The entire Demjanjuk case is a travesty against justice. First he was put in a blatant show trial (read Yoram Sheftel's book if you think it was anything else) in the 80's and narrowly escaped the noose for being someone he wasn't. @hectorbolshevik During WW2, I would sympathize mostly with Eamon de Valera and Sweden ánd with the anticommunist heroes of Finland, including Mannerheim. Field Marshall Mannerheim's daughter was a Catholic nun in the monastery of my aunt. My aunt loved her, a pious convert from Finland. As for persecution of homosexuality: asocial behaviour was punished with 're-education', not with murder (although some died in the Spring 1945 lack of supplies).

I have book shelves full of books about the Surinam Plan, the Madagascar Plan, the Jewish Emigration Offices of the Nazi Reich working up until Dec. 30, 1941, including in the occupied territories. The Nazis left the (non-accused) Jews of French nationality inside Vichy France, alone. (Gertrude Stein wrote speeches for Marshall Pétain in 1941, and she was Jewess, survived, as did 90 % of all French Jews.) It depends on what you define 'holocaust'.

Problem was that France had enough good people to protect their fellow Jews from the Nazi savages. Stein was protected by Vichyite Bernard Fay who had use for her. He hid her identity.

Nor did the Jews of Belgian nationality under Wehrmacht-occupied Belgian civil authorities suffer from deportations. Only Communist Party members did. But no majority. But large parts of the intellectuals who survived, joined the pro-Axis collaboration forces (but not so did the Poles!). As for Demjanjuk: he is a victim of a Show Trial without any evidence, with falsified ID card (FBI statement!), only due to political reasons.

It was the Nazis who terrorized civilian populations for hiding Jews, opposing the Nazis, and supporting the Partisans. Very recent news suggests FBI thought the Russian KGB supplied counterfeit evidence. This was also an issue during the Israel trials in which Demjanjuk of Cleveland, as an old man, was much taller than the "John Demjanjuk" of the Russian KGB-supplied evidence.
It should be remembered that throughout the Stalinist Bolshevik era, and later, Russia used altered, fabricated, forged, counterfeit documents to frame and convict, and execute Jewish dissidents, and opponents of the Bolshevik regime.

I do not deny this. Vichy France was antisemitic in civil life, but never deported French nationality-holiding Jews itself. The entire Demjanjuk case is a travesty against justice. First he was put in a blatant show trial (read Yoram Sheftel's book if you think it was anything else) in the 80's and narrowly escaped the noose for being someone he wasn't. And now Germany--the SAME COUNTRY that forced him to choose between herding Jews to the gas chambers or starving to death in a POW camp--is putting him on trial for making the decision he did. He's no Nazi and never was.

He was a Soviet POW who was captured by the Nazis and was given a chance not to perish in a camp himself or be executed like most Soviet POWs by becoming a concentration camp guard.
