It appears to be a semi-transparent sphere, a bubble, the shadows on it are very convincing, seems to be beyond the production values of this docu to fake that, and doesn't seem to be a technical artefact. May well be one of those energy bubbles Burke talks about photographing later in this part around 08:00 ish.
