THIS PERFORMANCE IS ALL THE MORE INCREDIBLE BECAUSE SHANKAR WAS 91 YEARS OLD WHEN HE DID IT ! (BORN IN 1920). A MASTER IS A MASTER IS A MASTER. NAMASTE AND PEACE TO ALL OF YOU.
@Thecurtainraiser1 the tabla player was Ustad Allah Rakha, father of Zakhir Hussein, and a truly wonderful musician. Ravi Shankar and Allah Rakha played together for many years.
@kuelap11 This is the legend under whom George Harrison and others from the Beatles learned Sitar and incorporated into their earlier records. Ignorance is okay, but arrogance...
@SupernalOne Exactly, the Beatles was a little inspried by Indian Classial Music. This is the legend under whom George Harrison and others from the Beatles learned Sitar and incorporated into their later records.
We are blessed to see this one of a kind artist perform at 91 yrs of age. His music will live for ever and will be amongst the best world has seen. God bless him with great health and a long life.
@Tubemanjac Wow.. You saw the woodstock performance??? I saw that on youtube and I was totally lost in thr sheer brilliance and the musical dialogue between Pt ravi and the musician on tabla(drums)...
@wrfell Indian music is certainly one of the oldest forms around... The western guitar came from the East. India is a vast, rich cultural source that I as a westerner, have appreciated for more than 30 years. I roomed with a Punjabi family for 4 years from age 18 to 22. Love the Music, food and the people.
Such a gifted musical genius... still a peerless master at 91 years old. Little of what any of us has to say about his sublime and most scintillating music will be recalled by history, yet his brilliant improvisations will live on in the hearts of millions, as long as the human spirit aspires towards perfection.
I am a Sitar player who started out playing in 1969 after hearing Ravi Shankar on the radio in America. I will always think of him as the great master.

Tu és o Universo assim como uma parte do Universo. Tu és o Oceano e ao mesmo tempo uma gota no Oceano. Larga o controle.
O Oceano sabe onde te levar.

When I listen to Ravi, I wonder if possibly his culture invented music.
Great video. Many Thanks!

The Sea that bares her bosom to the moon,
The winds that will be howling at all hours,
And are up-gathered now like sleeping flowers,
For this, for everything, we are out of tune;
It moves us not.--Great God! I'd rather be
A Pagan suckled in a creed outworn;
So might I, standing on this pleasant lea,
Have glimpses that would make me less forlorn;
Have sight of Proteus rising from the sea;
Or hear old Triton blow his wreathed horn.
