  • silence

  • the problem is the slince between jokes, but i like it more this way, anything is better without stupid laughtrack.

  • They actually have the Mario 64 pause sound. Wow.

  • Editing out the laugh track and leaving silence isn't really fair. The use of the laugh track creates the kind of comedy they are going for. It wouldnt be right if you added laughs to The Office because comedy is about timing and these two shows are editing using different ideas of comedic timing.

  • The problem with these kinds of videos is that, it can generally be replicated with most shows out there, including the generally funny ones :P Plus the fact that they mute the talking takes away from the moment as well

  • This is brilliant. The fact that you added in some ambient sounds to replace the dead silence makes it blend together quiet well. The show just doesn't make sense when you take away the laugh track. It could even be an incredibly bleak drama now.

  • Big Bang Theory is filmed in front of a live studio Shizune.

  • @Trogdorbad oh god why

  • @VeniUbique

Because I like making references to things that I know almost nothing about just to see if anyone gets it.

  • They give this show awards and put community on hiatus.

  • omg i dont know when 2 laugh now

  • This is strangely depressing...?

  • This is just awkward.....

  • I actually felt pretty bad watching this because some of the jokes made me smile anyway.

But how do normals watch this show?

  • This is shocking. I thought I might laugh at the silence, but no....

  • I wish there weren't a laugh track though. It would make it better imo

  • big bang theory is really unfunny

  • I DONT KNOW HOW TO LAUGH WITHOUT A GUIDE! GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

  • This is show is filmed in front of a live studio audience. Watch some of the blooper reals. There is one where Penny/Kaley say "its tail" instead of "his tail" and the director says cut, "you missed the words" and she says "but they all still laughed!" defending her mistake.

  • Yes, listening to a conversation where everyone pauses awkwardly as though they were waiting for a laugh track is awkward.

    Duh.

  • @BookShed No a ton of show without laugh tracks are hilarious with pauses. It's the fact that the show tries so hard to force unfunny "nerdy" references into everything. And the fact that the comedic timing is just flat out not there.

  • It's actually kind of sad without the laughing. I still like the show. Quit making me think for myself.

  • It really is NOT funny.

  • ...so he's supposed to be playing Mario 64 on a keyboard? I bet that's loads of fun. An actual nerd would have a USB adapter for N46 controllers.

  • @crazziemonkke you have the super rare n46 console? gimme it!

  • Even Friends and Seinfeld is weird without a laugh track, and ER and horror films are hilarious with it. Does that make Friends and Seinfeld terrible sitcoms also? And ER and horror films, such as The Shining, funny? Sitcoms with laugh tracks are purposely written so that the laugh track can facilitate the jokes and help the audience understand where the jokes are.

  • You guys fighting, you're all idiots; family guy is genius, and tbbt is hilarious, yes the laugh track attempts to make it a laugh a second but the way I watch it I don't let the laugh track force me and therefore properly enjoy the genuinely funny moments of which there are many. Ok so its not the office (UK) or scrubs, but those were true perfections which are almost impossible to compete with, and in any case tbbt is still much better than a lot of the other rubbish on tv...

  • @drumwindsurf4life Im too lazy to argue on the interenet today so just know this. You are a dumbass with no sense of comedic worth and these shows being less shitty that other piles of shit on tv is no excuse as it does not change the fact that the show is still shit.

  • @MagWrath Then why are you arguing? Sorry I don't "know this" as this is apocryphal; please don't insult me in such a ridiculous manner. All well and good as that is your opinion, but I would much prefer you to back up your arguments and give them some substance. "No sense of comedic worth" implies that you believe The Office (UK) and Scrubs to be "shit" as well as TBBT; surely this cannot be the case? (<-- rhetorical question, so please, don't bother answering it, as with my previous query).

  • @MagWrath Further, I was not stating it as an excuse (as I enjoy TBBT), rather, I was informing those who dislike it, that they could be watching a lot worse.

  • @drumwindsurf4life lol fuck you, didnt read either comment. Suck my dick you pretencious twat

  • @MagWrath Oh dear, a great showing of high intelligence from you here (<-- sarcasm as you wouldn't get it otherwise, as I have already explained, and before you argue against sarcasm being the lowest form of wit I propose the hypothesis which many have before that sarcasm is in fact to know it all). How can you assume of me a pretentiousness when, by your own admission, you haven't even read my comments; surely that is you being pretentious?

