The point about global dimming is ironic.

If we stop burning fossil fuels, the soot no longer reflects heat away and we get faster warming due to the C02 we already emitted.

I agree. Being myself an town planner and young scientist I try to follow the whole climate change debate and Lovelock's point of view is really appealing. Sadly, climate sceptics are not limited to US and I doubt it has anything to do with level of education. It's just denial and happens everywhere. What can you expect when Lovelock hurls his doom and gloom sermon - reduction of global population levels and mass migrations and (probably) no redemption :)

I'm not sure you're right here walter. You do well in pointing out Lovelock's clever use of linguistics, which induce a sense of urgency, but 'global heating' is his renaming of 'global warming'. He has not renamed the greenhouse effect, for that is a process of positive feedback which keeps the earth around 32degrees C warmer than it would be without GH gases.
