  • This film surely has to be listened to for the times that were in it. The most engaging thing is the innocence of the kids.Their interpretation of the stories in terms that they understand is delightful. This film I feel sure was not made to promote religion but just to show how kids can tell a story.Lighten up folks

  • brilliant but it shows how brainwashed these kids were ,familiar to me........

  • amazing creation!

  • Holy shit. That voice is so fucking annoying.

  • @CrimsonToast shes a little girl leave her alone

  • adorable.. awesome movie

  • @FJvoodoo Ya, you're right. Theists are a dying breed. Thank God (Pardon the pun).

  • The ones that disliked this are heathens from 3rd world countries. Our countries were started with Christian values not any other kind of religion. These nonbelievers should leave our country, we don't want them and never did. They are breading 5 times more than Christians so guess what? They will overtake us in two generations so get your kids onboard to have just as many as they are having so we can counteract what they are doing to our country. God Bless us one and all. KMA229

  • @FJvoodoo I do believe one of the big reasons for coming to America was the freedom of religion. So, regarding all the people who practiced whatever religion they wanted without fear of persecution; We DID want them and ALWAYS have.

  • @masterb8r All religions except one, the ones who threaten us. Oh you might open your eyes to see who took over Ann Arbor, what there were in the news about. We native Americans are getting tired of all the illegals coming into our country, wonder when it's time to send all the people not born in the US back. They are sucking us dry, we had good programs in place that our government stole from us, don't think they care as well. Who the hell sold us to China we saved them in WWII from Japan.

  • @FJvoodoo Despite the fact that that had almost no bearing towards religion towards the end, it's not separate religions that are the threat, it's the people. Every religion can be interpreted in a hostile way (Including Christianity), but that doesn't make the religion bad. Also, with our flawed Representative Democracy, many problems stemming from the economy can be attributed to the people as well. Need someone to blame? Blame everyone, ourselves included.

  • @masterb8r Naw, just wanted to throw some crap out becasue i thought it would piss you off and reply again, you need something to divert your activities away from masterbation. They say you go blind doing that and as it looks you went to a school for deaf people, and it is also a known fact that you don't read. So put your rod down and pick up someting worth reading becasue the United States is going to shit becasue of people like you. See another challenge for a reply from you.

  • @FJvoodoo I thought this was a serious (Well, As serious as youtube comment wars can be) discussion, but no, just another typical internet response. I don't see why it always has to go to some vituperation towards me as if this were a personal thing. I must admit though, That second sentence is pretty funny when you think about it, so alright. Can't turn down a challenge.

  • Eh.

  • Her daughter who danced and ask the mother then she ask her daughter yo ask the King for the head of John the baptist/ amen

  • I LOVE IT!!! the little girl is so sweet!!!! such a great job!!!!

  • A masterpiece....

  • Yu'll end up en 'ell. Haha.

  • A great story for children...

  • Damn... If only i could understand British accents.

  • @TheMagicBolt either you're an idiot or this is a really lame attempt at sarcasm

  • @LILBABYN0THING Well...if you call not being able to understand a different accent than the one you are used to idiotic. Then yes... I am an idiot.

  • @TheMagicBolt It ain't British... It's a Dublin accent from Ireland...

  • @Irishandproudtobe oh. still didnt understand all the words.

  • Wait where's accreditation for little girl's voice??? Did i missed it???

  • I really liked it and I understand what they're trying to accomplish, but...Oscar nominated? It's a simple enough idea and with a fairly simple execution. I think a film should have more than a great idea to be nominated. Animation and writing need to be considered, too, and this film, by nature of its concept, has to have simple animation. Actually, I think it would've been more successful if the animation was even simpler.

  • i can't understand what she was saying... though, i really like her voice.

  • The Irish accent is the best accent in the world.

  • Nice!

  • How could that be animated for an Oscar? Thats shit, little plot, little attention to detail, little art what waste of time.