  • @MagWrath Ambiguity certainly doesn't help your case. Now please stop replying; all you do is insult idiotically. The reason I am replying is to defend a show I see as brilliant and also to hopefully see if some sense can't be bashed into that saxum you call a brain. jeeeeeez

  • @drumwindsurf4life who the fuck are you even trying to impress? You arent worth even a modicum of the amount of brainpower I have. It's actually far more satisfying to watch you spaz around and argue with your idea of what essentially is a fictional man. But I grow weary of this shit now as I often two so once again. Suck my dick I got bigger fish to fry.

  • @MagWrath Lol, are you serious? Can one person be so mind numbingly ridiculous? I am not trying to impress anyone; what gave you such an impression? Is it my use of language, perhaps the (obviously to you seemingly random) Latin word in my response? Well, if so, let me clear things up for you - I am myself at all times, whether it be with my friends, with someone of authority, or on the internet. I am someone who has studied/studies many languages, including Latin.

  • @MagWrath In everyday life I often use words from other languages for my own entertainment and also to help me further my abilities and understandings of the languages; I enjoy language greatly and therefore it is of great pleasure to me to explore other languages by, in my everyday life, comparing and contrasting them with other languages - I hope that cleared things up for you. I enjoy TBBT and understand it's flaws yet I get past them, that is my way of doing things.

  • @MagWrath Now please, do you want a rational debate, or are you going to continue to spout nonesense and insult moronically?

  • "I upgraded to Windows 7." *laugh*

    Seriously?

  • Wow, now I see how stupid this show actually is. Not funny at all. Hmm, I stopped watching it anyways. The laugh track kind of makes you feel forced to think something is funny. I liked the shows because I can rwlate but I'm sick of it now. Watch Scrubs, not Season 9 of course, but the other 8, that show didn't need a laugh track and it was hilarious yet it could bring tears to you eyes.

  • They actually used the right pause sound. Awesome.

  • ;_;

  • The quick, silent reverses remind me of krobopro

  • The fact that he also lists some Nintendo games and the laughtrack kicks in make s it pathetic.

  • the crap on TV makes me miss Arrested Development even more...

  • I still find the show funny but without the laughtracks it just makes it seem like a soap opera lol Plus it would be better if there weren't pauses for the laugh track, it would make it a little less awekward. I don't understand laugh tracks really, I mean, movies don't have them and we still laugh at those, why do comedy show's need them?

  • This show would be much less stupid without laughter, just laugh at what you want to laugh, what kind of insecure person needs hearing laughing for enjoying a show.

  • The only people who find this show funny are people who don't play video games and people who somehow think Star Trek and Star Wars references are cool.

  • Playing Mario 64 on an emulator with a laptop and no controller, how is he smart & how is this funny? Without the laughtrack you really get a sense of how depressing a nerd's life really is...

  • without the laugh track it just becomes an extremely sad "nerd". I only actually laughed when the girl walked in a called sheldon a dumbass

  • Wow, this show really is the pits. I think they should probably kill everyone involved.

  • 0:33 that really needed a seven second laugh, goddamn I don't get how people can like this show compared to like its always sunny and the office

  • I use emulators everyday and it's not a joke. How could it be "poorly coded"? My emulator runs fine. I also don't know how he stands playing a N64 game on a keyboard, I HAVE to use a usb controller. I really don't understand.

  • I want to take Chuck Lorre and stab him repeatedly.

  • "...poorly encoded N64 emulator" (laughtrack)

Are normal people just laughing at things they don't understand?

  • @xHenri I actually laughed at that without the laugh track. I'll admit, I laugh less without it, but I still love the show.

  • @tylerwarren This sequence just makes Sheldon look incredibly pathetic, like most real life nerds.

  • @xHenri You'd be hard pressed to find anyone who doesn't know what that means.

  • @xHenri Now you're getting it! Most of their fans just laugh at the jokes because they're too stupid to figure out that they don't get the joke. My family watches this show every day. None of them understand a single joke.

