks to Youtube, we can relive the concerts in the band's youthful years.. great stuff; I disagree that Adam has been a crutch; he plays great bass and looked cool back then playing it.
Your words are true..There best work is yet to come...Watch and see.cbono69..or chris..Have you seen the movie???U23d..its in your movies....look in the paper and see it...
energic stuff, it's like electric & co, or two hearts beat as one, or even i will follow... the work posted on the first albums is something of value on this band...the causes expressed on the lyrics...is top
To the person who thinks the Edge is flat when he plays u clearly do not know what the **** ur talking about and how can u say that the later albums are crap...have u ever heard Joshua Tree/ Achtung Babay/ Zooropa
Twilight is, and always will be one of my favourite U2 tracks.

it's a gibson Explorer, the same he uses on beautiful day, miracle drug and others... i wonder if it is the same...
zero71234 3 years ago
it is the same, and he does have it today.... actually, he's auctioning it off for the music rising charity.
thehype93 3 years ago
Not this one. He auctioned one that he had bought in the late 80s, but had still used onstage and in videos.

I don't know how anyone could conceive of Weezer as being anywhere near the stature, depth and passion of the band U2.
But that's the thing about opinions on music.... they're all subjective.