  • @Kingportable

you obviously have no comprehension of what can actually qualify as art. you haven't considered the simplistic beauty of the film, the era and culture which it satires, and the quirky, childlike animation which sets the entire tone of the plot. i pity your narrow view of the world, i really do.

  • @SChique00 i musn't have any comprehension of art if art qualifies for works that did not require any professionalism or competitive skill. I musn't know art if i believe it should impress generations like the statue of David, like Sixteenth Chapel, like Davinci's Last Supper, Like the Mona Lisa, like Hayao Miyazaki's Spirited away. No, just as long you make something weird and meaningless perhaps the drawings of a six year old and make it seem intelgient it counts as an award winning films,

  • @Kingportable

those are all wonderful examples of what constitutes art, but by mentioning statues, architecture, paintings and animation you have contradicted your point; francis ford coppolla once said that the aim of art is to find life, and does this short not demonstrate this point perfectly, through innocence, reminiscent tones and narratives? art is more than the sum of its parts, and by singling out the skill of the drawings you are not viewing the piece as a whole.

  • @Kingportable

    >>Sixteenth Chapel

wow. it took sixteen tries to create that masterpiece?

    you clearly prove your point

    >>I Mustn't know art

  • i can't understand the little girl.....I don't know why....

I'm high right now....but i can understand the old lady just fine not the little girl

    im so confused...

  • I might not be Christian, but that was the best telling of a Bible story I've ever seen.

  • cute but its hard to make out what shes sayng

  • i think iv seen this on telly before...

  • this is the most mental version of salome ive ever seen, in a good way

  • You know what they say,'God wants spiritual fruit, not religious nuts.' This is going straight to Mom.

  • Very goood love da DUBLIN accents 8)

  • What a lovely accent

  • good idea and new

  • god dammit, Irish accent is HARD to understand.

  • Great stuff Cathal, you've come a long way since Bosco's! Loved the film, I wish you continued success.

  • Nothing cuter than a little kid with an Irish accent

  • The most adorable little voice I have ever heard.

  • The cutest short film

  • This is SOOO cute!

  • I love the sync of the girl's story-telling voice over the characters in the story. Even the opening has sound from another space in the outdoor scene. Great sense of time and space. Wonderful work!

  • this is so simple but incredibly brilliant at the same time! LOVE it!!!

  • I love Dublin and the Irish Accent! I thought the Wicked King looked like Sasha Baron Cohen in his Ali G persona. hilarious!

  • I loved the way she talked but i nearly didnt get anything, kinda creepy video bue i liked it

  • blah blah blah. essay comments are boooooring!

  • Loveee it haha never ever gets old! I want an accent :(

  • michael carey sits on the judge panel on this show ernst and young, he closed all his factories down in ireland putting hundreds on the dole , what a joke , all his stuff is made in england now jacobs biscuits 150+yrs in ireland and he gave it to the english.

  • @JaaniAM It's not even worth fighting anymore as the war is won and the damage has been done. Without the christian church we could would probably have a cure for most current incurable diseases, we would live fifty years longer and would colonize planets.

I have nothing against spirituality but I do have everything against religion and the church.

  • @Kafana91 Yep, but if there weren't the chruch some other entity would have served the same.

  • @NZdodobird What the hell are you talking about? The church has no power now and there is no entity (though I'm not even sure what this word has to do with any of this) to prevent progress now, albeit it comes with a price.

  • @Kafana91 "The church has no power now"?Ha?Which planet did you come from?

  • @thimely Oh please.

The power it holds is so minor compared to the corporate hordes it can be considered non-existent. Skinheads have a higher influence in today's society than the church.

Lets disregard all the bigs of the corporate field such as pharmacy and oil and take a look at the rest. Governments come in second, then the underground criminal rings. After that you have the various groups and subgroups, be it white supremacists, socialists or liberals and then finally you have the church.

  • @Kafana91 Ok,ok.I respect your opinion, but I disagree 100%...If the Church didn't have power then it wouldn't be the richest "company" in the whole world! And priests who commit crimes such as rapes against children, would be in jail....Did you know that the Orthodox Church in the USA spent 11 million dollars 4 years ago,to conceal raping charges against it........?