  • @dilt4 So do mine,My sister said she learned the 'Doppler effect' from it.ugh.

  • @xHenri

you think it makes you smarter than a 'normal' person to know what an emulator is?

there are few things more annoying than someone who is too dumb to realise they're not especially smart.

  • @loof000

He never said knowing what an emulator is makes him smart. He has a point. By normal people he must have meant "non-nerds." Even knowing what that is it's not really funny.

  • @xHenri ...i, good sir, find this humorous!...but im also nerdy lol to a point.

  • But how will he use his memory card when he's using an N64 emulator???

  • @NeoTStyle They're coded in.

  • Man, this show really doesn't work without a laugh track.

  • Oh and ratings mean nothing - people watch this shit because they're braindead, they sit diligently in front of their TV screens every week and tune into the same geek references rehashed into a 'new episode' because they're scared of anything different. The laugh track holds their hand and guides them when to laugh like the stupid sheep they are. Forget subtlety, or implicit humour, forget clever references to an old TV show perhaps. "STAR WARS IS BETTER THAN GIRLS." "HURR HURR FUCKING HURR!!!"

  • This show is so fucking dumb. Putting a laugh track after every sentence doesn't make something funny. Peep Show and The Office (UK) are undoubtedly the smartest and funniest sitcoms ever made and they have everything this does not, including the absence of a laugh track. I hate this show passionately, it epitomises everything bad in sitcoms, it's the perfect example of lazy American showwriting, and it dresses itself up as smart because it contain half-assed geek references. Fuck TBBT.

  • I don't see what the problem with laugh tracks is, it just gives a pause so you don't have to miss other dialogue while you're laughing. Bring on the hate.

  • It's really awkward without the laugh track..

  • This show is funny to morons. I chose not to watch.

  • @mattcat234 this show has intelligent humor, I'm guessing you watch family guy hmm?

  • @TheCrackerBrony No, it has shitty lowbrow humor DISGUISED as witty intelligent humor.

  • @AMadTacoFilms hmm, i wonder why it's ratings were off the charts. beats me. lolz im guessing you watch family guy too. NOW THAT'S HUMOR AMARITE!?

  • @TheCrackerBrony Because retards watch retarded shows. Family Guy is also one of those shows.

  • @AMadTacoFilms maybe you're the retard for not understanding that not everyone has the same points of view. A majority think the show is funny, point made.

  • @TheCrackerBrony It's predictable and poorly thought out. How the character "Sheldon" for example, forces the straining of his voice. The stereotype of how pathetic the male characters are around girl etc, "I'm going to play N64" Oh HA HA what genius writing... "I have a date" "oh that's fine I have 3 controllers" Like come on you would have to be half brain dead to find this crap funny. Not liking this poor humor makes me a family guy fanboy? Right...

  • @mattcat234 it's also opinion on what's funny and what's not. but this show got ratings off the charts, you're one of the very few that says it's not funny just to get attention and try and be different, kind of like a hipster. pretty pathetic, you must have not gotten much attention as a child

  • @TheCrackerBrony Im not looking for attention, I stumbled onto the video and wanted to see how the show was without a laugh track. Like you said it's just an opinion and that's what I wrote here in the comment section. You're the one going on the offensive replying to my comment to start with making silly assumptions about me like family guy... I want attention? why because I commented on a video? If your theory is correct then why would you "give" me that attention by replying to my comments?

  • @mattcat234 im sorry but that is way too long, not reading (tl:dr)

  • @TheCrackerBrony Sorry I overwhelmed you there with my reply. Feel free to continue with you're "intelligent" sitcom enjoyment.

  • @mattcat234 you didn't overwhelm, i just don't feel like wasting my time. and i don't watch this show anymore stopped being funny during season 3

  • @TheCrackerBrony That's good! You won't subject your brain to such sad poor comedy.

  • @mattcat234 which, as i have stated, is opinion. And frankly, your opinion is garbage to me, i couldn't care less.

  • It does seem a lot less lively without the laugh track. It was also weird seeing them silently waiting for the inaudible laugh to end before speaking their next line.

  • This actually was really good without a laugh track. I would so watch this show if it were as deep, and a little bit funny, as this.

  • Wow. I almost slept watching this clip.

  • I don't get it. Where am I supposed to laugh???

