  • Wow. Beautiful!

  • 1.55-2.05

  • 1:26!! :)

  • Just got to play a baroque oboe which was actually made by Marcel Ponseele himself today. The weight of a modern oboe in comparison to this is a ton. It's really lightweight. It doesn't require as much force, and was really fun.

However, it's really hard to make it sound beautiful, like he does in this video. Remarkable. My deepest respects to him. I know the hard work it takes the become a good oboist. JS Bach was not the only master in this piece.

  • I love the old style reproduction instruments. They have such a warm, raw and gutsy sound.

  • @MrPisster And so much more simpler as well! Seems things were so much better back in those days.

  • ... we really need a Baroque Orchestra in New Orleans...

  • I wonder where this was recorded? What a beautiful place it is!

  • @MrPenfold84 I'm 99pct sure this is the "saint Carolus Borromeus church" in Antwerp, Belgium: built in the grandeur of the Baroque era 1615-1621. look it up!

  • This is very hypnotic, and make's me feel close to tears! Beautiful piece!

  • Two people like Mozart

  • best oboe player I listened to.

  • Marcel Ponseele is fantastic!

  • it´s impossible to play this better! Especially when sitting there totally exposed and with the camera on your embouchure...

    really cool.

  • Luscious!

  • Awesome! Thanks!

  • @Rotebuehl1 - Jupiter! THIS IS UTTERLY MARVELOUS... I must confess that it brought tears to my eyes! I have no appropriate words in the English,French,German or Portuguese langues to thank you for this JEWEL!

  • incredible!

  • NO instrument in the orchestra cries like the oboe! Brilliant!

  • what i don't understand is why do modern oboes have so many valves, pads, etc... this instrument is basically a recorder with a reed and it plays pretty much in the same range.

  • @marazm1

they have different fingerings, the other one much easier

  • @marazm1

They're honestly two different instruments. The reed setup, the voicing, etc cannot be easily transferred from one instrument to the other.

  • ¡¡¡Excelente interpretación!!!

  • Just impossible to stop listening, Marc Ponseele is a master at work.

    PimDalm

  • Verry Nice music!

  • ooo amzing :))))

  • Will Bach ever have witnessed such high quality? Guess not...

  • ...and, Marcel Ponseele (- arguably the finest baroque oboe player around..), in sublime form, his heavenly beautiful playing carrying the whole performance - opening up totally new dimensions in no-nonsense poetic simplicity - proves the point, that one does not really need a a conductor..!

  • i love the sound of that baroque obe makes

  • this is as sublime as it gets, eh? awesome.

  • I got a chance to see him live, like this here in a church - he's great!

Muchas gracias

  • "Sublime" is a better word.

  • The sequence from 2:20 to 2:24 is so delicate and fragile, yet so typical of the sheer genius of Bach!

  • How can classical music put you in a trance? This music music must make you sleepy, cofycup!

    Protestant7--you have some good music!

  • impossible to put into words how marvellous this is - marcel ponseele's playing says it all - thank you

  • Great performance. Ponseele is marvellous. Thanks for sharing :)

  • @flbnice yes....

    thank you for this video!

    God bless you...

  • wow the oboist is incredible what is his name?

  • @obomonse the oboist IS Marcel Ponseele. A musician 'pure sang', who builds his own instruments.

  • hehe the oboist looks baroque too!

  • Very beautiful sound quality and interpretation!

  • First class conductor, first class musician and music by J S bach, what exceptional

    combination!!!!!!! Thank you

  • kozzzh: Do you have to be so crude?

  • Perfect!

  • thank you so much for this wonderful music

  • One of the best conductors I have encountered.

This is indeed addictive. What an exceptional offering - thank you for posting!

  • Great!

  • Bach, Herreweghe and Ponseele : the perfect trio. Thanks for this beautiful piece of music.

  • un bach dans toute sa splendeur !

  • I've lost count of how many times I've listened to this now. It puts me in a form of trance. The music is unbeleivable and so is the interpretation.

  • @cofycup It's so breathtaking!

  • Does anyone know what Baroque Oboe he is playing ? It appears to be pitched in A=440HZ, and it looks like he has a Slur/Octave hole for his left thumb.

  • Yes, you're right. Beautiful instrument, isn't it?

  • Marcel is playing on a copy of an oboe made by Thomas Stanesby jr in 1740s.

It only has two keys, for low c and e-flat (no octave key) and is made out of boxwood with fake ivory rings.

It's pitched at A 415 and it was made by himself and his brother Francis.

  • It looks remarkably similar to copies of Stanesby recorders -- and now I know why.

  • @iwanttocomment this is in fact true. I have bought one of their baroque oboes as well.

  • amazing....

  • It's a pencilled

  • Thanks to liketheleaf for the share!