  • @thimely No, I did not know that, is that true?

Ok, maybe I was a bit out of line. You hear all these pedophilia accusations against priests and you never really hear anybody getting punished for those crimes, I do agree. I guess I agree with you in part, but I don't believe it holds the most power.

  • @JaaniAM no point trying to poison peoples minds with your disbelif, theese

    are god fearing catholic people.

  • very nice ,funny attractive movie. the facial expression of the girl is fantastic

  • i like it alot! it was good even though i couldnt hear what the girl was saying too much

  • i like how she says party :D

  • 2:00 = truly hillarious!

  • That little girls voice is soooo cute!!!

  • this is sooo cute!

  • everything is computer animated today, please could someone do some old fashion cel, stop motion, or cut out animation w/out computer enhancement but just w/ film?

  • @filmfanman65 i do stop motion :L

  • @filmfanman65 how about you?

  • @JaaniAM and that's the way the business has been run since a looong time ago

  • Yes, it sounded very cute and the animation was cute old style, but the message was not accurate in any way. I'm talking about the specifics of course. Hell fire - not biblical, Jesus not God, but Gods Son. But cute, Yes, very cute indeed

  • @JaaniAM Have you read the book? How do you know it's not true? And what's so bad about believing in it?

  • I understood about 1/3 of what was being said... damn me and my American Ignorance!

  • I didn't understand anything of what the girl said!!

  • I posted this on my Facebook page a few months ago, but unfortunately a lot of them never understood nor got the meaning. I suppose its like a lot of other things in life...like being in love. Only understood by those who have truly experienced it in their own hearts. Not so hard to see it with the correct lenses. I adore this film!!

  • "oh dat was GORGEOUS illgiveyaanythingyouwant" LOL

  • Ahha, so cute.(:

  • definatley oscar worthy, ver well done, excellent graphics at begining!

  • The lady reminds me of Doofenshmirtz from P&F

  • thats weirdly cute..

  • So this is a testament to how you can fill a young person's mind with whatever you want. It's a shame, you guys should be ashamed of yourselves.

You say it's cute. I say you've used a cute child's voice to create a disgusting conversion tool.

I appreciate any replies worded correctly and any statements that are concise.

  • John the Babtist looks like Niel from the Young Ones :D

  • how was this oscar nominated??

  • deres so cute like mee family in dublin

  • DUblin XXXXXXXX <3

  • This was one of Frank Cottrell Boyce's choices on BBC Radio 4's Desert Island Discs.

It's an amazing slice of culture.

  • this is so cute. the little stories :) children are the best :) in every country - using every language ;)

  • This series is so fun! It helps if you already know the stories of the saints, though. The accent is pretty thick and they're little kids, so they say funny things. That's why it's so cute. I love this!

  • this is real children in a primary school in dublin in the 60s, omg..... points below

  • sooo sweet!!!

  • wow!!!those of you that have put negative comments up should really have kept your thoughts to yourselves!! Its the sweetest thing Iv seen in AGES and the comments below have really angered me!

  • What a fantasy she has... i must say

  • annoying accent

  • She's pretty good with the order of events! Go kiddo :)

  • Agreed it was tough to understand. Initially thought it was a Scottish accent before reading it was recorded in Dublin. Guess I wouldn't make it past the first question on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire! All in all, wonderful, innocent, funny, and sweet! Very enjoyable.

  • that was the irish accent?? oh dear, i'm gonna have some troubles understanding them next week

  • The accent was Irish, not English

  • This is such a sweet animation! Just LOVE it!!!!! When I hear this I think, wow, the world can be such a nice, peaceful place sometimes!!!

  • Oh hO!

  • Great! Excellent animation and story. Thank you.

  • They did put the child's voice in the credits.

I thought it was a great film!

  • thats why birthdays are stupid. because people feel special and powerful and do stupid things.

  • what a loverly dance she did. Cool animation. I like that they ended with the children's song about the black plague.