  • This was kind of sad.

  • the show is basically a group of people dealing with an annoying autistic man child. nothing funny about it

  • @Staralfurz YES! Thank you internet stranger, this IS not funny!

  • wow, the show is so not funny it actually feels awkward without the laugh track

  • This is actually pretty funny, it's a shame they ran this show through a laugh track filter and watered it down.

  • Comment removed

  • complete piece of shit show. some of the actors are funny people but god damn... just shit.

  • "Hey if I liked science and video games I would be socially awkward and unable to interact normally with people" = Thought process of the The Big Bang Theory writers.

  • Community > The US Office > Everything else.

  • @punkdava still office season 1-5 its pure gold nothing comes close

  • only idiots watch this garbage

  • @albokk my IQ is 138 and i like this show, Go fuck yourself

  • @Mrmagic135 People with high IQs can still be massive idiots.

  • @Mrmagic135 more like 38 , again this show is garbage it uses lame jokes plus a laugh track to make it "funny"

  • @Mrmagic135

IQ test are often flawed, you know. Werner Herzog once took one and scored 124, he retook later and scored 101.

  • @Mrmagic135 Looks like you just proved to albokk that you are indeed an idiot.

  • @Mrmagic135 my IQ is 151 and I don't like this show, go fuck yourself.

    See what I did there?

  • I still think it's funny? :c

  • Reminded of Garfield Minus Garfield. Really exposes it for what it actually is.

  • The only part I chuckled at was the "what if I choke on my popcorn" line. Everything else was either a bad joke or just plain sad.

  • ... erm you do know that they don't use laugh tracks in this show. It's filmed in front of a live audience.

  • @TheOmegajuice Then they must pump that auditorium with laughing gas

  • @panjak42 ... or they invite audiences members who like the show... and have a sense of fun

  • @TheOmegajuice you gotta be pretty naive to think that they dont back this shit up with some canned laughter..

  • @endow85

Maybe they do, based on outtakes I tend to doubt it (why the hell would they use canned laughter there) plus people tend to laugh differently when they are in company.

The title of this video is a lie. Even if they add "top up" laughter to the show then it is still a lie.

The laughs are genuine, if you don't share the audience's taste then watch something else! I never watch "Two and a Half men" or "How I met your mother" because I don't find them funny, my advice is to follow suit.

  • @TheOmegajuice Its all good dude, the video just wants to show how "Big Bang Theory" would work without all the laughter (no matter if fake or real). Not more, not less. I personaly prefer to watch shows without laughter, because I feel like jokes got a better effect on me this way. But I realy like "Big Bang Theory" anyway! Just like you (and please excuse my poor english)!

  • @TheOmegajuice Not all parts are filled with laugh tracks, albeit some, but not all. It's filmed in front of a live audience some days, and by themselves for others. It's a really typical sitcom staple...and I hate sitcom staples. You should check out Community instead, where the characters who seem like stereotypes on the outside have more dimensions and facets as you watch along, and to mention the jokes are funny that don't need a laugh track to tell you when to laugh.

  • @Yoh630

Why do people always insist that I watch something "instead" rather than "as well".

Btw I'm British and I don't think that Community is a show we get over here.

I'm fairly sure they only started to show Big Bang Theory on the terrestrial channels last year. I'm check it out if it even comes here though. Fortunately, British TV is not short of funny programming.

  • @TheOmegajuice Well if you said, I like the UK Office or Spaced or Breaking Bad etc..., then I would say 'as well', but you said BBT so I said 'instead'. But at least you share with me the same hatred for Two and a Half Men and How I Met Your Mother.

  • Six seasons and a movie?

  • Scrubs should have a laugh track, that would make it funny.

  • This clip made me sad. :(

  • Why Is he playing Super Mario on a PC?

  • @pspjerry using an emulator

  • The napoleon material was clever, does sheldon have a napoleon complex?

The pause sound made me smile.

"listen to yourself" again, funny to me.

    Second pause sound, hah.

Bear claws. Literally finding any excuse to justify his self-imposed position.

I'm just enabling you. Almost makes me feel sorry for the guy.

This show is actually quite a bit better without the laugh track, it gets in the way of the content of the humor and turns what might be interesting and somewhat funny into SO FAHNNY JOEK.