  • :20 haha, theres always the one guy who looks like a Beatle

this was great! Great animation :]

  • 2:39 lovely!

  • Oh the accent the voice, makes me laugh and miss my visit to cork, london derry and belfast. Cute

  • i remember hearing this and a medley of other stories on an irish radio station whilst visiting there, it was like a daily feature on some presenters programmer possibly RTE. These were statements from children from inner city dublin schools, probably all these 'yung ones' are grown up by now.

  • I just love this story! It's so cute the way the little girl starts getting carried away describing all the possible rewards that Salome could have asked for - earrings, or a necklace, or a watch, or a bracelet, or a ring, or a gold brooch (because, you know, kings are really rich, and they have loads of gold)! It's obvious that she's really thought about this story.

  • Nah, shes not british! lol!!! shes got a Dublin accent :)

  • Ya, well where you think the Jamaican accent came from?

  • Lol, Jesus looks more realistic than whats on thoe catholic stain glass windows. Jesus was dark skinned with wooly hair, and a beard.

  • I think the girl voiceover is sooo cute, though I need a script to understand better in times.

  • produced by Darragh O connell!! Darragh is my name! Ive only ever lived in england and australia so ive never even heard of another person called Darragh!!

  • @Animator40 There are tons of people in ireland called Darragh...I suppose its the irish version for dara..

  • Yeah! That's by far the most important thing!!! How could they?

  • annoying but good

  • Animation isn't always telling the artist's or animators story, it's a chance to do many different things, in this case, telling us a piece from bible through animation. It isn't ripping off.

  • And this telling was completely and utterly unremarkable. There was not a speck of originality or creativity in it. That this video was nominated for an Oscar is a demerit to the very award.

  • The point of the film was: the girl was telling the bible story and the story went exactly as she said, including the dialogue.

The walking isn't perfect, I admit that, but the walking wasn't the point.

  • Yes, I get that, and it isn't a very remarkable point. This idea of a child telling a story isn't even original. I didn't criticize the walkig in the video; I criticized the fact that this video was nominated for an oscar when there is absolutely nothing special about it. It isn't moving, funny, exciting, sad, educational, or entertaining in any way, contains no strong messages, and does not exhibit any unique art styles. This series contributes nothing to animation.

  • It may not be the most original idea ever, but it's not the most common. Going back in time or inside the human body, the're common enough. It's just meant to be a nice little cartoon that's heartwarming.

I think that's why it was nominated, it's made with heart and the makers didn't push it to the limit. They just wanted to make the film.

  • "Christianity started out in Palestine as a fellowship; it moved to Greece and became a philosophy; it moved to Italy and became an institution; it moved to Europe and became a culture; it came to America and became an enterprise." Sam Pascoe

  • Its not a british kid mate its a Irish kid,Whats so special about this is the fact that the sound for this was taken from tapes a teacher recorded in class during the 1960's of kids from a very working class part of dublin telling tales from the bible,i like it mate probably because im from dublin and that i can relate to it in some way,but its just the way she managed to capture religion through the eyes of a child the way they saw it.I think it has a type of rustic charm

  • the kid was irish

  • I think what's special about this specific story in the bible is that god helped everyone besides the saint that was in jail. Also that we teach children these stories and to follow things blindly w/o really questioning the reality of the situation. Its mocking Christianity in a sense by re-citing their very own words from the holy bible. It's not just a kid telling a story she's read in a book.

  • @Toyomo16 Go suck a lemon, you bitter twat!

  • Słabe to było ;/

  • i think if u have the ears and the eyes to watch an appreciate such a film... nothing like it

  • i did not get it ^^'

  • read the description...

  • that's because there's nothing to get.

  • Wonder how long does it take to make only 4:22 minute animation...?

  • THAT WAS AMAZING! I like how Jesus was standing on the water fishing.

  • Thash was verrrry Irrrrrrish, Ah could nay git de verrry worrd mEself eiDer. Ah hope yis underrrrrstand it aw yerselves. This accent knocks me oot.