  • spooky

  • hahhahaha this show sucks, i cant believe people actually call this humor, if you wanna laugh check out community or seasons 2-5 of the office

  • Have you ever noticed how even though Sheldon sounds "smart" when he uses a bunch of ridiculously long words, when you understand him most of the things he says aren't that intellectual or funny?

  • I realize that if you did this with any sitcom they would all seem unfunny, so I don't get the point of doing this to single out a show that's won Emmy awards.

  • @SomaticPsycho But other sitcoms at least TRY and make jokes. This is just someone with aspergers saying big words and giving off the wrong image of a 'nerd'.

  • @CheezyBeenz123 It's an accurate image of a nerd.

  • @SomaticPsycho

sitcoms that are actually funny, like community, don't use laugh tracks.

  • ALL THESE HATERS! bbt is fucking legendary, nerdy humour with a hot girl, whats not to like?!?!?

  • @TheWorldOfJames it's not nerdy humour at all.

  • @MrDeamos ok let me rephrase it, nerdy humour that is understandable to the general public

  • @TheWorldOfJames Or you should watch a show that doesn't tell you when to laugh, that makes you think, and have to watch twice or three times to get all the jokes and appreciate it. Yes, I know, TV is a distraction and shouldn't make the viewer focus all their attention to it, TV is meant for drooling and very little thinking, but there are shows that go against that that you should check out: Arrested Development, Firefly, Community...I could go on and on.

  • @TheWorldOfJames The terrible characters, poor script, predictably of it etc etc

  • It isn't any funnier, but it's definitely less irritating. I call that a win.

  • A show titled after a cosmological theory in science is somehow dumber than a show titled after community college. Oh, and while I'm at it: save-community . com

  • this show sucks.

  • you only mute sound

  • Autism

  • I'll stick with Community.

  • Comment removed

  • I laughed at the comments, does that count?

  • This show is shit

  • Big bang theory is such a comedic waste of time. Without their overly annoying attempt to force the laughter out of us... there really is nothing to look forward to in this show.

  • Hi /tv/

  • I watch this and think FUCK OFF

  • they kept the awkward silence pauses during the laugh tracks so that really didn't help it

  • I can still hear the laughter. It's in my mind, I can't escape it.

  • This is like watching a bad soap opera.

  • This..is...terrible.

  • this just shows how shit the show is. they cue you to laugh...

  • @utukk I think it should be noted that there's a difference between shooting a show with no audience (in spite of claims to the contrary, this is where the laughter comes from on BBT) and muting at the first sign of laughter. No matter the quality of the writing, the latter will tend to result in people not laughing.

  • @CocoaNutCakery Just because a show is "filmed in front of a live studio audience" doesn't mean they don't add laughs via laugh track. It's clear that they do. You can hear laugh sequences repeat pretty frequently. It's not like they hid it.

  • @ilovereospeedwagon OR you could do some actual research into the matter rather than throwing out random accusations and find that TBBT tends to tone down audience laughter.

Just because you can't tell the difference between one instance of laughter and another doesn't mean that it's a laugh track. There's a reason why scientific analysis of things like sound isn't done by asking some random guy if he thinks that something he's hearing sounds like something he heard before.

  • Wow. I think I'll go open up a bottle of bourbon, turn the lights off and cry myself to sleep...

  • This scene wasn't that funny at first but still every show has it's dull points.

  • Comment removed

  • SOOOOOOOO AWWWWKWWAAARRDDD

  • Laugh tracks kill humor for me. Might as well have the TV fitted with a red light that goes on when you're supposed to laugh.

  • @maggosh

I agree, I can't watch anything with a laugh track at all, it drives me insane.

  • @Ilikemustard Well, I can make a few exceptions. M*A*S*H for one.

  • I actually enjoyed this, it was a bit serious.

  • This is actually depressing

  • @TruEviLuKki Very depressing, but interesting.

  • And they don't even get the references right.

  • Hey, for a second there, I thought the silence was a real audience recording!

  • #sixseasonsandamovie.

  • Wait, he's playing Super Mario on an N64 emulator? Wouldn't he be playing, MARIO 64!?! (suspenseful music plays)
